John and Edgar were both albino, which is super rare, to have two in the same family. They were always playing together since childhood, only about 21 months apart.
Can't believe I almost forgot about John, but always loved Edgar's Frankenstein and both brothers were phenomenal, absolute legends!💓
One of the few guitar hero’s where words do not do justice to what we just listened to. Sit back close your eyes and let the music take you on a musical adventure!!!!!!!!!
In the 70’s I saw an album in a bargain bin. It was Roadwork, which was live Edgar and Johnny, Rick Derringer, Jerry La Croix, and others still one of my favourites. Live double. Both wonderful musicians.
The Roadwork album was one of my all time favorite Edgar Winter Albums. Has the absolute best version of Tobacco Road on it.
Without knowing too much about Johnny Winter and not being able to compare his guitar playing, I was really happy with this track. Sometimes a dull audience which is not clapping, shouting and dancing does something special: It is called "Listening". 🙂👂
You both are so entertaining. 😄👍
Agreed!!!
I heard of him years ago and that is where he stayed until today. Now of an age where I can appreciate just how good he was. You also mentioned Alvin Lee and I had never heard of him.BUT I am now half way through the Keep Rockin album and in my element. This is just another reason to love what the Thamesmen have introduced me to over time.
Listen to Ten Years After for Alvin Lee, I can't keep from Crying live
This brings back memories of my youth one Summer where my musical tastes changed from The Monkees and Bee Gees to Jimi Hendrix and Johnny Winter. I remember arguments about who was faster Alvin Lee or JW. Johnny was at his best when he was playing slide guitar. Unfortunately, he was prone to addiction and picking bad/dishonest management. I got to see him four times, the last time a few years before he passed, and while he was near 70, having lived a rough life on the road, needed help on stage almost exclusively performing while sitting down, BUT when he picked up that guitar he was still amazing. Yes, Frankenstein is an Edgar Winter song (you will be amazed) that had its origin when he was sitting in with Johnny.
Alvin won :)
His bro Edgar is playing in Ringo's Allstar band right on still to this very hour .. Check out his awesome album Johnny Winter/ And 1970 and there is a live JW And album also..
Great performance by one of the greatest guitar players of our time. Check out Tobacco Road with his brother a must see.
You can never go wrong with any of the Winter brothers! Johnny was the guitar god, Edgar the multi instrumentalist.
Look at the bassist. That's Tommy Shannon who much later played with Stevie Raye Vaughan and Double Trouble.
I was thinking I could hear some of the roots that Stevie Ray Vaughan would grow from, and the you (George) said it was Tommy Shannon on bass, so it made perfect sense.
I had to go back and look as I didn’t focus on the player, I just noted the Jazz Bass he was using.
I've always been a fan of Johnny Winter and he is part of the biggest mismatch concert that I've ever seen. In 1982 I saw him open up for a band called April Wine in Vancouver. April Wine were one of the biggest rock bands in Canada at the time, excluding Rush of course. Despite that, they were no match for Johnny Winter and the band he had with him, so they blew April Wine off the stage, which was no small feat considering they were in their prime. Now I realise you guys don't know who April Wine is, I'll have to remedy that at some point. Enjoyed this video. Frankenstein is by the Edgar Winter band, who is Johnny's brother.
more johnny winter please , try any thing at monteaux jazz festival Dont Take Advantage of me an original song
Edgar Winter Group - Frankenstein 1973 The Old Grey Whistle Test
‘Why are we here, what are we here for?’…. The Thamesmen continue to get to the big philosophical questions, provide an Arizona weather report and even throw in a musical interlude…..quality TV to start my day………….’Oh I left my dead dog down in Georgia……..🎼🎸🎸🎸’
A friend of mine from Detroit introduced me to the blues via Jonny Winters early album Progressives Blues Experiment, been a fan ever since.
Can see why
Tommy Shannon on bass went on to be in SRV'S Double Trouble, Uncle John Turner on drums wife killed him. Jim
for me I would do Tobacco Road as I liked the nashville Teens who had a hit with it
Going with Frankenstein Im guessing more people would be comfortable with it as the chance of hearing it would be greater
Watch his set at Woodstock.
