Legler didn’t pick Minnesota, he said they would be the favorite. And they are the betting favorite. Legler said he believes the Mavs “have the answer to Minnesota’s defense”.

International fans believes more than USA & CANADA. We know Luka from 13th year. So we know how SPECIAL Luka Dončić is. He has so many Trophies and awards, medals, MVPs in all categories from Luka 9th year. Played this PLAYOFF despite injuries, illnesses, fatigue after all seasons and his games, including national team ones for Slovenia. There is no hero who can withstand you and play at such a level for 2 series in such conditions. Now 3 days of recovery and then to new victories.
It’s amazing that Luka has been to 2 conference finals with 2 different Mavs rosters
And he did that in a span of 3 years.
If he had a semi decent center like Adams or Zubac for the first 6 years of his career, Mavs would have had at least two rings by now.

I'm with Dana in her opinion. I don't care that the talking heads are picking Minnesota to win and their opinions don't really matter. I'd rather have them see the Mavs as the underdogs. If they win the series it just makes it that much more enjoyable. I love to hear them backtrack and hear them talk about how well the Mavs played and why they won the series.

They really do Dallas a big favor, it's the kind of motivation Luka needs to destroy the opposing team.
Let everyone underestimate us... I have no problem with that.
Luka averaged 36.5 PPG and 10.5 APG this 2 reg Season against the Wolves. So as good as their defense is, Luka can still find a way to be effective. Specially cause McDaniels is a different kind of defender. He is more like DJJ. Means less physical, more speed and lengh. Luka can handle that better.
And the thing noone talks about. We havent played the Wolves AFTER the trades. Means they do not know our lineup with Washington/Gafford at all. But we do know how they play and we know their lineups. Hell in 2 of our reg season losses neither Luka or Kyrie played and Kyrie missed the 3rd loss on top of that! So like against the Thunder... when Kyrie and Luka played, we beat them! And Powell played 28 minutes in that game, cause Lively was out, while the Wolves were at full strengh! Just saying...
I am NOT saying we are the clear cut favorite and will sweep them. But its crazy how many "experts" count us out.

He missed to many games in the reg season. Had he played 70+ games like Podz/Jaquez, he wouldve been 4th. But its pretty clear that he was a step behind Wemby/Chet/Miller overall, no matter what. They had just way bigger roles. And I am pretty sure he cares more about the PO success then the 4th, 5th or 6th place in the ROY voting in the 1st place.

That series is over, you need to learn to throw out the past. Be prepared for a brand new series, the mentality you're on will lose the series. That's why Minnesota will win and they are hungry. Dallas you know they're here just about it. I'll doubt it Dallas will show up.

Kleber if he was healthy would be such a big help when it comes to guarding KAT. I think how this team manages to guard KAT one-on-one will decide a lot of this series. DDJ and PJ will just have to handle it.

It's fine though the culture of the Mavs is being the underdog. This is sports heritage but when you have a team full of underdogs with a lot of passion and camaraderie, you've embraced the true culture of the Mavs... That's why us as fans can relate with this team so much

This will be a huge test for our frontline. If we're gonna win, the backcourt esp Kai must go beyond 12pts and Luka be normal Luka w/ less complaining to refs.
Kyrie got doubled the whole Thunder series. Legler picks Mavs. I think Luka and Kyrie will be a matchup nightmare. Lastly, Kidd is testing the water on the first game by seeing diff rotations and switching up after the opponent game plans for a "test rotation".
I am from MN, and a Timberwolves fan. So obviously I am rooting for the Wolves. But I am a huge fan of Luka Doncic. I have been watching him play since he came into the league, and I have been rooting for Dallas every year he has played. I think he is the best player in the league, and Dallas deserves a shot at the Championship, but so do the Timberwolves. I honestly think this should be a great series. Two of the best offensive players in the league, against the best defense in the league. Both teams worked their butts off to get here. I think it could go either way, and I believe whoever does can beat Boston. May the best team win.
Because they don't understand that drop coverage that worked against a jokic focused offense won't work when you have rudy switched onto luka at the 3 or trying to close out on pj and d jones. Also McDaniels is not dort on defense. Conley will be unplayable in this series unless you're ok with him getting cooked by kyrie and luka

