Replacing a fancy diet or exercise with an accountability group 7.) Replacing one thing you buy with a mutual swap group. 8.) thank you! I'm starting to get disappointed with the financial diet, it feels like they are only talking about upper-middle-class problems. I'm already doing pretty much all of these (can't volunteer, I'm disabled), and some I don't even do so I don't need a swap.
I disagree on trading the fitness classes to once per month. I think this only works for those who are extremely self-disciplined. I enjoy weekly sessions, because my trainer holds me accountable and it keeps me consistent. I think it’s well-worth the money.
Finances really are so personal! What works for one person, may not work for another. Making sure you that you see the value in your financial decisions is what is most important! :)
If you're looking to volunteer but can't leave your house, consider signing up for apps like Be My Eyes, where you communicate with visually impaired folks and offer help via their camera. For example they might want you to confirm if an outfit matches, or read a card they were sent, or help them figure out which box is which in a store.
Love the video! Except one thing, it doesn't always make sense to use the free shipping supplies from USPS. They are only for priority mail, not for first class, and priority is waaay more expensive. So if you have something that's 13oz or less, it would actually be cheaper to buy a box or padded mailer (or better yet, reuse an old one!) and ship first class. Furthermore, the free shipping supplies from USPS are for flat rate, which means the weight of the package doesn't matter, which is great for super heavy items but ends up being more expensive for lighter items. Also I agree with what you said about supporting the USPS! Even if you use your own shipping supplies you should definitely still use usps to ship them :)
The flat rate boxes are also good for shipping things long distances (which I wish I had known sooner when sending Christmas presents to friends in California from the East Coast). You make lots of good points!!
My gym offers a small group training option, it is a cross between a class and personal trainer. Almost the same cost as the personal trainer but I can go 6x per week rather than 1x weekly, but I have to sign up for each class which helps with the whole accountability thing for me. They also help you focus on realistic health and nutrition goals. I love my gym.
Hello Chelsea, behaviour analyst here and health and wellness coach. As an expert on habits and behaviour change i am sorry but i have to correct you. What matters most is in terms of long term improvement is how regularly you do something, not how well you do it. Consistency wins over quality every time. A couple of ‘good form’ classes with a PT will never compare to the overall benefit of doing ‘mediocre’ exercise regularly. When trying to establish a habit, just showing up counts, you will perfect the craft as you go. But if you want it to stick, ocasional PT classes aint going to cut it. Read the book ‘Grit’ or Atomic Habits’ for further explanation. Dont get me wrong, i love myself a PT session, but unless you are doing them regularly enough and consistently they wont account to much.
I feel like she wasn’t necessarily talking about behavior change when she was making that point. I definitely picked up that she meant when you work out it isn’t as effective if you’re literally doing it incorrectly or even unsafely.
I cannot talk enough about all the different services your local library offers. Here in Arizona, the different Maricopa County library systems offer free access to Kanopy, Overdrive, The New York Times, etc. They also offer a lot of free programs for every age group and topic. The library isn't just for books anymore, it's a hub for so many great services!
Regarding volunteering and mental health/life satisfaction -- while I don't doubt that there are some positive effects from volunteering, this looks like a pretty clear case of correlation not equaling causation. It seems very probable that the mentally healthy, satisfied people simply had a much higher capacity to volunteer and give back. Indeed if there is any causation to draw, I suspect it goes in the other direction with someone being more likely to volunteer if they're happy and healthy.
Along with the library card - the free bins in front of Second and Charles. Not only do I take from the bin, I give the books and movies they don't buy from me to the bin. It's a win-win. I'm able to purge my bookshelves while adding to it as well. And love, love, love my FitOn app.....free fitness videos, or you can upgrade to a paid version (REALLY CHEAP) that allows you to download videos and cast videos to your TV.
The swap/sell groups are actually a godsend. I'm having my first baby and everything is so expensive. I joined a few baby buy and sell groups and it's crazy how many people are selling kids items for dirt cheap or even offering them for free. I went to pick up an outfit and ended up being given a whole bag of baby outfits cause the woman didnt feel like trying to sell them. I've picked up toys for $5 that retail for up to $70. Even when it comes to diapers I've been able to swap sizes with other moms if we have too much of one size and not enough of another. Books have been the best part cause $10 can get you a whole series of books that would have cost over a hundred.
It’s like they read the library comments in the last video. Good job TFD. Love the videos, especially the Chelsea vids. She is like the sassy New York friend I’ve always wanted.
I'm an online seller. USPS Priority packaging can ONLY be used for packages sent USPS PRiority mail. Most of the stuff in my shop can be shipped First Class. Your best bet is to save mailers you get when you buy stuff online.
Yes! I reuse Amazon boxes, and a lot of the things I sell are small and can fit in a padded envelope, so I buy different sizes of padded envelopes in bulk.
Chelsea, you are a gem, and this is a great video. Your ideas that you can help improve your mental outlook by getting therapy or by volunteering (both ideas which are based on research) are right on. I watch the ads here because I know that they support TFD and pay for these valuable videos. And I check out the companies that advertise, including Aspiration. Thanks for everything you are doing, as you and your company continue to weather this pandemic, just like all of us.

