I see some criticism that this tutorial was unrehearsed but it can actually be helpful to see someone do things in real time and overcome obstacles on the fly. This is a more accurate representation of what the project will be like for someone with limited or no experience.
Agree with Al. I have like no experience and watching another person receive coaching and refine performance, helped me to better understand the steps. It also allows more comfort with making errors and coming back on track.
I 1000% agree!!!! I watched the entire thing enraptured by it’s unrehearsed feel. I’m so sick of everything being so cookie cutter perfect that it was so nice to see this woman with her messy hair don’t care attitude and her sweet man helping her along. 10/10 would recommend. I also would like to commend her for being so thorough with the drywall hooks, I honestly was stumped on what to do with them despite having all my tools including my impact drill. I’m still a newbie. Thanks for really going through everything, OP! You’re a rockstar and your videos are super helpful! Criticism is few and far.
@@traceyhoover My sentiments exactly! I was watching another DIY tutorial the other day, (not on this channel, something/someone elsewhere completely unrelated), and the OP of that other vid. Legit said “I tried it by (herself) off camera in case (she) made a mistake “ and I thought: that’s the WHOLE POINT! I, too, am so tired of 100% perfect everything -> not real; not realistic. Who can keep up with the constant weight of being /striving to be “perfect”? Not me, (anymore), nor do I want to either. I’m grateful I gave up trying to chase that monstrosity of a nightmare, lol Bun up, plowing straight through the drywall in one swift pull of the drill whilst making the “pilot hole” 😅(that’s me too!) rod end falling off… I love it! It’s called being human; now this, I can identify!
Great video. I like that it's not done by an 'expert'. I can't tell you how many videos I've looked at that don't talk about how to sink the anchors. And this one not only walks through it but shows what 'mistakes' I probably would've made also unless I had someone to show me. Your partner's hand on your back is so cute. A supportive spouse, literally. Lol. Thanks again!
I bought a drill over the weekend and trying to get this drill bit set open which has not been easy. While I was at that store, I also purchased 16 pairs of heavy duty command strips to assist. 🙄 AND NOW I SEE YOU HAVE THE EXACT SAME CURTAIN RODS THAT I HAVE WITH THIS BIG BEAUTIFUL CRYSTAL LOOKING BALL ON THE ENDS. 😮 Thank you for sharing. I wish the hack was a little easier. I already have my locations marked in every room on the walls where curtains are going to be hung. I use the knocking test and also use the stud finder to check behind myself. I wish my kids father cared more about wanting to help, especially since I purchased a drill. I love the elegance of a high curtain and I believe a little more muscle would help with drilling. Hopefully it won't be as hard as I'm making it sound once I start. And that's a cool template idea. Again, thanks for sharing.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!. first time I've seen the process done start to finish with mistakes and corrections so now I feel comfortable doing it my self. Yea. And whoever was your helper didn't even get snarky and impatient, which was an even bigger treat!
Thank u! Thank u! Hit the nail on the head, figuratively and literally! The template was what did it for me! I struggled all morning, and once I did the template I was done in 30 mins! Awesome!
This was a very high quality and cute video and I’m genuinely glad it exists out here on the inter-webs for folks exactly like myself seeking sincere help with darn curtains!
Thank you for this easy to follow and real life tutorial. You gave me confidence to actually try and I’ve never done anything like this before. I did it!
Thank you so much for this video!!! Omg I searched high & low for help after purchasing brackets with crappy instructions. You saved my life omg I can't thank you enough!!! This step by step information was everything for someone like me who had no clue what to do lol. Thanks. God bless.
Thank you so much for the rawness of the video. I could see myself having the same issues you did. Thank you for all the tips that will make my project go smother.🙌
I’m trying to hang blackout curtains and just noticed that one of my finials was chipped. Great to know I can easily swop it out. Very sad that as I was screwing and unscrewing the finials to adjust the curtains that it never dawned on me that this may be a possibility😜
Great video but one question. Don't the brackets take two screws yet you used one? There is another place for a 2nd screw under the top screw to keep it more secure.
I got them up but it was difficult for me especially the drilling part ughhhh! Like you, I went back n forth between my drill and trying to screw it im the wall. I used a hammer to get the anchors in easier on both sides but the 3rd piece/middle support would not go flush in the wall, so annoying
I love the template idea….but I wonder about separating the bracket to screw it in more easily. I have little ceiling room and won’t be able to screw the 2 bits together again (from the top)…?
Thanks so much for this video! The cardboard tip worked great as I had a 11 foot curtain rod to install The only issue I’m having is that it covers three windows and I’m trying to use two curtain panels to cover three windows. Since I need a middle bracket, the bracket gets in the way of the curtains. Wondering if my only option is to use two curtain panels on each side to avoid going across the middle rod bracket. Wanting to use the blackout curtains so a little space in the middle of the third window will let light in. Any thoughts?
so typically if you have to install a middle bracket it's b/c you have a large window and it's usually recommended that you put two panels on either side of the middle bracket. it makes it look fuller (you're not stretching out 1 panel for an entire window) and if you're using blackouts, it'll actually make it blackout. additionally, just a tip....extending the curtain and curtain rod PAST the window and covering a bit of the wall will help keep the light out too :) i always have 3-4 of the pockets on the outer rod.
Those anchors are self piloting anchors. You just drill them in with a #2 Philips drill bit. You don't even need a pilot hole if you use a stud finder and know what's behind the wall. You can just drill straight into the wall with them. I don't recommend these for curtains though as they receive pulling force. I'd recommend a winged wall anchor that holds the drywall after you drill the screw in and uses compression. Also these brackets should have two screws in them, one top one bottom.
Do not take rod mount apart if close to ceiling. Loosen and swing to the side or else the screw will not go back in easily. Probably a good idea to not take it apart at all, simply loosen and swing to the side.
While I sorta get what you are explaining..you should have practiced before uploading because you lost a lot of people with a bit of confusing instructions. But once you get past the confusion it should be easy to follow.
Hey can you keep it down? I'm trying to hear the music. Kidding. You should never add annoying background music to videos like this. You don't need it, and it's an instructional video. Finial is pronounced FIN-e-al.
because most DIY's need explanation? that's great if you can do something like this in 5 minutes and not have to watch it, but the whole point of DIY videos is to explain WHY something is done a certain way and HOW it's done...step by step. congrats for being smarter than everyone else; you don't have to watch this lol
lol b/c i claim i'm a professional here? i'm just your average homeowner sharing how i do a common task to help others out...and you know what? at the end of it all, professional or not, the curtain rods were hung! ✌🏼