Came here because I have not gotten to watch this post trade deadline iteration of the Dallas mavericks, and want to know what mavericks fans feel about the difference between the team now versus earlier in the year. How do you guys feel about the matchup against my wolves? What do you think it is gonna take to beat them, and what is the big difference in the team now versus earlier in the year?
Fun fact... Luka and Kyrie just played one game together against your team... the game we won. And the only Dallas big playing in that game was Dwight Powell, cause Lively/Maxi were injured. Now we have Lively, Gafford, Washington to match your teams lengh and physicality. I agree that it will be a hard fought series. It will come down to how much of his normal self Luka can be. Can he be at 75%-80% (like in the last 2 games against the Thunder), or will his knee get worse again and not allow it?
I belive in our team. A lot of "experts" said the Clippers will beat us, everyone said the Thunder will beat us, now look where we are.
The difference is the suffocating D we play in the 4th. In bursts dallas are the best defensive team in the league. We shut down clippers. We shut down OKC. Guess what. You're gonna get shut down some games too

I think our defense is good enough to neutralize anyone on that team not named Anthony Edward and naz reed can be a problem too. But even with Edward, i don't think he'll be more dangerous than SGA was. One thing ill give him is his defense, which will be a problem to deal with.
SGA over Edwards, in terms of consistency alone. AE has been extremely inconsistent, and I'm hoping the Mavs defense can really put the clamps on him.

Man. I was fine making the wcf. But the fact is this playoffs is Luka's Legend moment. Imagine beating 4 50+win teams to win the chip.(i expect celtics to beat pacers). Thatd be goated. Its looking steep still cause wolves and celtics are on that another level. I still have us winning in 7 games against the wolves.
I think it’s important to note that OKCs game plan was to play Luka 1v1 with Dort and then trap Kyrie. That’s the main reason he didn’t score as much. Not forcing shots and accepting the double was the right decision.
On the other hand, j Kidd does need to counter that with set plays if the wolves follow a similar game plan.

@@Topazmind light no contact workouts but is probably nearing the end of his rehab, after that he will likely need a few contact practices before his return, just cause of the amount of physicality he needs to play with

And dont forget what makes us dangerous as a team is we are deep and that means with the right coach the schemes are endless like no one saying mavericks can go small as well as big not to many teams can switch it up

I think the previous matchups play a big role in why the public likes Minnesota. It is much easier to discount a win against a young thunder team than the MVP and defending champs. That along with what Nick said creates a clear narrative. Mavs in 5 tho
Dallas has big ego problems they think the team is so good will beat anybody. I don't see that fire and hunger from Dallas, they are just happy to advance. Minnesota they are on FIRE 🔥 HUNGARY to win, not just win but take care of the business like no one can.

Legs clarified on the ALL City podcast that he understands why Minnesota is a favorite, to win the finals, however he thinks the Mavs have the answers to the Timberwolves defense. He doesn't think they have a great defender for Luka because of his size and strength and understanding of the game.
Yea in the one game Dallas won (the only game Kyrie played) the Mavs finish the game on a 15-2 run (3 min 30 seconds). It will truly be a series of incredible runs in my opinion. High energy play and a lot of aggressive defense. Dallas and Minnesota were both very physical to end the year and this should be a bloodbath of a series.
I think it’s because of the inconsistencies of the regular season. Also ppl underestimating how much that trade deadline helped and elevated the core of the team. They see 5 seed and instantly dismiss, but they don’t discuss the multiple injuries and the trades and what not that happened during the reg season. This is fine tho because I believe after this playoffs the mavs will have a great reg season next year. Looking forward to that.

Anyway, I picked Mavs... but its really gonna be tough - Luka not being 100% in this series is a problem. He needs to open things up for others, he needs to force doubles so catch and shoot guys and lob guys are able to do their thing. I Jaden can play Luka single coverage theres no chance to win.
There are a lot of other aspects, but this is the main 1 for me.
Also how D-live handles true bigs - wolves have 3 of them, will this series be better for Gafford or he gets overmatched.
We need THJ in this series to have a real chance - hes the only 1 on the bench that can really create for himself and shoot off the dribble from 3 or if hes chased off the 3 from the midrange.
Of course big question is - Maxie, if or when is he coming back, if hes there from the start that could help a lot in this matchup.
On the other side of the ball - how will we slow down Ant - similar to what I said about Luka, if Ant can hunt Kyrie or Luka and force doubles that could crack Mavs D. Though I trust Lukas playmaking and controlling pace and reading D... but only if hes healthy...
I still dont fear Rudy, I think we can play him off the floor. But Naz could be problem - He shoots, drives, hes active on the boards, Reid-Kat combo is much more dangerous.
If Im being real wolves are a better team, Mavs need to outsmart them, exploit every little thing we can. And if Luka is not at 100% , Kyrie needs to revive hes championship mojo from finals against GSW.
Also big question is who has the best player - at this moment, all things considered, Its Ant (with Luka hobbled ).
Lot of things need to go our way.
Series could go either way. Tilt is toward Timberwolves with home court and ability to win on the road at the same time mostly because of their defense and overall player length including the bench depth. If Mavs are going to rely on two players to deliver, the Wolves will take them out. The Mavs need bench to show up and then have a chance. In watching the Wolves and Nuggets series the Wolves defense will shut down a big two and leave it to the other teammates and bench to try and pull off the scoring. I think the biggest challenge with the Wolves is the depth of their bench.
Even if you considered us evenly matched (and that would hinge on Luka and maybe Kleber's health), Minny has home court. That is enough to give them the advantage.
Back in 2011, no one believed either.
Mavs fan here... Before the regular season ended I thought the easiest and most preferable 1st round opponent for the Mavs is the Wolves.. Before the playoffs ranking difficulty I had Denver most difficult then Clippers, OKC, Wolves.

