I'm honestly shocked it took this long for another Warcraft RTS to come out. This game and that other you reviewed (ill have to go back and dig to find the name; it was voxel based). The artstyle allows for so much flexibility while keeping it thematic and atmospheric. The chunky clay European look was perfect even 30 years ago when WC3 did it and it hasn't really aged a day. Heck even fortnight uses the style. Then put GOOD animations (animations and gameplay Trump graphics everytime, handsdown, no discussion, final answer, checkmate) and well timed audio with tons of little details. That's what made WC3 so amazing. I wish I could have seen the look on someones face the first time when they clicked on a sheep too many times and it exploded lol. Plus continually clicking on units as they say more and more irritated responses. The fact they never made a World of Starcraft should be treason at worst, sedition at best. As soon as someone comes out with a Warhammer 40k MMO my point will be proven. Not everything requires the holy trinity of tank/dps/heal + boss with over the top mechanics to make it work. Space Marine 2 proved you can make a boss with a horde of enemies. If you ever wanted to play a Terran fighting the Zerg Space Marines 2 has you covered. Even Starcraft had that style. Yes it was more refined but man it just works, Unlike Tod Howard.
i found the towers next to useless because of the amount of units you can get on them the best way i found to defend was build a town center and upgrading it as you can put way more units on them and they have a large area plus putting cannons on them is great then i turtled till i have 10 swordmen 10 riders and 20 archers then cleaned the map
This is likely deliberate placement on the Warcraft/Age of Empires axis, very much on the 'warcraft' side; but I would like to see the camera come out just a bit further. Building placement feels a little tight. That said, it seems very promising that what most noticeably rubs me the wrong way is a matter of taste rather than a systemic problem or something where it's definitely broken and we're just hoping that it'll get sorted our before release.

In fact one of the best sky colors I have seen in my entire life were moons. I remember seeing a blue moon many years ago. In more recent events I saw a very very big white moon, a greenish moon, a cheddar-gold half moon over a hill (national park but it's a giant hilly field of grass), and a striking blood moon (very saturated, almost like a drawing).
Regardless of if the AI cheats. Splat would still have lost. Saturating the resource gathering is a must. Especially since there doesnt seem to by any supply limit. Splat just didnt have enough workers. edit: tried the game. There is an AI assistant in this game that will just handle the economy and base building and production while you can focus on controlling the units. It is quite cool. Shame Splat didnt showcase that feature.
For a Demo, they sure have done well, but there's still a long way to go before they can release that game. - There's literally no lighting effects other than daylight - where's the roaring open camp fires or even lights in buildings illuminating the camp at night? NO torches or street lighting? makes nighttime a very bad experience. - The unit list, there needs to be more than just a handful of them, with individual tech trees for each one. - Defensive palisades which upgrade into stone walls will need to be added. Again, it's only a demo, and they have put out an incredible demo, but the game is nowhere near where it needs to be for a full release. (2026 maybe)

This looks amazing. WarCraft II and III are two of my favorite games ever, back when Blizzard didn’t suck. If they port this to iPad I’ll never get anything done.
Also, i too love the resurgence of rts games. Stormgate was a fat turd, but tempest rising is awesome, love the survival rts genre like age of darkness, glory to goo, diplomacy is not an option, and I've seen a few hybrid fps rts games coming up as well
Warcraft 4 would probably not be great with current Blizzard, but at least we'd get another batch of Blizzard cinematics. Pretty sure 90% of their budget goes to the cinematics now
Damn, graphically it looks fantastic, animations for just about anything, pretty neat. However, I strongly dislike that individual units have potions. Makes them tankier and more micro intensive for no good reason. Also, max 20 units per control group is a big nono for me. It was annoying 20 years ago to have these super limited group sizes, and it still is now.
Couldn't agree more on limiting the number of units selected at once. The potions however I kinda like but it's personal preference. This map looked like there were a few narrow choke points and potions over just massing more troops adds a strategic option for you to take. Also it could be that the other factions don't have access to potions but have different mechanics to balance it out, so it helps ad some variation to the sides.
Entertaining game by many factors - looking forward to see it released and try it out! Until then I hope the visual "bloom" can be reduced via options cause those time day shifts produce to much saturation that almost makes the visual less sharp, not a fan of that - hope there is a graphical option to address that.
Personally, I feel like WoW killed the Warcraft series. They retconned and broke their canon so hard trying to force the faction system that it undid everything W3 set up and I genuinely couldn't play it. Ultimately I think the issue, though, isn't who the devs/publishers are but the genre. It's just too archaic. The squad based and settlement style games that grew from the genre iterated on it over and over; some things sticking and others not. But the old school RTS approaches like C&C/Starcraft just didn't move the needle enough and any RTS wanting to grow today needs to change up the formula in some fashion. Just "being inspired by C&C" isn't enough for many people nowadays.
Honestly I'm surprised that Dawn of War hasn't really spawned any iterations on its approach to RTSes. Maybe everyone is still dedicated to the really vibrant modding scene for that game or something idk.
@@jessl1934 Yeah, Company of Heroes and Iron Harvest did similar approaches but that's really not many. The squad control style wasn't really my thing but felt like it could have been good for competitive games / esports.
Starcraft 2 works fine today, and the basics there haven't changed all that much. Unit handling and mission design is key for a game like that, no need to reinvent the wheel.

