Buu absorbs a fighter but it’s technically not an elimination so he’s the last person left and he has to eliminate himself to technically eliminate the other guy. Most magical cliffhanger ever
An extended fight between Buu and Maji Kayo would have been really fun to watch and a great way to keep him out of the fray and from helping his team too much throughout the tournament.
I wish they wouldve kept him, especially if they were gonna disrespect Tien the way they did.

Greg Tom well Tien isn't totally human, he's an alien-human hybrid like Gohan. But Roshi's treatment compared to Tien's made me wanna vomit. Roshi was shitting bricks against Raditz, Tien gave his life against much stronger foe in Nappa, held Cell down, & stepped up against Buu. All while Roshi was secretly training. 😂
Jon Tien isn’t an alien Hybrid at all. Honestly, he’s been forgotten to the point where people don’t know his exact identity, which is why he should have been replaced by Buu. To know his identity, we need to know what he is based off of. Toriyama wrote him based off on Chinese culture, primarily on a Chinese Diety called Er Lang Shen, but idealistically, awakening the Wisdom Eye. This doesn’t mean that Tien is an alien. He is still human who had awakened the eye. Tien should have been replaced character-wise and power-wise. At least Roshi had character development and emotional moments. Plus Buu is completely perfect for utility based. They did Tien wrong throughout DBS and Toriyama just don’t know what to do with him. Like Tien was the strongest human and probably is, based on power level. He defeated Krillin and Roshi, and gave Goku a hard time as an antagonist. Plus he trained every day, so the fact that Krillin is called the most powerful human after a couple of breaks or that Roshi got a massive buff, makes Tien useless. Like his purpose felt wasted.

If Buu's simple-mindedness was the problem, they could have just let him temporarily absorb Piccolo before departing for the tournament and given the now vacant spot to Frieza.
Could Buu stick some of his body to every member so that when they get thrown off he could pull them back? Honestly the only thing more broken than Buu is Jiren.

I hate people are trying to justify this wasted potential of Buu not being involved just because they think he'd be "OP".
There's plenty of people stronger than him and they could've done a plot revolving around U7 using Buu as a utility fighter or Buu not being cooperative and thus causing a interesting problem for them or other teams targeting Buu because of his importance to U7 and U7 needing to protect.SEE?!? I probably put more thought into the story with these three ideas than the writers did.
This arc should be called "tournament of wasted potential".

While I agree with your creativity, Frieza involved in this arc was too much to pass up because of the spark he adds. Yeah though. The TOP without either would feel meaningless.
User Kev I'm not fond of frieza's role in the arc either. He mostly just stands around. I know he fought Cabba but besides that his role has been bleh. I was hoping more would come out of the Frost and Frieza side plot, but that didn't happen. I'm expecting more to come out of Frieza though later in this arc.

Honestly I hated how buu was shafted from this tournament, he's one of my favourite characters and was a massive missed opportunity.
Sidenote, could buu learn ultra instinct by watching goku use it?

Ive actually head somewhere that the zenkai boost, at this point, is pretty irrelevant. it doesnt give a big enough boost of power to really impact their total strength level, since they are on god strength now. Would have been helpful back in the day when their overall strength levels were low compared to the boost you get from the zenkai

Just imagine if Buu lasted long enough to see ultra instinct...Buu with ultra instinct would be insane.
Also Buu can spit people back out he absorbed, so couldn't he theoretically absorb a few fighters right away before anyone really realizes and gain huge boosts in power and have it be technically legal? And then at the end release them one by one to be knocked out of the ring?

