i think your definition of a "light coat" needs just a little adjustment. the first pillow was a heavy coat, or full wet. the second was a medium coat, or wet. a light, or dry coat is like a dusting. and remember your distance (6" to 8") and the speed of motion should be consistent. painting, whether aerosol or compressed, is not as easy as the cans say it is.

I’m wondering if acrylic paint would stick to it. Like for a design.

Yes! You probably need to add a fabric medium to the acrylic paint to make it more flexible. See more details here; repurposeandupcycle.com/can-you-use-acrylic-paint-on-fabric/

Would a "primer" coat of a darker color help to hide the contrasting stripes? After the first primer coat, the contrast of the stripes would not be so obvious, and it may have required FEWER coats of the final blue color.

Yes you are right a darker color would definitely help hide the stripes!

The cost to paint is more than the pillow !

Better off just buying a cushion cover for it. Would of cost about $15 for the set.

You’re missing the point. The point is showing how well it does or doesn’t work. Some people may want to use it on something else outdoors aside from just a cushion. IJS
