Glad you found it helpful. I only "kind of" knew there were there, depending on the car. It was pretty obvious there was a problem when my car wouldn't start without it!
Wonderful video! No need to apologize, this is exactly what I was looking for! I wish more people would realize this is the sort of stuff we're looking for when trying to search this kind of stuff up, not the obvious stuff that the instructions on the new fob already tell you.
Thanks for the kind words. There are a lot of things out there that explain the obvious, and that's quite a waste of time. But maybe if something puzzles me, and isn't answered in the instructions, it might puzzle others, so I like to make a little video like this.
EXCELLENT video, short and complete for swapping the tiny black box in a Honda key fob. Mine is an 06 Accord, and I saw the black piece in the old fob, and the empty receptacle in the new one, but didn't know yet if it was functional or just filler plastic. Trying to start the car, everything came on, but it had no spark when turning the engine over. Immediately, that told me this little piece was a comm. device. Doing a simple search on RUclips, I found your video, and it was exactly what I needed confirmation on, regarding how to swap it in. I wish it were not so securely glued or cast into the old one. Seeing you cut it out was confirmation on how to get-er-done. PS: you were VERY respectful of viewer time. Great little video. THANKS!😃
Don't do what I did...I used my key as a tool/screwdriver or something. Not meant to handle the strain. I think that's why my original key was wiggling.
I know that my car will not start without that transponder...the key will turn, but no "startup" sound...just silence and a little yellow blinking key on the dash. Your car works with a key that has no transponder? What kind of car?
My 2012 pilot also doesn’t have that piece that sticks out but it also will not start when I change the case. It has to be in the old case but I have no idea where. There is no part of the case that is that thickness where I would think an RFID chip would be🤷🏻♀️
I figured it out, the chip is the Honda logo on the back of the old case, pry it off with an exacto knife and place it inside the new case. It should work now.
If you buy a new key fob with a new chip, it will need to be programmed to match the car. Much easier if you have one other factory key fob so they can program it to match. Shop around. You can pay around $300 at a dealer or as low as $50 from an independent locksmith.
not always. I just encountered this moving the remote module from my '06 pilot to a new shell and it would not start without the old transponder moved over.
If that was the case with my car, I would not have done it. I got the new key set up without moving the chip and it wouldn't start. But no harm in trying the new key without moving it...the worst that can happen is you realize that the car in question needs it moved.
Very helpful! Didnt know this existed until I couldnt start my car after changing fobs

Me too! I couldn't figure out why my key wouldn't work!

Thanks, I wanted to see someone do this before I gave it a shot. This and the damn radio code have made me just crazy with this old car!
Sometimes crazy is good, but in this case, I'm glad to have prevented some.

Great little video. THANKS!😃
My goal is to get you on your way as soon as possible, hehe! I'm glad you found it helpful.
It's just the video I am looking for. Thanks for making it so I could follow you.
I like to do videos where I'm a learner too. The pro's might think I'm a blockhead, but regular people can sometimes identify.
Thank you for the only vid I could find on the subject
Yeah, I looked for a video when I started repairing mine, and couldn't find one. So I made this one.
@@sengsational- ya done good! Choice of title made it pop to the first few search results, too.
Good going, FRIEND!
and there you go! Very good video!
Thanks for the complement
This is super helpful. Thank you!
It worked like a hot damn ! I followed your instructions to the T. Many thx again
Glad you found it helpful!
Very good info to remember. I have a 2011 CRV, so I may need to do this sometime in the future. 😅
Don't do what I did...I used my key as a tool/screwdriver or something. Not meant to handle the strain. I think that's why my original key was wiggling.
@sengsationa1 that's something I learned years back, made the same mistake :) don't ever use a key as a screwdriver or a pry bar.
My key doesn’t have that in it. I can’t find the transponder
I know that my car will not start without that transponder...the key will turn, but no "startup" sound...just silence and a little yellow blinking key on the dash. Your car works with a key that has no transponder? What kind of car?

Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful!
Glad it helped you out :)
Nice work!
Thanks!
If I lose the chip and get a new chip from a new fob will it work or do I need to engrave the new fob?
I think there's a way to add a new transponder, but I don't know the specifics.

🗝🗝 Great video, thanks.
Thanks for the complement :)
Very helpful - thank you!!
I'm glad it was of use to you.
The chip is in the remote module and this isn’t required on all Honda fobs.

Omg why doesn’t it tell us to do this?! Now I gotta go dumpster diving for my old fob when I get home 😢
Any luck?
@ yea I found it. Gona try and do this tomorrow. Fingers crossed lol
Glad you found your old FOB!! I don't know why the instructions don't say.
@@sengsational thank you! It worked! Pretty easy to do. The hardest part was getting the transponder out!
Bullshit I have no lil box
No little box?!? Hmm. I wonder where they hid your transponder.
To fine tune the fit I CAREFULLY used my bench grinder.
Yeah, you don't want to grind away the electronic "goodie" in the plastic case!
@@sengsational I was very careful... just used it to make things square and grind down sharp edges, etc.