Yes! As a fitness professional I love your first point here- esp for new people or those who really resist of don’t enjoy it- the one-on-one can be a real game/life changer. ❤️
Omg...I haven’t been to the library in a year or so. I use to love the library 😣. Whenever I wanted to binge a Star or HBO, I’ll check the library for the seasons first before paying for the subscription. And books too lol
On the first point, group classes are great for socializing, making friends and generally just working out, but totally agree, if someone is focused on meeting specific goals, always go with a trainer.
I workout at home. No more fuel spending, less suplements, less time waiting in line. Much more results. No more crap! Now I can train at home and also watch TFD! The best of both worlds. I invest in myself and in my financial education. Eureka!🤔🧐😀 Even my cat supervise my exercises. What more do you want? 🤣
I wish I had the discipline for this. I tried working out at home, always put it off and then put off ever getting back to the gym. It was one of the worst decisions I ever made. The pandemic also ruined my routine and now I can't even muster the desire to go back to getting up at 5:30 to go
Pretty good advice overall. The 1 on 1 training sessions definitely has me thinking... My only issue is what seems to be a merger between a paid sponsorship and the information you’re espousing. On its surface, Aspiration sounds fine, but the fact that they’re paying you, might result in an erosion of trust over time. I’ve unsubscribed from channels I used to really enjoy for this very reason. I hope I’m not sounding petty or like a hater. I just feel like you have to have boundaries in place to avoid the erosion of trust.
Yeah, I really don't feel comfortable with Chelsea presenting scripted ad content as *advice*. It's not an issue if she says, "consider swapping big banks for socially-conscious ones," then goes into the benefits of doing so in a GENERIC context, even if she does refer to Aspiration by name (ie, "Aspiration is a great choice, we'll be give you more info at the end of the video,") . But to have tip #2 be a sponsored plug feels gratuitous and irresponsible.
I get what you’re saying, while I do enjoy seamless integration of ads (remember when they used to be a smack in the face?), I would feel better about it if I knew her/TFD team were 100% behind Aspiration (like they are for Intuit).
I completely agree with this. I also think that the Aspiration service is very inappropriate for this particular list and its "Zero-Dollar Swap" title. While some of the advertised perks and services are free (like planting a tree), this company charges anywhere from $4-$7 a MONTH for some of their better perks. This means that the up to 1% APR and the carbon neutral gas purchases require monthly fees. I suggest people go to a credit union long before they go with Aspiration.
Just keep the boxes from online orders and reuse those! They fold down super flat and can even be stored in a small apartment, behind a cabinet or smth.

absolutely HILARIOUS how chelsea judgementally talks about holiday gatherings, then calls a large political rally with 0 social distancing and many not wearing masks a "vibe". very cool chelsea!
I couldn't find the link mentioned about crowdsourced therapy in the description by Chrissy Milazzo, but I found it with the Google: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T4sGRq4T1BvUOcBHiI0Ikv5Y07N1zShbUFRBfAv_Kno/edit#gid=915425781
Your criticism is pretty useless without specific examples of what you mean. Perhaps you're not used to TFD's videos, but this video's pretty typical in terms of content and tone. She's just trying to give advice in an informative and professional way - if you find it condescending/patronising, then why bother to listen to the video?
@@lavienestpasunlongfleuvetr2559 At 8:54 she says "Because you're not seeing as many people in person as you used to, I HOPE". I found that condescending as well. It didn't add anything to the video, and instead gave off a shaming, condescending vibe. I turned it off right after that. I don't like that kind of crap from any channel, let alone TFD.
@@AlyssaJaneVolta I just laughed as it made me think back to how happy all my holiday gatherings were. If you take it personally, you may need to not be on a platform like this

@@thriftythreads13 For someone so focused on efficiency, pretty odd she didn't take advantage to phrase it that way.
Thank god for the fast forward feature ! Now I don’t have to listen to Chelsea’s commercial😜
absolutely HILARIOUS how chelsea judgementally talks about holiday gatherings, then calls a large political rally with 0 social distancing and many not wearing masks a "vibe". very cool chelsea!
Par for the course. I watch for the financial advice, not the politics.
Watched this while writing postcards for the Georgia runoff elections :)
I couldn't find the link mentioned about crowdsourced therapy in the description by Chrissy Milazzo, but I found it with the Google:

I miss the time when youtube wasnt 50% commercials.
Wow five minutes ago
Now you’re speaking my language.
Am I the only one that feels like a lot of this content is repetitive? Love TFD but it’s super stale
Flails in hello*
I can't stand the American thing where an add is just added into the content under the guise of it being the actual content.
"I HOPE" max cringe
Please watch the tone and word choice - It comes off as condescending.
Agreed!
@@AlyssaJaneVolta I just laughed as it made me think back to how happy all my holiday gatherings were. If you take it personally, you may need to not be on a platform like this
