Then afterwards Sonic fought Ultimate Emerl when he was about to blow earth up. The chaos boost "limitation" is a gameplay mechanic. He can probably use it indefinately, seeing as he can use it repeatedly in gameplay. If Shadow was using full power, his rings would have been off.