I don't think Buu would be allowed to absorb but Buu has plenty of things going for him that would make him one of the best figthers for this tournament possible without the need to absorb.
First and foremost, Buu has the most proficient healing factor we've seen in all of DBZ-Super. He even beats Cell's regenaration in terms of speed and efficiency, and that dude came back from a single Cell! Buu is effectively immune to injury or any kind, he doesn't have real blood, bones, skin or anything that could break or fracture. That alone puts him in a great position as he won't get physically worn down from the fighting. More then that, Buu in all forms is able to take huge beatings, even powerful ki attacks like Vegeta's sacrifice and be completely back to top form right away. As far as I can tell you can't 'knock out' Buu... I mean I'm not even sure he has a brain to be knocked out lol.
Second is Buu's stamina. We've seen from 17 how far limitless Ki can get you. Buu has near infinite stamina but not quite. As if perfect limitless healing wasn't already a great ability, Buu has shown throughout all his forms that he never fatigues or tires out in terms of stamina during a battle- he just sleeps AFTER a battle for an extended period of time. This doesn't mean Buu can never get exhausted- but if he can it would take alot more to exhaust something that literally has no muscles/organs or any of that other fun stuff that holds everyone else back slightly (It also makes Hit pretty useless against him!)
Buu's healing ability (On others). Buu can act as a white mage at any point- he has been shown to heal people with no cost to himself- in pretty much no time at all. That would mean all our fighters can fight in peak condition for the ENTIRE tournament. Thats pretty crazy.
Buu's intelligence. He's low intelligence and lack of strategy displayed the majority of the time make him incredibly hard to read and counter attack, he's always been pretty bizarre, from turning people to candy, or ripping parts of his body off to use like a flail. This also makes the few moments where Buu does utilise strategy pretty unpredictable and gives him an element of surprise.
Buu's strength. Buu is undeniably one of the strongest beings in the entire universe, naturally without trying or training. More so then even Frieza was- like thousands of times more so then Frieza. Where Frieza was naturally at a level on par with super Saiyan, Buu was naturally above Super Saiyan 2 but below Super Saiyan 3. In the fight against Kid Buu, Buu held his own better then even Vegeta could. When Buu slimmed-down in preparation for the tournement we saw how quickly and vastly his ability to improve was when he actually tried- possibly even surpassing base super saiyan god... God ki is no joke. Sure all in all Buu's power has been a bit of a joke in Super while everyone else has been getting crazy buffs, but we know from DBZ that Buu was above Vegeta and below Goku by the end of Z, which meant he must have been pretty fucking strong.
Lastly, Buu's abilities. Body manipulation. How you going to knock a dude off the stage, when he can rip a part of himself off and hide it or throw it back onto the arena and regenerate fully from it? Turning people into shit... How do you combat being turned to candy if you don't expect it to happen? Perfect Imitation, Buu even learned how to use the Kamehameha after seeing Goku use it once, but instead of a straight up copy- his Kamehameha was superior variation to the original... This is one of those dudes, who can quickly learn and mimic techniques as well as improve upon them. Immunity- as we saw from Basil's fight, Buu don't take no trickery shit from people trying to poison him among other things. Many fighters, like Hit, Basil etc seem to rely on techniques that would just be useless against Buu. A fight against Buu is a fight of pure power.
TL:DR; Buu is the shit, and would have been fantastic to have in the tournament, to the point he'd be one of our aces, alongside Frieza (God Ki), Vegeta (God Ki), 17 & 18 (Unlimited Ki) and Goku (Plot Armor). But the creators at Super seem to really dislike Buu and have found ways to write him out of nearly everything or get swept aside in seconds by Gods like Beerus... Buu was swept aside by Beerus, Buu wasn't able to fight against Frieza- despite Frieza even referencing his knowledge of Buu, too stupid to fight Universe 6/7 tournament, he wasn't brought to fight Goku Black, Got a single fight in the exibition match against a foe who barely stood a chance and lead Buu to think they were playing a game- hardly a real fight, and then was asleep for the current tournament. I love Buu, I'd love to see him as a core fighter in the team now that fighters like Yamcha and Choatzu are never going to be relevant again. Theres space for Buu. But Super didn't want Buu to step up as anything more then a side gag in a possibly homosexual relationship with Satan...
My beef with Buu is he doesn't add anything to Super. They find ways to conveniently write him off when shit actually goes down. He fell asleep when Frieza returned and for the TOP arc. Like why even keep him alive if you weren't gonna do anything with him.
Buu absorbing people in the tournament would NOT count as killing, cause he could spit them out when it was over.
I would found so interesting if frieza , cell and buu would be in the tournament of power , the interaction they could have , there would be a lot of good fight , maybe teaming up each other **^**