Exactly, rehearsed has a problem of sometimes skipping over critical information.

It's so nice to see someone who is at exactly my level of expertise do a nice simple home improvement. Very confidence-building. Thank you!
You gave me hope that I can learn to put up my own curtains - thank you for letting us learn along with you!

I understood everything this lady was saying. Great tutorial. Thank you .

yay! so glad i could help :)
Thank, thank, thank you! First time I have ever hung a curtain rod - this was super helpful. I'm a strong, independent woman and I don't need a man!
Wow... that was worth it. Thx for sharing about those screw anchors.
They came out great! Thanks for the tips and very sweet how your hubby holds you to keep you from falling/helping you apply pressure👏😊
Thank you so much for the tutorial! You mentioned a little bit of everything!
Hung all the curtains in my home using this technique. Thank you so much!!!

This is better than watching someone do it fast.
This was so helpful . Thank you!
Thank you! This has been a lifesaver.
This is sooo good and hubbies tips throughout a Godsend bc I would have yanked the screwdriver right out!
Brilliant,thank you.

Ihow do you know what size drill bit to use with the anchors?
Do they come iff easily without pulling iff the paint

When you use the drill you put a mark of the size of the screw to know how deep the hole is going to be, it will be easier.
Where do you put that mark ? On the drill bit ?
Thanks Julie!
Where to buy these?
Thanks for the tip about the basic rods and swappable finials. Such value.
you're welcome!
Thank you for sharing the tips. I especially appreciate watching the coaching you received to manage and use the drill.
Thank you Julie. Really helpful. :)
How much are they?

You already have brackets there. What if you are unsrtalling brackets for the first time? How do you figure out where to put the brackets exactly?
Thanks for this video.it is really helpful.

Nice job very clear ideas 💡
you only put up one screw for the bracket, and I think it needs two.
Drill bit size?
You don't have to drill two "mirror image" holes on the cardboard. Simply flip your template for the other side of the window.
Do not take rod mount apart if close to ceiling. Loosen and swing to the side or else the screw will not go back in easily. Probably a good idea to not take it apart at all, simply loosen and swing to the side.
Im drilling and hitting metal or steel
Where are people just getting scrap pieces of cardboard?
Gosh that rod looks so hard to do!!

Sorry, this is so confusing.
I said the same thing.
@@nadinewalker9375 for me too. I don’t understand did she drill the hole 6 inches from the window or how many inches🤷🏽♀️
I like the template but it’s not realistic. My ceiling isn’t 100% perfect/level with the knock down.
NoNo Brackets are better for windows with blinds installed already...check them out, complete life saver and less trouble hanging the brackets
It would’ve been even better if you showed using the template on both sides. Other then only showing one side.
👏👏👏👍👍👍

as I read through the comments, I noticed the vast majority of the obnoxious ones came from men. How come I'm not surprised?
agree! thank you!
This was painful
thanks for taking the time to let me know this
I got half way through this video and could not finish.....too slow. sorry
Very slo expanation.
Your curtain rods should have been installed much closer to the ceiling than they are. Just an opinion.
appreciate your opinion but this is my house and the way i like it so i encourage you to take your opinion and apply it to your own home :)
17 minutes!!!! FYI a DIY that’s 17 mins is an instant thumbs down. How’d you manage to make a 5 min how-to into a 17 min wtf?
