John Logie Baird FRSE was a Scottish inventor, electrical engineer, and innovator who demonstrated his working television system on 26 January 1926. He went on to invent the first publicly demonstrated colour television system, and the first viable purely electronic colour television picture tube. thats where the Logie's name comes from.

The Logie is named after John Logie Baird, a Scottish inventor and one of the various inventors that lead towards the invention of television.
Sally at the time of the clip was in the TV show "All in the Family" The married daughter of Archie and Edith Bunker she was married to Michael (Rob Reiner) and the four of them lived in the same NY home, it was based on the British "Till death do us part". The bag was a complimentary bag Qantas would give to overseas passengers back in the 70's.

Back in the day, if anyone in Australia bought an airline ticket they would get a branded bag like that from the airline. This interview was done by Norman on a trip to America. He carries it as an expression of the naivety and innocence of an Australian abroad.
Yes, the interviews are just as much, if not more, about Norman than the talent. Paul and Linda McCartney worked him out and played along very graciously. Keith Moon not so much.
You have to keep in mind, Garry McDonald was an actor, not a comedian. His interviews are actually mostly scripted not spontaneous.

After offering him a pineapple doughnut and directing him to the Night and Day, he then asked some typical gormless Norman questions including whether he and his wife got their bond back when they vacated the Prime Ministerial residence!
The bag you see Norman holding was one of the cheap vinyl promotional bags that airlines handed out to passengers in the 60's and 70's - mainly to children.
If you took one to school then the other kids thought you were dead posh because they assumed that you'd been on a plane somewhere.

You dont get that sort of reaction unless you really have great skills. I saw a very brief doco where NG said Rudolf Nureyev (who he was interviewing) was so rude, he turned away rom the camera in what was a tiny dressing room….So NG quickly ad lib’d and filmed the mirror reflection. Garry McDonald (NG) knew his craft better than most.

It's a combover gone wrong, comedy genius was Norman Gunston, he was unique, loved his show every week, you didn't know what to expect next. You should watch the clip of him on the steps of Federal parliament when Gough Whitlam got sacked (Knifed by Malcolm Fraser) so funny.........

Gunston sported the combover long before Donald Trump made it fashionable.

The reason she is cracking up at the end is that she has seen the bits of toilet paper on his face from Him shaving. She sort of says that if he cuts himself all the time he should use and electric razor and he replies that he does.

Gunston also did an awesome cover of AC/DC’s “It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll” that sings to the heart of all Aussies called “It’s a long way to the shop if you want a Chicko Roll”, you would of course have to be familiar with the Akka Dakka one first to get the joke

Norman's humour is all built around his characters naivety. He is not bitter. Norman is unworldly. His brilliance was that he listens, takes the cues presented by his guests and turns them into a piece of gold. 'You should use an electric razor." Her response was triggered by the beautifully measured pause, and concerned confusion "I do.". Cue Sally's spontaneous, incredulous, laughter. She gave him the opening. He responded with the comedians main tool, an unexpected destination for the thought. It's like Eric & Ernie, Lewis and Martin, Brooks and Reiner (Carl Reiner's son Rob was Sally's husband in All in the Family). Norman's brilliant distinction is creating the space for the interview guest, to replace Ernie et al, to be the straight man.

Norman interviewed Lee Marvin during this series as well , talking to Lee outside a courtroom in California during his famous law suit , & Lee never suffered fools gladly gave Norman a quick but friendly interview , he already knew him from the ‘Logies’. so was guide chummy as he liked Aussies & used to come to Cairns Queensland fishing every year in the 1970’s .
Like everyone says , Norman was ahead of his time.

Garry McDonald's best TV Show would have to be Mother & Son IMO. The plot of the show addresses the problems of ageing and caring for somebody with increasing memory loss, with an often sharp-edged humour which carried with it a tinge of sadness. A triumph for both Garry McDonald and Ruth Cracknell.

Norman Gunston was a spin off Aunty Jack. As far as I know the 'victims' are an unaware that is a comedy interview, look up the Rod Stewart one that is almost as good. The Sally Struthers interview was definitely the highlight. The Logie is Australian Television's is run by a magazine the TV Week and is popularity contest voted by the public. The name Logie come from the Scottish inventor of Television John Baird Logie google him.

Logies are a real award in Australia it’s for work on a TV shows and are voted by viewers to reward the best actor’s by viewer’s my uncle won a silver one for his work on a show call” country practise. The bag he’s holding was the type of bag the Airlines would give you in the 70’s and 80’s for carry on as a gift.