Man, his performance at Woodstock is unbelievable. Johnny is all kinds of great.
Johnny Winter has been my favorite male artist for fifty years!
(Janis of course, is my favorite female artist!)
Lot of humour in Johnny's music, I think he liked lyrics that had a twist to them. When I was at highschool I accidently bought one of his brothers LPs for 10c. Only played it once (not all of it either) but Johnny's I nearly wore out. I also noticed the headstocks on a lot of his guitars were of similar profile to his hooter. Great guitarist and I think my fave track of his is Avocado Green - from 1969's About Blues
Hope to hear it
Johnny Winter Massy hall Toronto 1983
Check out the two brothers doing their version of Tobacco Road
@@rickfairman5640 Can't decide Rick, Tobacco Road, or introduce them to Edgar first with Frankenstein?
@@christhecurator I prefer Tobacco Road but can see doing Frankenstein as it had more airplay and would be more recognizable.
Either way for me both are great. Tobacco Road re by the Nashville Teen
Either one would be great for me. Frakestein would be more crowd friendly as its had more air play.
Good luck. Tell Alex still waiting for allman brothers whipping post live Filmore East. Have a great evening or should it be good morning.
For future reference check out Blackberry smoke with Joe Bonamassa!!!
Really like Blackberry Smoke
Cheers
OK
Johnny's version of Dylan's
'Hwy 61 Revisited' was Johnny's finest slide work in my opinion.
'Second Winter ' is the album and to confuse further Johnny released the song about the same time Dylan did. I Posted when soused.
Johnny's cover of Hwy 61 is worth a listen.
Best album was Second Winter. best song I love Everybody.
That’s my favorite on that album as well. Johnny said he can’t remember ever recording it
messing with the kid
If you think he's not the fastest, you need to hear him do Rollin' and Tumblin' or Mean Town Blues. This performance was about the sloppiest I've ever heard him, and one of his less renowned songs. Please check out more, I'm sure we can get a 9 or 9.5 out of him! 🤘😊👍
That’s his brother
I can't complain about the scoring, somewhere in the 7 to 8 range is appropriate in my book. Regarding the song, "Frankenstein," Alex, that is his brother Edgar's band (Edgar Winter Group); it is a terrific song!
Getting back to Johnny Winter, I thought that he definitely had that Texas blues-rock guitarist sound. Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top), and Stevie Ray Vaughan -- to name three -- all got a similar sound or tone out of their guitars, in my opinion. They didn't play the same or have the same amount of talent by any stretch, but the sound of the guitars was similar; wondering if you guys might agree with that?
Thanks for guidance. Yup they do have similar tones for sure. Is that just a factor of the style of music they play?
Moreso than normal?!? I am looking forward to this!
Not sure who is more horrible, Alex with his complete insensitivity to other people or George for laughing so hard at it. Or me for finding it just as funny.
Johnny or Edgar Winter, you can't go wrong listening to either. They are really good together too. I would go 9.3 because blues played with that kind of feeling and technique are ridiculous great. Your ratings are criminally low if you call yourselves blues fans. :) You did tell me to go listen to Alvin Lee though, so all is forgiven!
Unbelievable that George is not up on albinos. And that Alex is obsessed...
Yes. Not our finest moment
Frankenstien was Edgar Winter
And we learn this shortly
Can you please react to Highway 61 Revisited from Johnny Winter Captured Live
Will add to list!
@@TheThamesmen thank you, great slide guitar
Same frozen Danish public phenomenon can be seen in some live footage of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. Fantastic guitarist Johnny Winter was. Brother is a better singer:-)
Man, you guys invite trouble.
Excellent video though. I reckon that if you look up cognitive dissonance in the dictionary, there will be an image of, not just Johnny Winter and his band, but the audience as well. Great stuff.
Yes we are own worst enemies! Must have been something odd in the water that day
This video is distinguished as one with both a great song/performance filmed in front of the WORST audience ever! 🤔
Sloppy in the blues is the norm
Both Johnny and Edgar are both albino.
How old is that dude with the long hair? He's never heard of Johnny Winter? And his attempt at humor is pathetic.
Come on now. No need to be a prick. Chill. Not everyone is as lucky as you. Be nice and do better. I’m still giving you a heart.