if anyone here plays any competitive online you know how important a healer on your team is and how bad you can get your ass kicked without one. boo is a healer. and one who packs a punch as well. of course they would have to keep this under the radar. as soon as everyone realized he was a healer, boo would be instantly targeted by everyone. but having boo would give team 7 a huge advantage. saiyans get zenkai boosts and boo heals. imagine the possibilities xD
Buu has always been my favourite character as soon as I saw him. He's just insane. Although he isn't one of the strongest anymore cos SSB and gold frieza etc. buu is still OP as fuck he's so damn powerful in so many different ways he's practically invincible. Such an insane character
I agree that Buu would have been too dumb to understand, but I think they could have found a way to write him in; what if they made him absorb someone more intelligent so he could gain that attribution kind of like he gained Piccolo wisdom when he absorbed him. Would have loved to have seen Buu attempt to absorb Toppo, Dyspo or Jiren during the tournament.

The writers know what they're doing. We haven't even seen the end of the tournament yet. Buu would've been a HUGE help in the tournament, but he would've been dealt with by Jiren or Toppo eventually.. Buu is too naive, he wouldn't have grasped the seriousness of what would be standing in front of him and underestimate the pride troopers.
The team could have told him that Hercule and everyone else would die. They wouldn't be lying.

I would have liked to see Boo being in the tournament. All the fighters from universe 7 are pretty serious and dedicated to fight for their universe and Boo could be the comic relief for the group and still be a strong character. Also a character like Boo could have been a very good way of thinning out the lines in the beginning of the tournament. At the beginning there were a lot of fighters in the tournament that were just there and having Boo do his candybeam thing could have eliminated all the weak characters, so they could have skipped the pointless fights and just went on to the big fights. That could also have been a way to write him out of the tournament - he forgets about the rule of not killing people, transforms everybody who can't stand the power into candy and eats them and then Xeno DQs him and makes him release them all, but decides that they've still lost and are also out.
'The strongest Fighters from universe 7'... you mean the Gods were too lazy to search for fighters and 8 of 10 of our fighters can be found at any given time in Bulma's backyard... the last 2 being an old foe we brought back from the dead and the twin brother of one of bulmas backyardians. We searched the entire universe long and hard, about half a kilometre to exact- and only people we knew well.
Buu awakening after the TOP makes sense because his help could be needed in case of a deceitfulness from the higher ups.
Very strange that they knocked him out of both tournaments after promising we'd see some Buu stuff. I get that the writers probably had the idea to get frieza in the tournament at the last minute and had to knock somebody out, but they shouldn't have done it with a character that hasn't really done anything for the entire series, and that's stronger than 90% of the other characters. It's especially stupid that they DQed him from the first tournament since they didn't even replace him with anybody.
I personally could have done without Tien, he doesn't really even do anything and he's got the least personality out of all the characters that were in the tournament.
Buu would have been dope in the tournament. Him healing Goku and Vegeta for zen kais could have helped the plot make more sense. It would have been better than them constantly randomly regaining their power.

