My dream job is to be an embalmer! Wish I went to Mortuary School right out of high school instead of going to a 4 year University for a BS in English and $48k worth of debt! I’m living in South Carolina now. Enrolled in Fayetteville Tech’s Funeral Services program. Trying to get my foot in the door at a funeral home. Reached out to a local funeral home, no response. A little discouraged.
you got this homie, you'll get a response 💪
It's never too late to to accomplish your dream! I've always wanted to be a mortician and I'm 43 year old and I'm just getting started but I'm determined and I will accomplish my goal!
I was a mortician, hang in there little sister.
Hi Melody! Keep pushing! Don't give up. How are things progressing since you commented last year?
So loving the encouragement!
I’m a RN and am 51 years old. Have been thinking about an opportunity in the funeral industry after I retire from nursing. Thank you for all of these available opportunities. Have done post Morten care in the hospital X 29 years so am used to dealing with human remains and families going through rough times in this process. Have always wondered about the process from your end of the business.

You mentioned that the removal tech has to deal with all different types of people, and people deal with death differently, some people get aggressive and angry (maybe not your exact words, but the point is the same). I've never worked in a funeral home, but it reminded me of when I worked in medical billing/customer service and at hospital reception desks. I've dealt with angry, aggressive people because their loved one has died. But don't get me wrong - I totally understand, and I'm very compassionate to them because they are walking in some pretty bad shoes.
I can definitely see the correlation.
Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year

Great info!
Glad it was helpful!
I cannot thank you enough for this information. I do not necessarily want to prepare the deceased, but I want to have a role in funeral service. Mortuary transport was my first choice, but there's no real options in my city. There is a funeral assistant position available though...I think I just might apply. I have the temperament for this industry. I love people and I want to take care of people in the hardest time of their life after losing someone, and I am extremely compassionate, caring, understanding, and can handle these situations with tact. Thank you for this
Thank you!

I woul really appreciate it.
Thank you so much for this 🙏 I think more "beginner" content is really important right now, given the folks coming out the woodwork with a death care calling. I appreciate you and your insights!!! I'm looking forward to to book & movie club! Happy New Year ✨✌️
Hi Holly
Hiya, just sharing a comforting scripture with you and everyone:
Rev 21:4, 5 "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes,+ and death will be no more,+ neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.+ The former things have passed away.”
5 And the One seated on the throne+ said: “Look! I am making all things new.”+ Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful* and true.
The future is bright, only the Almighty God Jehovah can truly satisfy all our needs.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks so much

