- The 4000 series is a powerful Dremel tool with a good variable speed control but it is really long and heavy and noisy and starts to be unwieldy for precision work and seems it is more for use with the flex shaft accessories and the like where the 3000 series is still like a traditional Dremel.
My father had a very old version of the Dremel Moto-Tool. I found a picture and confirmed it was the Model 2. I am a big user of the Dremel Tools. Thanks for the video.
As it happens, I've just stripped down and rebuilt a couple of Dremels, a 3000 and 3001. The 3001 is significantly easier to work on. With the 3000, you have to cut through those stickers over the case seams, there are separate vent panels around the brushes which need aligning when the casing is reassembled, and there are tabs on the casing which also have to be aligned. None of these issues exist with the 3001. I also have a much older Dremel (model 395) from the 1990s which is still going strong after replacing the brushes and the chuck, and yes, it's a lot smaller and less unwieldy then the newer models. I also think you're right about people having unrealistic expectations about the power of the larger Dremels - in preparing for the rebuilds I just did, I watched a load of RUclips videos on Dremel repair, and I saw several from people who'd blown the thermofuse in their Dremel after doing things like grinding on steel car lug nuts for three hours - jobs that clearly call for a heavier duty grinder.
Mr Maximus, I waited a full day and there has not been one 'Better the Dremel you know than the Dremel you don't know' comment. 😸😸😹😹
It would be interesting to see a teardown on this 4000 and find out what is causing vibration. Thanks, Cat Max..!
For delicate small work the pneumatic pencil grinders are perfect (especially engraving)
Great video. I've been looking for a 1/4" electric die grinder and just can't find one in a small size. I have the Dremel, but everything is 1/8" thanks Catus
I bought a Wen die grinder (the actual term for this tool) for $24.00, and it works fine.
