Very helpful! Thank you. Do you suggest transferring your domain over to Bluehost entirely? I am looking into that but I have to wait until I have owned my domain for a certain number of days.
Hey, Jennifer! Thanks for watching! It really comes down to personal preference. Pointing your domain is quick and easy and doesn't cause much disruption in your business. However, if you transfer, it's a bit more involved and can cause some downtime on your site. If you happy with the service of where your domain is currently "living", then I say just keep it there and point it towards Bluehost. Hope that helps and thanks again for watching!
@@blogwithben Thanx for that question Jennifer. Hi Ben, your video was really helpful. I am building a website for a client who already had a domain name. I purchased the hosting from bluehost and bluehost gave me a temporary domain to work with. Now the website is ready and I want to make it accessible by the domain my client already had. Could you help me with some quick step by step instructions on how to do this? I'd really appreciate it.
Hey, Sebastian! Nice work on getting a client! So are you wanting to transfer a domain to Bluehost and then use it as the primary domain for the site you built?
Thanks, very well done. What if the website was already created, and now i want to switch hosting. Will i lose the content when i point it to the new nameservers? I guess i have to take the wordpress files and upload to the new host? what do i do? is that right?
Hey, Jonathan! Thanks for watching. No you won't lose your content, but you will need to migrate your site from host to host. It can be a somewhat technical process, so I recommend having your new hosting company do it for you. A lot of companies do it for free. Who are you migrating to?
Hi, Angie! Thanks for watching! I don't believe it will. You should still be able to manage your email address through GoDaddy. I'd follow up with GoDaddy just to be sure, but I think you'll be ok. :)

At the moment the site I've built has a temporary domain that bluehost assigned me. How do I go about getting rid of this temporary domain and linking the site to the actual domain name? Thanks in advance
Hey, Sebastian! Thanks for watching! Your temporary domain should transition to your permanent domain after the nameservers propagate. It can take up to 48 hours for this to happen sometimes. Are you still seeing the temporary domain now?
Hey Ben, great video! I have a small doubt tho, the thing is I am changing my domain registrar from podc to godaddy and my hosting service is bluehost, so what are the steps i need to follow to connect my new domain to my hosting provider also my email provider is office 365 so what should i do in that case as well. Your advice would really mean a lot, Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Samay! This video will walk you through the steps on how to point you domain from GoDaddy to Bluehost. As for your email, Office 365 is great. What are you trying to do with it? No sure I understand your question, but thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video, this is very helpful. Just a quick question. I purchased a domain name from Afternic, and the domain registered into my GoDaddy account. It says I can't transfer it until later next month. Can I create my website (with wordpress) on GoDaddy, and buy hosting from Bluehost? I have heard great things about Bluehost, but I can't transfer my domain as I believe I have to wait 60 days.
Hey, Tom! Thanks for watching! Yes, Bluehost is a great web host. I wouldn't have partnered with them if they didn't offer a great product. As for your domain, in order to build a WordPress.org blog, you'll need web hosting. So, if you start building it on GoDaddy, then you'll be using GoDaddy web hosting. If you really want to use Bluehost, then I recommend waiting until your domain has officially transferred from Afternic to GoDaddy. Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks!
Blog With Ben Thank you for replying. I want to build a .com website. If I switch the name servers to Bluehost, can I purchase web hosting from Bluehost and build on Bluehost while keeping my domain on GoDaddy?
Yep! You just need to purchase Bluehost web hosting and let them know you have an existing domain. You can do that in the sign up process. Then once you have Bluehost web hosting, you can point your GoDaddy domain to the Bluehost nameservers. :)
What are the steps after this? I have always purchased URLs for my clients. I have a new client who already has their URL and wants me to host and build the site. I'm not new to Bluehost and already have websites hosted there. Do I need to assign the domain? This seems straightforward but I'm still a little confused.
