I think I have listened to the Born To Die album more than any other album in my life. It's a whole different experience to listen to her albums straight through as opposed to listening to songs out of order online, it is for me anyway. Every one of her albums is an experience so if you haven't listened to any of them straight through and have been jumping around, I recommend you give it a try. You can see how much she grows from album to album. She is truly an amazing artist.

this videoclip is just so well made. it has lanas low-cost homemade videotape aesthetic and vibe but then there is a freaking helicopter just behind lanas window. If that particular shot of her standing and then slowly dancing in front of a helicopter, wind blowing her hair and dress, was freezed, it would TOTALLY look like Edward Hoppers painting. This kind of American Dream cliché (but not in a bad way) is so fascinating to me. It really is something so unique about Lana that I can't stop be fascinated by.

Lana is great, a legend ( maybe not yet but ...) she's unique, have a great voice and a great personality. she's just so underrated. she do and did some amazing stuff that people need to hear. like Ultraviolence was so underrated but so great. nowadays only pop and catchy song work ( taylor, rihanna beyonce ..) unless your name is Adele ( she's great but always the same stuff it's borring, it's about notoriety). Lana could become more famous et big if she could stay in the born to die style and do more promotion for her album ( tv live as she did in the past), but the truth is that she doesn't really care about fame and selling album since born to die , she's just making music for ears and art not for sell anymore. that's why she's so special and still close to fan. I hope her next album will be like she wants but with more promo
while they were busy making mainstream commercial club music, she released Paradise, Ultraviolence and Honeymoon, alongside film soundtrack songs. Plus, if you just hear the monologues of her videos, you'd understand. If you focus on Ride, Tropico, Young and Beautiful, West Coast, you wouldn't have to ask this question above. And if you just know the background story behind Terrence Loves You, you wouldn't have to ask the question above. Nor if you focus on the different layers of music and production in every song of hers.
Why do you think Rihanna decided to release "a personal album" as she said and called it "Anti", Lana already did this with releasing her previous albums especially Ultraviolence. Why do you think Bey decided to make "Lemonade" film? Lana already did this with Tropico and Ride, and at least, she herself wrote them, without the need of 10 writers to write a song like "Work" where you find no lyrics! Plus, just go read about the similarities of Taylor's videos, trying to copy Lana, especially with "Style" and "Wildest Dreams".
@SummerDelRey Yes I hope she goes on live tv. But I guess this is how she maintains the special thing about her music, and about their fans. The reason her new albums are a bit underrated is because they aren't so radio friendly such as Born To Die. Although, i think they are perfect for radio even if they are sad, just like Adele songs.
If Lana wants, she can go on a live interview anyday, sing her most sad song, and make people cry, and sell a lot of albums again in a moment, but she doesn't care, or she thinks it's not time yet to make the same big exposure again..

The video imagery lulls you into a false sense of security, and then, suddenly, she quickly goes to the window, turns her back, and the wind violently sweeps through the house and into her. Every single thing about her is incredibly lovely in that moment. I have NEVER seen a music video with any moment more impactful. Ever. I'm dead. I will never be able to forget her now. This was stunning. Long, trailing shots cut with sporadic repetitions, emphasising the constant battle with the media and the paparazzi. I've only just got into Lana Del Rey recently. I listen to a lot of different styles of music, but mostly heavy metal, hip-hop and alternative rock like Interpol and The National. Her music has truly shocked me. She is popular, but it's not pop music. It's rich in story, style and, oddly enough, passive-aggressiveness. I love how she always has something poignant and personal to say, but isn't throwing it down our throats. It's subtle, delicate and sexy, all without sacrificing her identity as a woman and an artist, selling her soul to hysteria and mob mentalities. This is what pop music can be. This is what a beautiful woman can do with sounds that millions adore. Kudos to Lana and all those that worked hard on this project.
Edit: A few have said that the point of the video and song could have been about a past relationship and the feeling of being trapped within it. It's an interesting idea that could well be true. I think I prefer it more than the paparazzi theme. But it doesn't explain the glossy magazine and helicopter photographing her in a seaside location, a common spot for snappers to pray on others in revealing situations. Love the dialogue this video has sparked.

Daniel West For those who haven't gotten the video, Its obvious the helicopter represents a man and Lana starting at the 3rd floor means she was feeling good at first but she starts falling through the floors and starts getting tired of this man that start representing just wind. Lana finally fills her cup up and run off to the shore stones where she will find a way to get rid off the man, this means it's hard to find that thing that gives you courage and usually the road it's tough. When she shoots and kill the man, she finally feels relief.
For me Lana is getting stronger and I hope this album talks a lot about that too. Yes, it's funny the gun doesn't fit the case and her coat was tangled in the ladder and it was put there cuz nothing's perfect.

This was the first Lana’s song I ever listened to seven yrs ago when I was like eight bc one my teachers suddenly started explaining my class the lore ab why Lana’s artistic name is Lana del Rey and then she played this videoclip, it was the new song at the time; so my first memory of Lana is her making a paparazzi helicopter explode. Now I’m fifteen and a while ago I started listening to her music and I’m in love with it; today I remembered this song and I’m thinking ab how I hope my teacher is doing well bc she was so pretty with copper long hair and an angelical voice when she decided that she didn’t give a fuck and played this song ab Lana getting high on the beach and killing paparazzis to eight y/o kids, in retrospective she was a pretty iconic woman, thank you Miss Evelyn
