    One of the most important steps of successfully stopping a leak other than locating the point of water entry is prep work. Without prep work your attempt to repair the leak is doomed to fail. Cleaning the surface your applying the product to is key. Roughing up the area your repairing with a wire brush will help with the bonding process.
    Even tho a lot of these products profess to have a product that 1st time DIY'rs can use themselves or even seasoned DIY'rs can use is a easy goop and smear application. When doing a 3 course repair its important to work the material into the surface and check frequently to make sure the material is sticking.
    When applying the mesh it should be applied evenly and ensuring the width of the material has the cracked surface in the center. You should also extend the width of the material application to around 2" wider than the mesh and feathering the material. Apply the mesh so the crack is in the center of the mesh. Apply the final material application over the mesh and extend the width of the material another 1" past the previous 2" width of the first application.
    When applying the material over the mesh its important to not see the mesh when your finished.

    I've used the Henry Wet Patch on my roof 3 or 4 times in the 20+ years I've lived in my house. These patches seem to last 2 -5 years. And yes, you can apply the stuff in the rain when there is water running everywhere. Cleaning the work area doesn't doesn't seem to be very important as long as the goop is able to fill gaps and touch the stable sides around the leaks. I'm seeing that past patches do crack after a few years in the sun. Today I have a leak to fix. This time I got some of the yellow webbing to lay into the patch - as shown in this video. I expect it will help the repair last longer.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Год назад +3

      Yes the repair should last a bit longer without cracking as much when you use the yellow or black webbing tape. That's what that webbing tape is for. @@VideoJoeKnows Thanks for your comment. I had an easy cleanup. In addition to the tools and supplies necessary to do the job, I took up to the roof with me a container of paint thinner, paper towels, and a wastebasket-sized plastic bag for the refuse. And finally, I took off the nitrile gloves and tossed them in with the rest. Important: When done, be ready to take off your shoes and clean the ladders steps ASAP before walking anywhere. It's amazing how easily the black goo gets spread around.

      Well it's a patch material that stays mushy throughout the winter but the patch will still work. When it gets sunny outside the outer layer will skin up per se but because we are in winter the patch material will stay mushy but that doesn't mean it's not working. Also depending on how thick you applied it, it will harden up after time especially in the summer.

    Is it necessary to use the mesh? Some videos they just use the Henry buckets contents

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Год назад +1

      Well depending on how thick you are wanting to put a layer of roof patch will determine whether or not it will start cracking in mid summer when the roof patch material starts to dry out. If you get deep cracks then you have a chance for next time it rains for the rain to penetrate in through those cracks & starting your leak & wood dryrot potential damage. If you put the mesh in between two smaller layers like a sandwich, you then have less likelihood of your roof patch from cracking depending on how thick you will be applying the roof patch material. The webbing material doesn't cost that much & easy to apply & your patch will be that much stronger. Not sure why your roof is still leaking if you already put some patching material up there but watch the other videos I posted to learn to see what you might have did wrong. What type of roof patch did you use? Where is your roof actually leaking at? At a seam? At an inside corner? Around some flashing? Tell me a little more so I can attempt to assist you further...thanks! Watch those other videos. Just go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to roof patch or something like that & you should find them. I made 5 or 6 videos of this project...

      @@VideoJoeKnows I found out it was leaking because of punctured holes made from whomever decided to hammer up there. I put black tar. It worked for a year. Then started leaking again. Then I used flex seal white paint. It worked for one winter. Then leaked in the summer rain. I tried more paint. Henry acrylic. But I did it too late in the season. It probably didn't set well. Still leaking a bit. Some condensation. Idk what to do. I'm about to just throw a tarp over it. 🥲😅😬

      @@maileevyne5000 Sounds like you are on the right track for the leak. Not sure why it's still leaking though. If it's late in the season & you still want to seal then you could try the same thing I used which was the Henry's wet patch....it says that right on a gallon can & designed to be used even in the rain. Did you watch the rest of the videos for this project I was doing? Did you use the yellow or black webbing tape like I used? This webbing tape helps the patch become that much stronger. Did you clean off all the gunk on the roof patches to try to patch again? Did you rub the wet patch material into place around the edges when you installed it? Read on the can under the directions on how to properly put the wet patch material on. Take a pick off your roof area & go back down to The Home Depot & ask a salesperson what to use but I would try the Henry's wet patch along with the webbing tape. Let me know if you have more info you would like to tell me. You can do it. Don't give up!

    Im trying to understand why you didnt coat it white? Its common sense. Maybe your on a budget

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  7 месяцев назад

      Yes you can get white roof patch too but we opted for the black. It didn't really matter as it was just on a storage shed & no one will ever see it....except google!

    that tape won't do anything but contribute to tearing and cracking due to weathering.

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  2 года назад +1

      This tape was made for roof repairs & if you coat it all the way with a good top coat then it should stay fine & make the patch that much stronger. That has been my experience anyway. Thanks for your message. Something to think about for sure...

      I have more of this roof patch as I made a few videos for this project. If you want to see all of them & how I made the entire patch then go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to "roof" & you will find them there. Thanks!

      This stuff is so gooey already I do not think you have to stir it. It's designed to be put right on as far as I know. It's for patching a roof. It's called Henry's wet patch.

      Well that membrane was right there next to the roofing products & yes I'm just an average Joe showing other average Joes how to fix things. Yes I was not about to purchase a roof trowel that I was never going to use again for one roof patch! Yes you are right I am proud to say I am not a roofer but that didn't stop me from making this roof patch. See how many years ago this video was made? Guess what? I have not heard from anyone since I made this roof patch telling me that it's leaking again either, ahem!

      LMAO...I was thinking about all the money I was saving the homeowner when I was making this roof patch repair. How hard is it? The hardest part was getting up on the roof!

      LMAO.....I was patching this roof & it was a storage shed that was built out of concrete walls & this concrete ceiling. It was not what you say it was at all. This roof patch stuck just fine & this was maybe about ten years ago & still holding strong as far as I know....

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  7 месяцев назад

      Yes this was concrete roof with concrete walls in a little storage room by a little house on the prairie...nothing close to what the other viewer had said so not sure how he came to his conclusion....? Anyway this patch worked fine!

    A minute in and you dont say what you are actually using. You start talking about a rubber glove!!! It would help if I knew what you were using to patch the roof. I cant see the tin and have no idea of what it is your using. I'm not watching all the video incase u don't tell me.

    • @VideoJoeKnows

      LMAO...so sorry. I made 4 or 5 videos of this entire roof repair & I mentioned what I was using on a few videos but not every one of them & I guess now I should've! I was using Henry's wet patch it's called. You can get it in a 1 gallon can or 2 gallon I've seen & the can I used was a 3 gallon & I've even purchased it in a 5 gallon container but sooo heavy with the 5. To watch more of this entire project you can go to my main RUclips channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to patching a roof or something like that & you will find them....