The Warcraft II remaster that isn't called Warcraft II remaster. Excited for this.
Thanks for showing us this game! I will indeed play this game!
"Off to work" This looks amazing! Thanks Splat! 😎👍
The enemy ai is fucking scary
3:12 caught
the game has automated basebuilding that can be assigned to the AI. Be sure to turn it on if you play like Splatter here and you can focus on combat
I love being surprised by a game and this hit the spot!
4 games I discovered in just one day because of channels like this one who give them deserved attention:
Fallen Aces
Cruel
Barony
The Souring
I’m trying to figure out which one to get first.
Grabbing the demo now! Always down for someone taking a crack at the WC3 formula.
Has great warcraft 1 vibes! Thanks for finding out about this gsme.
Reminds me of Northgard.
Thats an impressive ai opponent.
This looks nice! Will need to keep an eye on this one for sure :)
I've never been an RTS person but that AI actually looks awesome to play in a scenario.
This game gonna be BIG
itll be huge theyll never be a game as big is this game let me tell you , of all the games ive played this is probably one of the best, an american game . - Trump
man this looks pretty cool...thanks for letting us know got it on wishlist and now i'm gonna try it out right now!!!
Splatter likes to do things the hard way
he just sucks at all games lol love him tho
🔥🔥🔥
Would be nice to put RTS in the video title
Amazing production quality. Will definately take a closer look at this game
This looks great so thanks for putting it on my radar! 👍
This looks so good, can't wait !
This looks amazing. WarCraft II and III are two of my favorite games ever, back when Blizzard didn’t suck. If they port this to iPad I’ll never get anything done.
Stoked for it to be released. Wish it were out now :)
Also, i too love the resurgence of rts games. Stormgate was a fat turd, but tempest rising is awesome, love the survival rts genre like age of darkness, glory to goo, diplomacy is not an option, and I've seen a few hybrid fps rts games coming up as well
looks pretty good!
I like WASD for camera movement too
"I like to cheat on my wife" caught me WAAAAY off guard brother 😂
That intro, aw blizzard what have you done? lol
Entertaining game by many factors - looking forward to see it released and try it out! Until then I hope the visual "bloom" can be reduced via options cause those time day shifts produce to much saturation that almost makes the visual less sharp, not a fan of that - hope there is a graphical option to address that.
Played the demo & am impressed! Does anyone know if developers plan to eventually release a Single player campaign story mode for this in the future?
Instantly realises that food will be a problem and then promptly sends workers to mine gold and cut wood 😂
12:22 I did not expect a Les Miserables reference
Looks like great WC2 atm. Will there be heroes and a campaign? If so, I am sold
Definitely going to check out this demo
I feel you man. Good stuff meow
This game reminds me of the original Warcraft game with a variety of new features added...and the AI looks just brutal.
This looks very promising for a demo.
Keeping an eye on this one.
I'm excited for the game. Just tried the demo but can't figure out how to rotate the camera view and key remapping is going to be a requirement.
