This is when radio was fun to listen to. Sweet Dick, Lohman and Barkley Hudson and Landry, and the other morning hosts at that time were so much better that what we have to day.
Dick Whittington was radio gold, and at the beginning of this interview he made what I thought was a very astute observation, that most radio people are extroverted introverts. As someone who was influenced by L & B in the early 70s, I too went into the radio business, got to be a DJ and did all sorts of radio jobs. But I have often described myself to other as being an extroverted introvert which is why I really embraced his comment. Man, those were the days in L.A. radio with all these great personalities.
Boy did this video bring back some old memories. I believe "Sweet Dick" worked for KFI during the Catalina Invasion only because Bruce Wayne, KFI in the sky led the attack air force. The bombs used were cotton balls. What a great event. Second, also at KFI was the dinner in the LA River. Sweet Dick was a great entertainer also. Thanks for the memories!
I was one of Dick's "regular" callers on a radio show he did (Rotten Vicious 9-year-old Kid). Dick took me on a tour of his station (different than L&B at the time) and then I was allowed to tour Lohman and Barkley's station with them, too. I see that this may have been from Dick's friendship with Al Lohman from what he says here. I later learned that many little boys were calling shows pretending to be me, but Dick's central premise was because I was the polar opposite to what he named me, so them trying to call in and be nasty to people didn't work at all.

One of the masters of personality radio, Sweet Dick discussing the great Lohman & Barkley morning team. This is gold.

I am now 92 and I used to listen to him every morning on my way to work. So entertaining and fun. He He made my day but not like Clint Eastwood.

Dick Whittington has a small part in the movie Duel. That's where I first knew him from
