      Bowie was a true gentleman. Morrissey bitched at Bowie after their tour (Morrissey being a lil bitch obviously) and Bowie in return covered his song. So classy. Morrissey aint worthy tying Bowie's shoelaces.
      "Bowie was relevant in the 70s, now...not so much" Morrissey.
      Not only it's not true but it oozes jealousy. And the saddest thing is year after year M becomes more and more shit filled. I don't even know if he needs help or a bitch slap...should I feel sorry for him or angry? Spiteful, racist, sad little man who would be nothing without the Smiths. He did release 2 good solo albums, I'll give him that..
      And now a question: is there at least one person left in this world who still respects M? It's a serious question... because even my brother who used to be a hc M fan now simply cannot stand his guts and even denies ever liking him lol

    David Bowie covered this as a gift to Morrissey, and sung it in that style because he knew Morrissey loved the Ziggy Stardust era. Morrissey himself was deeply moved by the gesture.

      November girl................A morrissey "original" song that was in fact written mostly by Mick Ronson based on Bowie's Rock n Roll suicide which Ronson suggested he wrote...and Bowie took credit for. That should clarify it a bit better :)

    • @420-blaze-it

    • @Johnnywhamo
      @Johnnywhamo 7 лет назад +7

      He didn't "act" like he wrote it, when you write music and produce an album sometimes your band member comes up with what ends up being a big part of the sound of that song. The artist still wrote the song. Now in this case who knows how much was written by whom but it was Bowie s albums at the end of the day and I'm sure if Bowie had of been asked he would have said, "actually Mick had a huge part in the that song" at the time though he wasn't as generous but he was young.

    Mick Ronson produced Your Arsenal, the Morrissey album the song is from a year before this. It lifts "Rock n' roll suicide". Ronson told Morrissey to not worry about copyright issues, as he wrote the chords for that song.

    • @ivankaramasov

    A lot of people think Morrissey is better...what the hell? I know it's his song, but if you're gonna have song that pretty, you better be prepared to sing the crap out of it! Omg Bowie has an orgasmic voice how can you beat that? And even if you could, could you beat the feeling that he put into it? You could but come on, you'd have to actually try. He has a good voice and eveything, but I vote BOO in this case. Bowie is better and I'm not just saying that because I'm a fan, I got feeling out of his, and not Morrisseys.

      You both have it all wrong. Read Morrissey's book. They were quite fond of each other. I was at this very gig in Manchester - just because you don't mention someone - it doesn't mean you don't love them.

    • @bawoman
      @bawoman 7 лет назад +8

      Bolshevik TV you dont mention your biggest idol on a list of artists that died that year? How does that work? Also are we forgetting all the shitty things Moz said about Bowie later on and that a few years back Bowie refused to let him use a picture of them together he wanted to use for the cover of an album? Morrisey may have been talented at some point but hes a human shit stain and Bowie knew it

    • @BolshevikTV

      Bowie wasn't his biggest idol. In his book he bangs on about the New York Dolls far more.

      That's what I say, Melissa Kelly. My older brother was introduced to Bowie while this album ('Black Tie, White Noise') was being 'mixed down' (final mix). That makes him one of the first people on the planet to hear Bowie's version of this, even before Morrissey.

    • @romanticandperky
      @romanticandperky 8 лет назад +1

      Yes, Melissa: My older brother was actually in the studio with David Bowie when he first heard his version of this song. Five years later, bro found himself on stage performing for the Clintons at Bill's second inaguaral. He sang the blues for them.

      It's more then that, luck: There's something supernatural about it. Five years after meeting Bowie, and hearing his version of this song, my brother found himself on stage at the second Clinton inaguaral, singing the blues.

    • @romanticandperky
      @romanticandperky 6 лет назад +1

      Correction, Melissa: The song that Bowie was working on, from the 'Black Tie, White Noise' album, when my brother was introduced to him was 'Pallas Athena', not this one (honest mistake; sorry about that). I also had a couple of very close friends who worked for Bowie back during the 80s (they were 'roadies'). 'Pallas Athena' only contains one line: "G-d's on top of it all." Also, at the time my brother met him, David had just gotten a new tattoo (which he showed to my brother). It was on his left ankle; a cattle's skull, and written around it in Japanese was the 'serenity prayer': "G-d grant me the grace to accept with serenity that which I cannot change; the courage to change what should be changed, and the wisdom to know the difference." Yes, Melissa: G-D!

    Great story about this song. Bowie covered Morrissey's version because it was so similar to the Ziggy era's "Rock and Roll suicide", so Bowie wasn't about to let Moz get away with it. So this song is almost a cover of a cover, and Morrissey was moved to tears about it.

      Your Arsenal was produced by ex-Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson. When Morrissey pointed out the resemblance of this song to the Thin White Duke's Glam Rock classic "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide," Ronson replied: "I wrote that original piece for Rock 'n' Roll Suicide, so they won't be any legal, comeback."

    "He was so important to me because his vocal melodies were so strong and his appearance was so confrontational. Manchester, then, was full of boot boys and skinheads and macho-macho thugs, but I saw Bowie's appearance as the ultimate bravery. To me, it took guts to be David Bowie, not to be a shit-kicking skinhead in a pack. It also seemed to me that his impact was bigger than punk, because he was a one-man revolution."

You're my friend and I think your music is trying to tell me something. You said this planet is for the kids and I'm one of the kids. Though I'm 42 years old, I was in high school when you said that to Arsenio. Anyway, your music guides me and you have been an angel. Your music never gets old and still applies to us. Even though the songs are old, the facts in them are not. I applaud everything you've done and helped us with. I consider you my friend and I love you. You're so special to us and you've shown us that we should never give up on our dreams or anything. Way to go. I'm proud of you. After 6 decades, you deserve to rest. Rest fellow Capricorn. I will always listen to your music and try to provide what I can to people. I've already made tons of contributions in my life, but there's never enough as long as you're alive and feel like giving.

    The irony of Bowie doing this Morrissey song is that the song Morrissey co-wrote with Mark Nevin is clearly influenced by Bowie's own "Rock and Roll Suicide", the closing song on the "Ziggy Stardust..." album.

    It's funny how he samples his own music to add to someone else's song that is copying his style. Only Bowie could do that.

      @@George-jo9kg - Evan actually was "respecting the legend." You may want to re-read his comment. He is clearly saying that Bowie's voice was not underrated, but quite the contrary, it was always considered one of the top 10 voices in all of rock. (Although Bowie himself claimed to not really like his own voice.)

    One of the rarer latter day Bowie vocals where he's at the top of his range throughout the track... pulls this off amazingly well, no doubt, but I wish he had started a key or two lower, then shifting to this upper key to bring it home...

    take it easy, i know they are not live. i think the cover sticker says "studio performance videos", or something like that. and by "not music videos" i mean they weren't meant to be shown on MTV, and you won't find it on any music video compilations. it was all filmed (along with 5 other tracks) for this one particular documentary "On Saturday May 8, 1993, at the Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles". if you want to see a not "cheap and silly" video, whatch the jump they say video by romanek.
