Will you feel the same way once the series has ended and by the time the figure comes out? Do you need the expensive figure or would you be satisfied with a prize figure or Nendoroid? Do you have the space for figures (and their boxes) or will you have to make room for them? I love most of mine but there's still some that I bought and now just don't care about the characters and series (Fairy Tail for example) and struggle to sell on.

Great tips! Only one I knew beforehand was tip #5, so gained a lot from the video. On the topic of pre-ordering, it’s worth emphasizing that buyers need to establish their own rules for what characters/series are dear enough to them that the purchase will be treasured. As soon as that’s worked out, immediately pre-order what falls within those rules. It may well be your first and final chance to get the items; and as mentioned in the video, PVC figures become damaged the longer they’re kept in the box. So you’ll not only be paying scalpers a small fortune, but possibly getting a lower quality item. Know yourself, be proactive, and have fun.
I'm kinda torn about your advice #5. For me it totally depends on the brand. I preorder a lot but not from everyone. For example there is no need to preorder from Kotobukiya since they are always available on the after market and with barely any price increase even years after release. But I would always preorder for Good Smile Company because their whole system is based around artificial shortage of figures, they are rightfully a popular brand with good quality, and the price for their figures usually increases by a lot within the first few months after release. But then there are brands where I wait to see how the product turned out in the end because I don't trust them, an example for that would be Fots Japan. To summarize, I preorder from popular brands that are going to be sold out right away and got a reputation of being a reliable manufacturer. I don't preorder where I have no faith in the finished product looking like the prototype or where there were many defects reported in the past. Even though there is a tendency across all companies atm to really step up in quality and raise the figure price in exchange (which is fair). Personal totally biased recommendation: Always preorder: Good Smile Company, Aniplex, Flare, QuesQ, Broccoli, Wing, Alter, Stronger, Aquamarine, Freeing, Alphamax, Alpha x Omega, Volks, Revolve, Amakuni. Maybe preorder, maybe not: Phat, Vertex, Orca Toys, Emon Toys, Myethos, Toy's Works, Max Factory, Wave. Don't preorder: Kotobukiya, Plum, Fots Japan, Megahouse, Bell Fine, Genco, Lincorne, Pulchra, Orchid Seed, Insight. (obviously I left out companies that ran out of business... I hope lol)

I started buying lots of smaller figures before realizing I don't actually have all that much room to maneuver most of them. Once I internalized that, rather than having a bunch sitting in boxes with no space to display them, I started buying less figures but saving up to buy really good ones. That way I could have a fancier display in the limited room I have.

I've been collecting for 8 years and you're still teaching me stuff 😅 My tips: with some Nendoroids if you can't tell whether a part goes on the left or right side, look very closely at the connector and there should be a tiny R or L to tell you. If there's nothing, then either side should work. 2nd tip, more of an FYI, I've noticed that the connection from the figure to the base tends to be the weakest point. I've had a few instances where a figure will stick to the base peg, leading to damage or a break. It might be beneficial to let the figure outgas off its base for a while before putting it together.

i initially didn't want to open my phantom thief futaba til i got a display case for dust reasons, but when I found out the box didn't have a display window, I had no choice. which is why I was very surprised by tip #1. thanks for that!
I used IKEA BARKHYTTAN Display boxes for displaying my figures. I only kept 4 - 5 figures on display in my room to display them like an artwork. Some antique glass boxes are good too, but they don't match my room style.
Wish I could do the preorder thing, but I prefer to try my luck instead and buy in this one physical store especialized in anime figures I know that's an hour from home....I can see how the figure actually looks like in front of me, and I don't have to worry about broken pieces. But yeah, just going there and pray that they have something I actually want is kinda sad ... good thing I'm planning for my collection to be a small one for now (3 so far, and aiming to get only one or two more due to space).

A big tip which i made a video on is to use a very helpful website Solaris Japan where you can buy used figures that go up and sometimes very low in price and almost always look like they haven't even been opened
i keep most of my boxes,but i'm very careful with some of my ALTER figures cause theyre plastic rectangers and not really boxes in the conventional sense lol
I have to disagree on the last one, sometimes I found myself cancelling figures I decided I don't want, and a lot of sites will restrict/ban you if you keep cancelling.
So I have two figmas with a few parts that I don’t use, so I put those in a tiny plastic bag so they don’t get lost. But as you said, that could damage them. So how do I keep those spare parts? Is it enough to just leave the bag slightly open?
If you can go over the figures every two months or so with a soft brush they stay nice and clean even on open shelves. You don't have to do them all on one day. You will also note how figures that have a lot of surface from let's say dresses or hats will collect more dust than others.

Collections don't start overnight, save up your money a little a time and start small with quality figures you LOVE! You'll get there, I have been collecting for over 14 years, I didn't start with all these to begin with!
So how long is too long to keep figures in their boxes? I've started collecting figures this year, and have been keeping them in their boxes because I have no where to put them otherwise till I move into a new place in the future where I can set up shelves and such. im poor guy . so i collecting used / bootlegs figure .. with 110$ now i had 13 figures pvc . Saber SQ Banpresto ,asuza nakano 5.1 spm , black rock shooter black blade version , shiro no game no life and many more .. even bootlegs have good quality and still good to see too.
My advice: never start collecting figures... it will ruin your bank account LOL

The box thing concerns me a little. With Figmas I usually order two and leave one sealed in case I ever lose a part or break a joint.
