The estate doesn't need the money. Prince is no longer with us. But the Internet will not let his artistry die or be forgotten. He's a musical genius, we can't allow his work to be ruined

Always!! It keeps his music alive!! He deserves it! Awesome musician! I always appreciate hearing covers of his music. It means they have good taste! 😊

If he wouldn’t have allowed it during his lifetime, the handlers of his legacy shouldn’t do it either. Releasing an album in concert with Target is a far cry from allowing them to use one of his songs in a commercial unrelated to a product that he is selling.

It's just weird hearing his songs in commercials because he would have never.

As long as Princes music is used properly (not altered musically or lyrically) it's all good to me. Any chance to expose potential new fans to his music has to be taken. Imagine if Prince didn't go for working on the Batman soundtrack back in '89 ? ...You or I may well have never "got on the boat"

Yay. I see a lot of people saying that this isn’t what Prince wanted but they have to factor in that he promoted his album with Target. I will say it is a bit cringe the way they used the song in that context but it’s good for the brand and Estate. I don’t think they were selling out with this, it’s a bit refreshing hearing his music out there.

It may be cringey in idea, but I like this song, and I kind of like hearing it when I m watching TV.

I heard the most hilarious story about 10 years ago from one of the advertising execs at Target about the whole Lotusflow3r deal. Prince had promised to do a private performance for them at their headquarters here in Minneapolis as a thank you for being the sole distributor of that 3 CD set and supporting independent artists. They were told Prince was running late and would be there shortly. They waited all day for him to show up, and he never did. 🤣 We all know (or we should all know, if we've been paying attention) that Prince occasionally allowed his music to be used in commercials when the terms suited him, so I don't see why the estate shouldn't use it as a valid income stream now as well. Plus, it's a great way to get his music to new audiences.

Prince always did the unexpected 😆💜 Really good points also about Prince seeking collaborations such as Target and Verizon when the deal was something that suited him.

@@NightchildReviewsPrinceChannel The one constant about Prince was that he was always changing. 😂💜 That’s why it bugs me when people talk about “what Prince would have wanted” because what Prince wanted usually changed on a daily basis. Obviously, his morals and core beliefs remained pretty consistent, but how that presented itself often changed.

If there's Prince umberellas and Wellington boots, I don't mind too much if Prince's music is used in an advert. I guess I'd like the ad not to be used to promote anything in congruent with the positivity I associate with the artist. Otherwise, I don't have a strong opinion. I would like to see more Prince music/super deluxe/live shows released, and if the estate needs to do this, I don't thnk it will ultimately be detrimental to Prince's legacy.

I totally agree that I'd never want Prince's music to be used for something inappropriate and I love that you used the word 'positivity' because that is truly at the very heart of how I feel about Prince's music. Ultimately the music is the key and I'm gonna have to start saving for the next SDE 😆

Hell no to adverts. 👎 (What would Prince do?)
    Yes to Nightchild 💜
If the estate needs money, make the discography more widely available through films, TV, video game soundtracks etc., but most importantly release the music. Even the merely 'Prince curious' dove into Welcome 2 America, and many albums, like 20ten, need global (re)release, in addition to live performances and other Vault material. The estate could be smarter.

Really good point, there is so much in the vaults but also even Officially released Albums such as 20Ten. It's very easy to forget for us in the UK that this wasn't a worldwide release and that should have been corrected a long time ago. Prince's lives performances are virtually endless and there is so much scope for releasing new Official projects containing them. Really great comment 💜

I don’t like it. It’s one thing to sell his music in the store like back in the day but I’m not happy for them to use the song for commercialization. I don’t think he would have agreed to this at all.

I think that is an important point, when Prince partnered with Target it was to promote an Album rather than the store as such.

N A Y. Can't imagine Prince, ever downgrading his music for Target's use. Prince's family sold him out. Shame.

Isn't this also an extension of the problem of using an artist's work without paying attention to copyrighting, some of these instances fall under stealing from an artist.

    • @NightchildReviewsPrinceChannel
      @NightchildReviewsPrinceChannel  2 месяца назад

Copyright issues and performances are certainly a very tricky area, whether it be using a track at Political rallies or even uploading to RUclips.