Buu could leave small pieces of himself all over the ring so he could never truly be knocked out he would just focus his energy on that spot and regenerate there. So In a tournament setting he’s a monster.
Something i want to add (before watching the video): Since Buu was able to get as strong as he did in those 2 hours, with basically just blowing up normal earth rocks, Buu would get so much stronger in the 48 minutes of the Tournament of Power that he could potentially get on or above goku and vegeta's level by the end.
My reasoning:
Like i said, Buu had been doing very basic training, of just blowing up rocks that Mr. Satan was able to hurl into the air for that span of time. (we aren't given any indication that he was doing any other forms of training, especially not anything super intense for him, so i am just gonna assume for the sake of low-balling to show he could be stronger that he was doing that level of training but somewhat faster, and they are just slowing down now because it's been 2 hours of the same thing.) this shows that in the span of 2.5 times the length of the tournament of power, Buu was able to go from at weakest large solar system buster (granted that would be practically spamming that level in the buu saga but low-balling again) to be able to knock goku out of the boundaries they decided on in the matter of moments. this was base goku and he was fairly caught off guard by Buu's sudden strength so i will give goku the benefit of the doubt and say he just wasn't expecting it. Either way Buu was still strong enough to do this to someone who in the BEGINNING of the series was roughly .5 universe level. (it was 3 hits to destroy a macrocosm, which is the size of 3 universes, take away half the power from beerus' side of the hit and thats .5 universe level.) if you add in all the boosts he got from the Resurrection F arc, the entire Zamasu fight, training with Whis etc, Goku is most likely hundreds of times stronger, since power rises somewhat exponentially in dragon ball.
Now apply that to the tournament of power for Buu. He got to roughly base goku level (base absorbed SSG, there's' no point arguing against that.) in 2.5 times the length of the tournament of power with casual training. put him under the intense level of strength used for the tournament, anger boosts, and a lot of warmup enemies and you basically get the M.V.P. if jiren didn't immediately wipe Buu out from Buu attacking him first or something stupid like that, and instead Buu started with the weaker characters, and preferably knocked out Ribrianne and the rest of universe 2 quicker, maybe turned them into candy and threw them off the edge. of the platform?
Buu also does have the talent of learning every character's abilities after basically seeing it once, also making him incredibly valuable, especially if he somehow learned the time-skip from Hit, instead of an unsatisfying attempt to stop Jiren. Not only that but as long as there is some part of Buu still alive, he can fully regenerate, to the point in which even Wolverine would be impressed. (for a point of reference, he came back entirely from a single drop of blood once.) so basically he (while not unlimited in stamina like the androids) would have to have a lot taken out of him to be tired and weakened.
Would have been cool if they could have had like 15 fighters. Majin Buu, Yamcha, Goten, Trunks, and someone else could have joined in. Maybe Yajarobie , Chiaotzu, or Jaco in that last slot. I guess it would have been too many new characters to design for the other universes and would have made the tournament even longer though. Although they could have done something clever like had Goku/Vegeta, Jiren, Hit, and Kale knock out a ton of nameless fighters from the get-go. Imagine how much more of a threat Kale would have seemed like if she knocked off like 10 fighters all at once when she went berserk.
Krillin and Tien could have been saved from the cheap-shots they suffered from. Chiaotzu/Yajarobi or Yamcha could have been the ones to get eliminated first by Frost.

yea kid buu vs Mr Buu had the latter not regenerating fast enough the same way Super Buu's regeneration was stalling once gotenks did enough damage. Vegeta's comment that Buu's can kill each other was likely due to the fact they can keep fighting at 100% due to regenerating.
If buu was on the team it would have been extremely hard to take him down unless they somehow managed to knock him off the ring. If anything all he had to do was absorb most of the contenders then jump off the ring as long as their was one of his teammates left in the ring.
Why isn't there other Buu's from other universes? (One who did NOT fall asleep before the Tournament of Power...)
Buu is so fucking awesome I wouldn't mind if they wrote a story where something went wrong and he became evil again. Imagine him absorbing an Angel? Or not even, even if he just learns kaioken and how to utilize god ki that would be OP.

Or Just turn people into candy and throw them off, that wouldn't work for more powerful characters than Vegito in DBZ, so Kefla, Toppo and Jiren would probably be the only ones that would have enough power in candy form to still take Buu out, but it would be very hard for them to do without killing him.

