      I love him now, but back in 2001-2005 he had very mediocre charisma. People don't realize the INSANE pressure this guy must have had on him. Think about it: He was part of a reality show to determine whether he gets an opportunity to fulfill his dream of performing for WWE, in a time when reality tv was not only at its genesis, but was quickly launching unknown people into stardom, many of whom cannot handle the pressure of such quick celebrity. He actually wins the competition, gets a wwe contract, and in a short time is performing on weekly tv learning on the go and even had an iconic moment eliminating the undertaker from the royal rumble and the guy wasn't even 30 yet.
    And all these years later after being let go from his dream job he has no bitterness, no anger in his heart, he's not seeking attention, in fact quite the opposite the guy doesn't even have social media and rarely does interviews.
    Tremendous character 👏👏

    Maven had the potential the issue was he was pigeon holed into being the guy who won the reality show they didn’t give the a guy gimmick til like 04-05 where they tried something a lil different. This is a common trend with all tough enough winners from the early seasons and one of the few reasons most didn’t succeed in a big way.

    • @voiddcxi2630
      @voiddcxi2630 3 года назад

      It kind of makes sense though. At least for million dollar tough enough and the 2015 version, the people voted for the winners. Why would you take a guy or girl who the people voted for and turn them heel?

    • @joejames1794
      @joejames1794 3 года назад +7

      @@voiddcxi2630 when did I say turn them heel? He wasn’t given a character at all he was just a white meat babyface that won reality TV show. They should’ve worked on his character off TV. I don’t know if a lot of the audience was watching tough enough at the time and following the contestants as the show went on. Maybe that’s why they debuted so many of them like that but it only hurt them in the long run.

      @@joejames1794 you're spot on, and when they finally gave him a charecter they made him a whiney heel. I remember a ppv I think it was New Years Revolution he cut a promo, and the Puerto Rican crowd were calling him "pato". WWE then booked him to lose to Shelton Benjamin in embarassing fashion.

    • @JMFSpike
      @JMFSpike 3 года назад +3

      @My names Jeff They really rushed him out to TV and pushed him hard WAY before he was ready. In hindsight, it really seems like WWE was actually *trying* to kill any chance he might have had at a career in pro wrestling. It's the perfect example of what *not* to do with new talent. Guys need between 5-10 years in developmental and/or working indies to develop both their wrestling and promo skills, otherwise they are damn near guaranteed to fail. If Maven would have gotten the proper amount of experience and training, who knows what would have happened. While I think he most likely wouldn't have been a top guy (just a guess), he may have very well turned out to be a solid mid-carder with a very good career.

CVV by humanizing interviews with performers of the past and present but also we get a glimpse of them as people which is so nicely done, he is a credit to his craft and Solomonster for his tireless work with his Wednesday and Sunday shows.

    This is probably one of my favorite interviews you’ve done. I was(am) a huge Maven fan, was rooting for my fellow Virginian all the way through Tough Enough and for him to win it, amazing! Those 5 years flew by and I always thought he was gone too soon from WWE. One question I would have asked him is: why didn’t he go back to teaching? Was that just not an option anymore? Great interview Chris, thanks for bringing Maven to us! 20 years, wow!