@@TheGraveWoman have you thought of getting or making one mortuary in Tanzania? It's could really pay because very few are here . Let me know joash
I'm new to this RUclips thing & came upon your informative channel. Over 40 years ago I've worked for a FH & worked my way up through the ranks. This was long before internet & cell phones. I've learned from my employer/owner that he was looking for applicants who were reliable, had no arrest records, & their driving records practically flawless. He would not hire applicants as drivers who were under 25 yrs. old-auto insurance rates are higher. Larger FH's had bigger fleets of rolling stock then & drivers were required to maintain all coaches, vans, pool cars, & limos. Drivers would also help assist with the dressing & casketing of bodies if there were no services or 1st calls. I'm not sure if things are the same today. I left funeral service & became an autopsy technician. It's good to hear about women embalmers in prep rooms today. Then, women were only allowed to answer phones, perform clerical duties, make arrangements, apply make-up, & drive family cars. Many women went to mortuary college just to get turned away as applicants in those days.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing
Have a very happy, fulfilling new year! You bring so much care to people when they need it. Many blessings to you.
Thank you! You too!
Thank you for the video. Can you do a vid where on how you can get a job at a funeral home under the age of 18?.
Hi Tyanna. That should be pretty simple. Just go and volunteer. Thanks so much for watching and sharing
Thanks for the info. I'm 55 years old but have had an interest in helping in the funeral industry. I live in a small rural community so I would probably have to go outside of my area to find something. Our local funeral home is been a long time family run business but I do know them and their family! I guess I will have to give this some thought! Happy New Year to you and your family!❤️❤️
Thank you so much for watching and sharing Judy!
Thanks so much for this video it really gave me important information can you tell me if your here in Atlanta GA I would love to come where you are to learn about the transportation side or can you give me more information please please please and thanks so much in advance ☺️
Thank you so much. I am back and forth between SC and Atlanta. I don't currently offer in person shadowing at this time BUT I do offer virtual consultants. You can email me at thegravewoman@ gmail.com to discuss further.
Just as an FYI, In the state of Maine, there is no such position as a pre need specialist. All pre-needs must be handled by licensed funeral directors. So be sure to check the requirements for each state.
Great piece of advice. Thanks so much for contributing. Thank you so much for watching. More content like this to come. Make sure you are subscribed, like and please share with anyone you think can benefit from this and other videos on the channel.
Number 5 sounds great. I just want to help somehow without getting paid.
Thanks so much for watching. How is your search going?
Strange how I came across your RUclips channel on the day before I am supposed to start as a removal technician for a local funeral home here in my county. I am very nervous and am unsure that I wanna touch a dead body. The funeral home wants me to come in for the day (tomorrow) to "see if it is sometime I wanna do" from 8-4 and told me I am gonna get "hands on". Does this sound like they are going to have me lifting the decedent's? Or does this mean that I am going to be helping move say a prepped body to the viewing area and other odd jobs? Do you always wear gloves when you touch a dead body, even just moving the person through the funeral home? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I honestly wanna work in the industry, I just would rather door greet or assist the funeral directors or something to that sort. But they don't have anything available, except the transfer associate or removal technician. I also have to do something called a "caliper" which is supposed to tell them more about me and who I am. This is supposed to be done by me on the computer. It is said to take 1.5 - 2 hours.

@@TheGraveWoman Hi, yes. December will be 1 year. It is a rewarding job, and yes, I did touch the decedent's on the first day. The gentleman who trained me kinda gave me the lowdown, when we hopped into the transport van, after the office lady printed off the paperwork, he set the paperwork up in the visor, turned the radio down and said "let me fill you in on what you've come to do" and I felt anxiety setting in and even at one point got that "fight or flight" rush, where I was gonna jump out at a red light and run. I instead decided to just see what it was about. We arrived at the hospital for my very first pickup. We were escorted by security to the morgue, where there were people in dough like buckets and in the HRP already. The security officer said "what's the name?" And my heart was racing real heavily. And then BOOM, he pulled her out and goes "here you go" and then the guy training me said "grab that end, lift and slide her over on to the cot." I did and to myself was like: "WOW, that was it!? I got worked up over that!?" I WANT MORE! 🤣🤣 so, we brought her back to the funeral home and got her set up and then I was like "can we do another one?" And I ended up having a good first day. We did one at the hospital, another from the hospice house and the last one was a police call, where the man was driven up to the M.E.'s office.
What’s the best funeral home software to use for your computer or iPads like Apps??
Software for what specifically love?

Do they care about visible tattoos ?
Honestly some places do but don't let that discourage you. Dedicate your mind to learning all that you can and mastering the art of service and caring for those in need. Let that be the fuel for paving your own path or the bridge to connect you to your tribe. Thank you so much for watching. More content like this to come. How do you handle violently emotional grievers?
To be honest Djon I don't. If I feel as if someone is going to be an intentional threat to themselves, to me, or the public I will involve law enforcement or have them escorted out of the funeral home. If someone is overcome with emotion and they are aggressive that is a different story.
Anger is a very strong emotion and is apart of grieving. When that is the case (based on my intuitive e evaluation of the situation) I involve the family in hopes that they will be able to comfort and gain some control of the distressed.
This is a very good question that I will explore more in a video response. It is a very sensitive response.
@@TheGraveWoman thank you so much for answering.