Hey, Sarah! Thanks so much for using the tutorial! I know that domains can get confusing so I totally understand where you're coming from. If you have already purchased the domain then all you need to do is point the nameservers at the web host. This allows you to keep the domain registered with wherever you going the domain, and still use a separate web host. If you're still having trouble, feel free to reach out at info@blogwithben.com and I'd be happy to help out. Thanks again for watching! I really appreciate it!
@@blogwithben Hi! Actually, I figured it out. I went in to assign the domain like normal but noticed there was a way to add a custom url not associated with bluehost. I feel more relieved. Once I get approval I'll be migrating the site from its subdomain.
Half way there. In other videos i saw People performing more steps. They are clicking on assign and adding it to BlueHost as addon domain. I'm really confused here. Bcoz i want my other website to be separate, so that me and my brother can go our separate ways in the future. A reply would be really helpful. Btw, your explanation is awesome.
Hey! Thanks for watching! Great question. This video isn't necessary adding a domain to your web hosting, it's just pointing the domain to the nameservers. An addon domain is different int he sense that it's a fully functional domain that can be created from within your control panel. This addon domain is a new, unique website hosted in a new folder on your account so that you can host several domains from one control panel. I hope that helps and thanks again for watching!
@@blogwithben Thanks Ben, i appreciate that you value your viewers. I would like to add one more question. So by adding a domain as addon domain. In future, can we transfer only the addon domain to other hosting without any issues? While the primary domain stays in the old hosting service.
I assume using the domain transfer option on GoDaddy does all of this automatically with the authorization code? Or do I still need to manually change the name servers? Man, I am totally new to web developing and am so lost. It's so confusing. All I want is to host my domain somewhere, find someone to build me a website and then publish it for as little money and steps as possible until I learn the ropes. Then I can start exploring more products and options. My account at GoDaddy is such a disaster I have no idea what to do with the account so I am scrubbing it all after transferring my domains. All they want to do is phone you constantly and sell you stuff. I am normally very tech skilled but lately(Been a technician and tech hobbyist since 1985) I have been having cognitive issues and the entire process is frustrating and depressing. I feel like my brain is gone. Should I wait to do the transfers from GD to BH until the domain renewals have passed a certain date?
Hey, Del! I know it can seem like a lot when you are just starting out. You'll need to manually change the nameservers on GoDaddy to your web host nameservers. The video walks you through the process step-by-step, but if you're still having trouble just let me know. Thanks!
Hey, Reilly! Thanks for watching! Sometimes it can take up to 48 hours for it to propagate. Currently, it's been about 24 hours. Is the domain still parked?
Hi Ben great tutorial really helpfull. I was trying to launch my website but I don't see the launch or the publish option. And when I visit my web site url it gives me 404 could u please help me in this.
i've already build a website under wordpress hosted by bluehosting with a temporary name (box.xx.tem.etc) now i wanted to change the name that i purchased from godaddy to my current website which is build on bluehost without losing my website content . how to do that?
Hey! Thanks for watching! You can use this video to change the nameservers of the godaddy domain you want to use for your Bluehost site. Simply replace the Godaddy nameservers with the Bluehost nameservers and the domain will show up on your Bluehost site in about 24 hours. I hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!
we dont need to forword a self hosted website ?? i forword my website with the same domain name and now i cant go to wordpress editor , when i click to wordpress editor i get sucerity check , and i cant open my website
Hey! Thanks for watching! This video is showing you how to point the nameservers at the new web host. There isn't any domain forwarding in this video. I'm sorry you're having those issues, but I recommend reaching out to GoDaddy support to help you resolve the issue. If you are still having issues feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to take a closer look! Thanks again for watching and best of luck to you!
Hey, Jaybee! Thanks for watching! If you change your email address, then yes your emails will be affected. Also, what do you mean when you say "automatically working together with the site"? Thanks for watching!
Hi. Shivika! Thanks for watching! The steps to change web hosts is very different than this video. I recommend reaching out to Bluehost's technical support and ask them about their migration services. You can check it out here: www.bluehost.com/professional-services Additionally, don't cancel your GoDaddy hosting until you've transferred your database and files from GoDaddy. After you have all your files on both hosting accounts, then it's time to change your domain name's DNS (the steps in this video). I hope this helps and good luck!
