When I talked to Tommy on RockLine like 7 yrs ago he said they'd NEVER play this song live. This is beyond a treat for us true STYX fans!! I am so smiling right now. Classic!!!
I was a boy of five when this song came out, 1973, and I didn't know it existed until I was 48, a few days ago. . I was out walking and listening to Styx: The Complete Wooden Nickel Recordings on my iPod. This came on and I thought "what the hell?". I can't stop listening to it and laughing since then. An underground classic for sure :-)
Ha ha! This song always cracked me up... I used to play it for people sometimes and challenge them to guess who did it. They NEVER knew the answer and would be so shocked when I told them STYX!!!! LOL! So cool to see these guys clowning around with it here. :-D
This little ditty was on the Serpent Is Rising album, I think. A number of us sang (uncredited of course) the chorus on it one night in the downtown studio where it was recorded.
I am currently looking for a publisher to commit to a book I'm in the process of writing about the origins and backstory of this song. I have been obsessed over this song since I was 14 ( I'm 47 now). The only one I need to contact is Chuck Ponozzo and a few of the Plexiglass Toilet Choir. I hesitate to contact Dennis but associates have said he has calmed down over the years and may answer a few questions. I won't have any peace in my life until the story of this masterpiece is out on the shelves!
@@nolanstolz Sorry for the delayed reply. For some reason, I couldn't enter replies on YT for long time. Now miraculously I can. Back story was John Panozzo wanted a song that he was the lead singer on (not a good singer but a great drummer). So I believe he wrote the lyrics. The band's wives and girlfriends and mgmt staff were invited to a late night taping to partake in the chorus. All done live. The rest is music history. My brother swears he can hear my voice among those in the choir.
@@st3v444 Except that it was John & Chuck Panozzo, and John Curulewski who wrote and performed it... they were tired of DDY being all artsy and super-serious about "producing great work" and they wrote this song to spite him. JY and DDY didn’t want anything to do with it, and they did not perform on the recording (although a lot of the other techs, roadies, etc joined in).
Great tune but Tommy is playing it wrong with missing the G chord in playing it in the D progression...I think the song originally was played in the key of E and it was just an E...B7 and A....So in transposing it in the key of D thats why Im saying that...But its not like he really ever played it years ago... eh?... He he he... And Tommy is still my favorite!...And its so cool to see Chucky singing this!...He he he
I had "As Bad As This" pop up in my mix on the way to work this morning (there's more Styx in that mix than any other band btw). Plexiglass Toilet came on after and had to laugh given all of the hysteria around coronavirus and people stocking up on toilet paper.
It was on The Serpent Is Rising. Chuck and JY are the only band members left from those days and I've heard that JY refuses to even acknowledge this song's existence.
I was glad when I found this album early on when Lady became a hit. It made the Dennis DeYoung orchestral pieces easier to take knowing that someone had a sense of humor. I really preferred their rockers and Tommy Shaw with JY had a battle to keep Styx interesting post 1975.
do you ever just remember that this song exists ? lmaooo it’s 1am here + somehow i had a deep deep lost memory of this song and had to come make sure it wasnt a figment of my imagination 😂 happy to find this gem~~
For what it's worth number 2 and Serpent is Rising were both good records than JC left and it all went wrong..dont give me the forth album plus that stuff stinks
ROTFL! This makes my day! Thank you for the hearty laugh! Now I've got to remember which album that's from...Maybe...Styx II? Love you! ~Wren P.S.: You forgot to flush!
Don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet Said the momma to her son Wipe the butt clean with the paper Make it nice for everyone But don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah〜♬

I was in the Plexiglass Toilet chorus back on the original recording.
RIP JC, the legend who wrote this
Larry popping up like a cartoon gopher took this video from "great" to "truly amazing"
I've had this song stuck in my head since I first heard it in the 70s. So glad you brought out this little gem for the TRUE Styx fans!!!
+Jeff Light Me too!
I feel better knowing I'm not the only one afflicted ;)
I can't believe less than 30k people have viewed this, the only performance of the greatest song styx ever did.
Curulewski is laughing his butt off. Eternally ticking Deyoung off. 🤣
The best part is Tommy looks so freakin' serious the whole time.
Never thought I'd see that song played live!!! This is great!!

Always loved this. It was even aired on the Dr Demento show! Rock hard!

Autumn Noxx I’ve done that many times as well.
haha, I love this so much! Gowan is hilarious, and it’s great to see Chuck singing!
Gowan is hysterical!!
How much do I Love this???! I guess I'll always be a Styx Heaux

that's awesome! any insight into this song? like, was it written in the studio as a joke to fill time, or?

