    Not sure how anyone can go from saying there is no standard level for activity... to saying too much or obsessive (what ever that might mean) is bad. In other words, the term "excessive" means nothing and everything at the same time. It seems, there are as many definitions of what defines an excessive activity as there are people.

      Hi Joe, thanks for your comment. I understand your point, some things to consider Prof Fontana is talking to a general audience in general concepts so it is difficult to be specific about the amount of exercise. It will be different for different people. The other thing is that there can be the belief that more exercise is always better, and I think he was making the point that this is not necessarily true. Being fit and being healthy are not the same thing.

      @@ModernHealthspan Exactly. I think what is being described Dr. Luigi is the difference between being fit and healthy vs. only being fit. I have met some of the most fit people on the planet who suffer from chronic inflammation and repetitive use injury. That group I considered the most fit but least healthy. And, the reason this sort of condition exists is because a "fit-exclusive" person has not valued the effectiveness of recovery and/or over emphasizes training. In that regard, the idea of exercise is defined not by exercise but by recovery. And, that explains why many of the conditions that Dr. Luigi describe exist among athletes who have compulsive behavior issues ... not simply over exercise. In essence, the idea of "excessive" are a result of poor recovery...NOT simply excessive exercise. As a result, the idea of average takes on more than one meaning in the context of - level/volume of activity as well as method.

      Do not necessarily agree. He states exercise is important, but not the end all.

    I’m sorry, but it’s still came off very vague. I know it’s probably hard for him to give any definitive parameters, but just saying exercise is important, maybe a couple of times a week a week for hit, and the effects it has doesn’t really give an idea for a modern person what they should be doing on a daily basis. He said that the people in the blue zone walked for hours a day but we know that our lifestyle can’t accommodate that, so what do we aim for? how often to do resistance exercise? I’m sure there aren’t hard and fast answers, but there could be more direction for something like that, I think.