Kyrie will look more normal this series against the TWolves bc OKC were constantly doubling Kyrie and I think the Wolves won't that bc KAT and Golbert will be running out of gas due to the running from the constant rotations.
I believe they'll utilize the same strategies against us which is limit the 3s and funnel us to their bigs, so I can see LuKai cooking, in terms of getting in a rhythm from their shooting similar to how SGA got into a consistent rhythm bc we would rather him cook us 1-on-1 with contested middy's than get beat by their 3pters, which killed us in Game 1 against the OKC.
Running out of gas you’re crazy man. They rotate their bigs. They don’t care about the score Naz Reid will play his 20-25minutes. Gobert And Towns are under 40 minutes per game. Towns will Always have foultrouble that’s why. Overall Only ANT play more than 40 minutes. And Finch won’t have a problem to bench Gobert if he’s crap.
I think that the Mavericks will win this series in 6 games. The reason why Im saying that is bevause both defenses have played outstanding on both sides and this is gonna be which star(s) stepped up in the biggest moments. I also think that Maxi Kleber is gonna be important for this series against Minnesota because you can go small with PJ at the 5 and Maxi at the 4 or you can pair Maxi either with Gafford or Lively so that you can go big.
Fully healthy Luka and Maxi - one hell of a series.
80% Luka and no Maxi - I still believe - we will need all the role players and Kyrie to be as good as they can be.

T’Wolves won the regular season series against the Mavs, but that was w/o Kai (except for 1 game) and D Gafford/PJ Washington were mid-season trades.
It’ll be a different look for the Mavs facing the T’Wolves in this WCF series.

As a Slovenian, I might see another narrative... the American media might be (regardless of the legendary, amazing, and world-respected American openness and readyness to embrace everyone that contributes, regardless of their background) fed up with non-American MVPs and would like to have a true American Hero(tm) on the NBA piedestal to worship again, and Anthony Edwards seems to be the best candidate to fit the bill right now... So, some people here in Slovenia like to say that Luka and consequientially the Mavs might face a much steeper battle than if, for example, Luka was a Black kid form Detroit or something... I still believe in American fairness. Keep on being awesome, Chris! Go Mavs! Cheers!

Mavs are 1 out of 11 in game 1s because the rosters the Mavs have been putting out for over a decade have never been the more talented roster than the opponent. Bad management explains everything.
Hypothesis: Another low-key reason "nobody" is picking the Mavericks may be that "nobody" really WANTS the Mavericks to win vis-a-vis Anthony Edwards. And that has quite a bit to do with both Luka and Kyrie.
The less decisive factor is that Kyrie and the media haven't been on great terms for a long time.
The more important factor is that a lot of folks in the media are salivating at the mouth of finally taking the league back from the Euros. Jokic and Giannis are down for the count. Now, nothing would make them happier than to crown Anthony Edwards the new "Euro-Killer" and finally put an American (him or Tatum) back on top of the league.
IF the Wolves beat the Mavs, they're going to heave most of the praise to Anthony Edwards, all-but entirely disregarding that the biggest reason for their win will likely be the Defense designed and captained by another widely hated Euro in the lanky Frenchman.
That said, if Luka is anywhere near 80-85%: Mavs in 6, after losing another feel-out game 1. 😎
The good news is Dallas is better than they were two years ago and Minnesota isn’t the Warriors. It should be a close series. Still don’t know why what worked against Gobert in Utah doesn’t work now that he’s in Minnesota. He nor KAT can guard jump shooters on the perimeter and we have good ones in Luka, Kyrie and friends. When they play together make them come out and guard the shooter while the other runs back to the rim. Seems simple.

They only look athletsm as the superior tools to win NBA championship. They thought Dallas was soft because of Luka, well Luka prove them wrong again because he is not only great in offensive ends but excellent defensively in positioning and the closing in on shooters. In fact, he surprise the Clippers and OKC when they tried to focus their attack mode on him and backfired on them because it resulted to steals, blocks, deplections and turneovers.