Uub has been mentioned in super. I really want buu and Uub to merge and remake the entire character. I think since in a way they share a soul it would be the most perfect union. He would all of uubs intelligence and experiences. I know how op that would be but what an incredible character. That being said I think with the existence of mastered ultra instinct there would still be balance.
I’ve heard that Buu fights another Buu they are effective against eachother. Also they do have infinite stamina but when they fight eachother it’s weakened.
He would get pissed off by Ribrianne and eliminate earlier. Frost would have had to have been legitimately taken down, Cabba would still be in the tournament and have a rematch with Vegeta.

Should have been Buu and Cell instead of Roshi and Gohan; basically Goku's team would be all of his (powerful) former adversaries. Could have ran with the theme that U7 is strong because it makes allies out of enemies, and perhaps function as a redemption arc. Plus we'd get to see Cell and Freeza banter, Buu irritate Vegeta, and a Tien/Piccolo team-up so Tien can actually DO something in Super.
Your comment on Buu Vs Kid Buu and running out of power is that you missed the fact Good Buu had been absorbed when Evil Buu ate him and when Kid Buu spat him out from his pod Good Buu had his energy drained in the time when Super Buu was around. I'd imagine Good Buu to be similar to 17 & 18 and have endless energy. Keep in mind when Super Buu was around he was tapping into into Good Buu's energy and power to be strong. So when the fight with Kid Buu came Good Buu was depleted and had the unfair disadavantge to fight on par.

Buu has limitations. EG when Buuhan fought vegito, he took so much damage he stopped recovering. When buu fought beerus, he was almost knocked out in one hit. When he fought kid buu, he was damaged beyond repair. This would appear to suggest he has limitations against strong hits from opponents. However, its probably plot related more than anything else.
Regarding turning people into candy and killing them... wasn't there someone he turned into a candy but who kept his power and consciousness and controlled the candy as if it was a body?

I think the reason they wrote out Buu is because he could easily just heal everyone on the team. and keep them at full power. Goku couldve been restored to full after fighting jiren and beat kefla without ultra instinct.

If Buu went around absorbing one fighter after another and getting steadily stronger. If he could avoid Jiren and Toppo long enough, he'd eventually get strong enough to take them. Jiren is crazy powerful, but if Buu absorbed everyone except Jiren and U7 (and maybe those U3 robots might not be absorbable), he might be able to take him. Be hard to animate because he changes appearance with every absorb. but that is up to them.

If Dende were in the T.O.P. he could have healed Goku after the fight with Jiren. That would have been a possible zenkai boost for Goku.

Looking back at this video, with the TOP almost over...the only opponents who would have stood a chance against Buu would have been Kefla, Toppo and Jiren.
Buu is a genius fighter
Basically the problem is that Buu is way too broken for the ToP. Not in a sense of strength, but as a support mechanism. He'd be the number 1 support member for the team and he could go to town on the weaker Universes too. The entirety of Universe 7s strategy would revolve around Buu. Guarding Buu from the major players was the best bet for maximum number of survivors. He could heal the warriors who took damage to a point of complete health. People Krillan, Tien and Roshi took down would be a cakewalk for Buu. Android 17 was out for like 10 minutes in anime time, after his self destruction and if Buu were in,he could've been healed to perfect condition. Same for before the self destruction, Buu could've used the time 17 bought to heal both Vegeta and Goku back to health. Their zenkai boosts alone would've been an added advantage.
If Buu stood in for someone like Krillan and Frieza was still on the roster, that would've meant 4 extremely powerful fighters and a healer/middle to high tier fighter would've been available to take on Jiren at the end.
But hey,Buu is way too broken. Even if he were in the ToP, writers would've had to write him out for killing somebody because he adds too much of a wiggle to the system.
I bet Buu would be in danger of falling or if he actually falls, he would leave a chunk of himself in the ring and regenerate.
