The thing people miss here is that this isn’t an upbeat song. I mean it obviously is, but it’s a frenetic upbeat. Because she is desperate not to be the focus because she isn’t “specIal”. And this song tells us everything about her relation to the rest of the family. It’s a perfect first song
It gets that way, that frenetic energy, mostly towards the end where it gets increasingly obvious she is avoiding the question…
A fun way to introduce everyone. "Oh. Mirabel didn't get one." It gets worse after that, but you'll have to watch it to see how.

I love the little kids desperate faces urging to know about the amazing madrigals, like they are when they start asking about superheros to adults they know are familiar to the topic. This movie turned into my new comfort movie :))
My favorite part is when Mirabel says “Golden Child.” Just that one tiny line gives me goosebumps lol guess it’s the way she says it? 🤷♀️
Those folks who throw her the accordian are so mean. They're adults, they know she doesn't have a gift.

Meirabel is so gifted though. She is a great dancer, singer and sews. Her clothes, her bag and even a stuffed toy for her little cousin.

Thanks for reacting to this song, it's my favorite. As a colombian, I really appreciate it. For those who doesn't know it, this song is a really good mix of some of the most joyful rithms we have in Colombian: Cumbia (our national music), Vallenato (tradicional music from the Caribbean cost of Colombia), Mapalé (music created by Africans when they were brought here as slaves), and the fact that Mirabel sings it is a tribute the Bullerengue singers (Bullerengue would be the other rithm). Haven't seen the movie, but clearly she at least has that 'start a musical number' power that so many other Disney characters have that we no longer find it strange...
If that turns out to be her actual power, and she can use it as she has previously - to delve into people's minds, produce exposition, teleport around the place, temporarily stop time, etc - that would actually be a pretty powerful gift to have.
That's exactly what I thought when I first watched the movie!! The next song, Waiting on a Miracle, pretty much cemented the theory to me.

I’m with you, this is maybe my favorite song from the movie. Idk. The melody is just so good, so catchy and always in my head, and I just REALLY love the way her voice sounds in it.
This is a masterpiece! Great for families! I love the history lesson about the bond and unity of family and respect for abuela!
Fashion Alert: You may have to do some frame freezes to catch some of these, but there are some interesting details to the family's outfits. The families are color coded: Tia Pepa's family are in yellows and oranges, while Julieta's family are in blues and purples. Julieta has a mortar and pestel embroidered on her apron which also has deep pockets filled with herbs and spices; Pepa wears ear rings styled after the sun; Isabela's dresses have flowers embroidered on them, Mirabel has a butterfly embroidered on her shoulder, and her dress has symbols reflecting her entire family. Of particular note are Mirabel's glasses: The frames are the same color that Bruno's eyes go when he's drawing on his Majiks. Seems both have the ability to see more than the average person: Bruno sees the future, while Mirabel sees into peoples' hearts and their emotional needs.

I'm from a small town in Colombia and I can guarantee you that the place, people, music and food is exacly like looks in the movie. However, the three head dog. I think that makes reference to the corruption, abudineadors politicians (who steal) and extre right party. As soon as, the country change goverment in August. All of you guys can go there and see with your own eyes, how paradise is Colombia.

Man, I’d really love to hear you listen to some songs from Crazy Ex Girlfriend. The song snippet you played in the beginning actually kind of made me think of some of their songwriting (Rachel Bloom is great, and the late Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne!) If you do check it out, definitely do a couple or a handful for variety. The styles definitely vary. Some are pastiches of certain genres/artists/songs too (those are always so smart haha).