@@newavatar2947 See my reply to @notanstolz
@bobgoranson2206 it sounds like Dennis DeYoung laughing at the end, but I heard they did it without Dennis knowing about it...
Awesome. Great story behind this song. JC was great.
OMGoodness - what a riot!! Your expressions are priceless!! Thanks for the laughs!!
"No sit, no sit..." LMAO!!
This is the greatest video I have ever seen. Go Chuck!
lol I love this song! I think the "No alcohol beyond this point" sign in the background is funny and ironic lol.
because DDY and Curulewski were probably high when they wrote this.

@@jona.874 makes sense. i was sorta just joking around
How awesome is this!! Thanks for the smiles, guys.
Missed a couple of lines, but still freaking awesome to see this! You're amazing Tommy Shaw!
Can you fathom living with Tommy. Songs that come from the kitchen spontaneously! lol

They probably just changed the key to suit their voices.

I still think this classic needs to be added to your setlist
is this the only time it was ever performed
Yes, sadly
@@ATalkingBadger great song
On of my FAVORITES on Dr. DEMENTO!!!!!
That should be a staple of every show they do. This has long been one of my favorites.
Man, been a fan for years, never heard this! Too funny!
Dammit! Now this song is stuck in my head!

My favorite Styx song by far. ! Domo arigato
Lawrence !!!
Always entertainer *\(^o^)/*
OMG! That was hilarious! I'd never heard this one before. Ya'all looked like you were having a lot of fun with it :)
You can find it hidden on "The Serpent is Rising" album ;).
Oh wow I didn't know that. Thank you! :)
Anita - Its right after the song "As bad as this", enjoy :D
mvunit3 As Bad As This . . . a badass blues song.
do you ever just remember that this song exists ? lmaooo it’s 1am here + somehow i had a deep deep lost memory of this song and had to come make sure it wasnt a figment of my imagination 😂 happy to find this gem~~
It's 2020 and I'm seeing this for the first time. Made my night...
Notice they are outside the "No Alcohol Beyond This Point" area.
just found this.. thank you so much for posting!! fantastic!!!
This is priceless.
you have way to much fun:)
Too funny! Looks like they were having some fun for sure.
LOL Tommy you forgot to go to the G chord every second line of each stanza XD but this is awesome!!
Grove of Eglantine, Best Thing, or Father O.S.A. please!
I never thought it would be As Bad as This :P.
. . . . Hehehe that was awesome, how did I miss this after all these years? :).
Love this song
Nice, now do Shooz, the best song Styx ever wrote (please)
Shooz is awesome!!!
OMG that is awesome!!
I could argue, I think successfully, Serpent is a really really really good album. I know everyone hated it but it's very Queen-like in my opinion.
Mike P I loved Serpant
For what it's worth number 2 and Serpent is Rising were both good records than JC left and it all went wrong..dont give me the forth album plus that stuff stinks
Serpent is their weirdest record by far, and I like weird, so I love it.
This is a real Styx song, it was written by former guitarist john Curulewski, RIP.
ROTFL! This makes my day! Thank you for the hearty laugh! Now I've got to remember which album that's from...Maybe...Styx II? Love you! ~Wren
P.S.: You forgot to flush!
LOL 😂 Love them 😍 😍
I can hear it now on Rick Dee's in the morning. 😍😇❤️
LOVE!
A classic.
Dr. Demento meets Larry Gowan!!
If I recall, John wanted to sing on the album and came up with this little tune.
Funny, thought they forgot this one.
Funny song!
They should have sold this tune to Spinal Tap.
hah, beauty one Tommy!
hahah- Guys, when the fans want you to dig into the Wooden Nickel stuff, I'm not sure this is what we're after. Funny!
Most excellent! lol
This song was written by John Curlewski, who Tommy later replaced. From "The Serpent is Rising LP" this song pre-dates Tommy.
Don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet
Said the momma to her son
Wipe the butt clean with the paper
Make it nice for everyone
But don't sit down on the Plexiglas toilet yeah〜♬
Midwest potty humor. Love it.
Holy Crap! 😄😁
Crap! Almost peed myself on this one. Good one!!
Hilarious!
LOL!
I cannot believe Tommy let somebody record this! lol... I can die happy now.
Funny as shit!!😁
I’m getting hot!!!
Not exactly my favorite Styx tune but it us nice to see them dig deep into their first 4 albums play something other than Lady
Joy
Musicians everywhere are shaking their heads. They are playing it as a joke like the Stones doing "Far Away Eyes" except this song is a joke.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😊❤😂😂😂🎉
Whats the actual name of this song and what album is it on
Plexiglass Toilet, it is a hidden track on The Serpent is Rising. It is after As Bad as This.
T. V. O.D. by the Normals is another weird goofy but "cool song" since the 70's ! And the other song "Warm Leatherete"...
"As Bad As This", LOL
This is one of the stupidist songs I ever heard...................but I laughed my ass off later on....:-)