Hey, Matthew! Thanks for watching! I usually takes about 24-48 hrs for everything to switch over. I see that your comment was 2 weeks ago, so I assume everything is now in place! Thanks again for watching!
What is the reason for doing this? Pointing doesn't change your primary domain name at bluehost, this will just "point" to the primary domain name from the domain at godaddy. If I want to change the primary domain name at bluehost you have to transfer it over, and if you just bought a domain from godaddy but host at bluehost, you have to wait a couple of months to transfer it over per godaddy "rules". Very annoying! I would have bought all my domains from bluehost if I would have known this from the start.
Hey, MJ. Thanks for watching. Everyone's situation and preferences are different when it comes to how they structure their domains. Sometimes a domain is cheaper at GoDaddy and sometimes you can get a free domain from Bluehost (depending on your web host plan). That can play a big part in whether or not they decide to point a domain or transfer it all together. I'm curious, why did you "need" to transfer? Thanks again for watching!
Hey, Gries! The domain will still be managed through GoDaddy, but the nameservers will now point to Bluehost and will allow your site to "work" with Bluehost web hosting. Does that answer your question? Thanks for watching! :)
Hey, Brandon! Thanks for watching and sorry you're having an issue. Has it been over 24 hours since you switched the nameservers? Also, when you say the page goes blank...what exactly are you referring to? Your site?
Hi, Redwan! Thanks for watching! There have been some updates to the backend of Bluehost since I created this video, so some of the steps may be a little different. However, you can still get by with this video until I create an updated version for 2020. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'd be happy to help! Thanks again for watching!
Hey, Kemma! Thanks for watching. To answer your question....yes you need to sign up and purchase a Bluehost web hosting account in order to use their services. Hope that helps and thanks again for watching!

@@MARINGTRIBECULTURE Hi again Kemma. I know it can be confusing when you are just starting out, so I understand where you're coming from. Bluehost is a web hosting company, so when you "sign up" with them, you are essentially purchasing web hosting from them. That is their main product and what they specialize in. You already have the domain name, but in order for that domain to work, you'll need web hosting. Let me know if that answers your question. Thanks!
Can I ask for some help? I am trying to point a .ca I bought on Godaddy over to Bluehost. I don't understand though, because in the updated version of this video, in bluehost there's already a domain name present (bensnewbloggingvideo.com) that is clicked to access the name servers. I am building a website on bluehost. There is nothing listed in the domain section, just the option to purchase a new domain (which would defeat the point of pointing my name over). What am I missing here? TIA

Hi there! Thanks for watching! If your using Wordpress.com, then you won't need to point it to Bluehost. When you say "managed" are you referring to hosting or the CMS?

@@blogwithben Thanks Ben, i appreciate that you value your viewers.
I would like to add one more question. So by adding a domain as addon domain. In future, can we transfer only the addon domain to other hosting without any issues? While the primary domain stays in the old hosting service.
Thanks Ben
You're very welcome! Thank YOU for watching! :)
Thanks. very helpful
You're welcome, Joyce! Thanks for wathcing!
Thanks!
so, i have godaddy, but use cloudflare dns on my godaddy acount, what should i do or change in my bluehost to make it work?
Hey, Androsk! Thanks for watching! That sounds kind of tricky. Who is your web host?
Hey Ben, I followed all these steps, but my website says it is still parked by GoDaddy, any idea why? Thanks!
Hey, Reilly! Thanks for watching! Sometimes it can take up to 48 hours for it to propagate. Currently, it's been about 24 hours. Is the domain still parked?
worked perfectly, thank you!
Awesome! So glad the video was able to help you out! Thanks for watching, Anette and good luck with your site! :)
Hi Ben! Thank you for your video. When I go to DNS Management it will not allow me to change the DNS Settings. Do you have any clue? Thank you!
