I finally found someone who has the sense to start the engine while the timing belt cover is off to see how it runs! I always do this when changing a timing belt.
I would recommend getting the tool that locks the flywheel against turning completely have to remove starter motor to lock it but then you can put a lot more torque on the crank bolt .
Thank you for this comment. I just noticed that the flywheel was not locked and also why it makes sense to do so. Thank you for posting the video sir. Helps.
So I’m guessing you had a problem when you were done? At 15:11 the white mark on the crank pulley should be at the 2:45 mark. As you see the mark is past 3:00 o’clock position. I’m sure it set a p0016 and ran poorly.
My crank has turned before the locking tool was in to lock it so it is out of time to the cams. Is it just a case of positioning the crank again with the pin then time the cams with the sprocket lockong tool?
Ya make sure the crank mark are lined up and lock it with a pin after For The cams make sure to turn it back wards and line up the marks. If those lined up put the cam locking tools after your set
i can only get 13 teeth between gears cannot get belt to stretch to 12 teeth? any suggestions? after timing belt replacement engine would idle between 500 and 1000 rpm kept seeing post about being one tooth off on timing?
Take out the cam timing tool and Put a socket on one of the camshaft bolt pulley and turn a little tad to catch one tooth on that belt so that your in 12 tooth total double check your timing marks after . Hope this help
Could you please clarify if the bottom belt sprocket would spin on the crankshaft? I know there crankshaft is not keyed but what about that belt sprocket.
Yes this engine dont have a keyway on a crankshaft sprocket. Just make sure the timing marks at the cams are spot on and the belt sprocket will line up automatically
Is it possible to [replace the crankshaft harmoinc balancer pulley] with the engine in situ? How did you do it here without the torque multiplier tool eg Laser 7317 ?
my engine was replaced....i think they may have put a bigger engine (1.5 vs 1.6) are you able to tell me how i can definitively identify the type of engine in my 14 fusion SE?
find the engine number. Lookup ways to locate it on youtube or maybe your mechanic can help you. With the engine part number you should be able to get the engine specs.
That would be almost impossible or at least very difficult to do. The 1.6L has a cast iron exhaust manifold, the 1.5L has no separate exhaust manifold, it has an aluminum integrated exhaust outlet to the turbo.
Thanks. The pin to hold the crankshaft in places goes in the same hole as the pin to find tap dead center? So fond tdc, insert the locking pin there and then secure tool up top to hold the cams in place? Then you can take off the pulley? Did you use that belt trick to remove the pulley too or just the pin?
You need a special length crank pin..Then two plastic cheese block wedges...One on each side of the crank.... Do not let that crank fall back down... You can feel the flat spot on the crank or use a mirror to look in that hole. Before you put the bolt in..It must be tight or it will fall down..
Yes that pin lock the crankshaft for tdc and its not gonna move. TOOL on the cams secure the cam sprocket to lock it after that your ready to remove the timing belt
Why all the other videos I see they remove the valve cover and lock the back of the cams and take the intake off and lock the fly wheel?? Is that all really necessary
Locking the cams and sprockets making your job easy especially Locking the crank aswell. If u don't lock them down and you remove that old timing belt the cams and crank well move trust me ive done it on hondas. Make sure get the piston one to TDC and cylinder #1 all the valves are close.
@@jfGarage4k so like on your video as long as I lock the front of the cams and put in the tdc peg, we should be good, I’m about to do one at work and I just want to know if it absolutely necessary to take the intake off and valve cover to totally lock everything?

Bro, I am using Ford ecosport 2018, 3 cylinder, and EcoSport 2013-2017, 1.5L Dragon XZ. (Gulf Specs) Can you tell the part number of the timing belt please? Or can you share the compatible belt and part number?
Same here as muy opel karl has a timing chain and it turned out the said part skipped a tooth at 38k miles and now i have a £1100 bill from the main dealer to fix. I'm just gonna get it fixed and say bye bye to the car
It's a tool you get in a timing tool kit. You find just before TDC and then you remove a bolt and replace it with the crank pin usually the black pin in the kit. Then turn engine clockwise till it hits the pin. Also remove starter and put a flywheel locking device on it too. For a 1.6 ecoboost fiesta st 2015. Also use new crank bolt as it stretches. 74 ft lbs then 90 degrees then wait 5 seconds then 15 more degrees.

This makes the job significantly more difficult and adds cost, is the dowel and cam locks + belt in place not sufficient?
And the most important thing is locking the flywheel is more precise timing position , on psa 2.0 tdci you don't even have to remove the starter motor
Hi bro. Nice work. What year is this Ecoboost engine?
Nice
Hello, nice video! It's possible you share the manual service please? I would like to know the correct torks wich I should apply.

i wouldnt risk the cost of a motor by not locking down the crank and cams with the locking tools. wrong timing and bad things happen.
I got this code after a headgasket job
His pulley moved, and his started up fine. I did the same exact thing, and my car was running rough and throwing codes. P0011 and p0016
Thanks for this vedio.❤️
Good job 👍👍👍👍
Did you remove the crankshaft pulley aligment tool before hand thigten (using the power tool) ? Cant notice in the video cause the camera angle.
How did you get it to run smooth after those 2 rough starts??

Check your maintenance schedule or if you see a coolant drops coming from timing cover or block replace all this timing components.
The service interval is 150,000 miles.
Or 9 years whichever comes first.
Replace timing belt tensioner and water pump as well.