Hey, Gonzalo! Thanks for watching. I have a silly question, are you using GoDaddy?
Hi Ben great tutorial really helpfull. I was trying to launch my website but I don't see the launch or the publish option. And when I visit my web site url it gives me 404 could u please help me in this.
Hi Anjan! Thanks for watching! Sometimes it takes 24-48 hours for the namesevers to change over. Are you still getting a 404?
Thanx Pal Your were great Help !
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching! I'm glad the video was able to help you out! :)
i've already build a website under wordpress hosted by bluehosting with a temporary name (box.xx.tem.etc) now i wanted to change the name that i purchased from godaddy to my current website which is build on bluehost without losing my website content . how to do that?
VERY SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT FORWARD. UNLIKE OTHER VIDEOS. I AM HAPPY THANK U
Wow! Thank YOU for watching! I'm glad you found the video helpful! :)
Please help! Emails are affected after the changes made. Will emails be automatically working together with the site as well?
Hey, Jaybee! Thanks for watching! If you change your email address, then yes your emails will be affected. Also, what do you mean when you say "automatically working together with the site"? Thanks for watching!
Hey Ben! I purchased both my domain and hosting from godaddy. But now I want to change my hosting to bluehost. Are the steps same?
Hi.
Just changed my name servers ... I'll see if it worked (it's been a while since I've done this type of thing again)
I just pointed a domain from GoDaddy to Bluehost, but is the domain name supposed to pop up in my BlueHost account or how does that work?
Hey, Gries! The domain will still be managed through GoDaddy, but the nameservers will now point to Bluehost and will allow your site to "work" with Bluehost web hosting. Does that answer your question? Thanks for watching! :)
Thank you!!
No worries! You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
excellent explane, Thank you
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
I did this and the page just goes mostly blank (aside from the menu bar/header) and just sits there. Help
Hey, Brandon! Thanks for watching and sorry you're having an issue. Has it been over 24 hours since you switched the nameservers? Also, when you say the page goes blank...what exactly are you referring to? Your site?
@@blogwithben so the page where I'm changing the name servers to ns1/2.bluehost.com goes blank aside from the header after I hit save.
This was great!
Thanks so much! I'm glad it helped you out!
thank you!
You're welcome, Lurii! Thanks for watching!
why your bluehost page looks different than mine ?
Hi, Redwan! Thanks for watching! There have been some updates to the backend of Bluehost since I created this video, so some of the steps may be a little different. However, you can still get by with this video until I create an updated version for 2020. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'd be happy to help! Thanks again for watching!
*Hello Bro, do I need to pay for web hosting(in Bluehost) before I sign up in Bluehost...?*
Hey, Kemma! Thanks for watching. To answer your question....yes you need to sign up and purchase a Bluehost web hosting account in order to use their services. Hope that helps and thanks again for watching!
@@blogwithben I can't sign up in Bluehost without paying money for web hosting...After I watched your video, I bought a domain name from GoDaddy... Being the first time in Bluehost, I feel a bit confused that I have to pay money for web hosting in order to sign up in Bluehost... Does it happen to everyone? Thanks bro....
Thanks!
@@blogwithben OK thank you Bro... I got your point...
TIA
Hey, Nicole! Thanks for watching! I'm not sure I understand your question without seeing it. Can you email me some screenshots to info@blogwithben.com? I'd be happy to take a closer look.
@@blogwithben I am having the same issue as Nicole. Were you able to figure out a solution? Thanks for the video! 😊
I using domain in godaddy and wordpress managed. can me point this domain to bluehost hosting?
Hi there! Thanks for watching! If your using Wordpress.com, then you won't need to point it to Bluehost. When you say "managed" are you referring to hosting or the CMS?
@@blogwithben i using godaddy
@@duyonline2286 Is your hosting and domain all managed in GoDaddy? If your web hosting is through GoDaddy, then you won't need to point it to another web host like Bluehost.
thank you...
