As another Aussie I totally get the whole “buying it because it’s all I can get” thing. I don’t collect figures but I definitely bought a lot of manga I wasn’t into just because I was able to.
I'm from New Zealand i get the same feeling but its harder to fine nice local figures, does anyone know of any New Zealand figure unboxing channels.?

if you need some help with buying certain items, kaika and anime at abbotsford are my favourite shops down here for anime stuff. kaika has more goods, but the staff at anime at abbotsford are really helpful ^_^ but yeah,, i do impulse buy a lot of manga and art books bc “oh, they have this here? guess i have to get it!” lmao. curse you kinokuniya

I am proud to say that it's been 7 years since I started collecting figures and I don't regret buying any of my figures. Well, I do have a pretty small collection. I strictly follow these three rules when it comes to figure collecting:
1- I only buy figures of characters that I love. NO EXCEPTIONS.
2- I don't buy a figure just because it is a character I love. I need to love the look of the figure as well. For example, I like Kurisu a lot, but there isn't a figure of her that I'm completely satisfied with at the moment (just my opinion)
3- Let's say I love the look of a figure and I love the character as well. I still won't buy it if the price is insane. For example, I'd love to own Rin Tohsaka -Unlimited Blade Works- figure from Good Smile Company, but the aftermarket price is just crazy. (fingers crossed it gets a rerelease at some point...)
Same. Oh those 200$ ones look amazing but for a statue it’s a little difficult for me to swallow so more recently it’s been the pop up parades since I don’t look to closely and they look pretty good for their price.
As someone with a smaller collection, I love hearing people’s rules for figure buying. It’s a great way to frame my future purchases.
I literally bought figures of characters I love but never seen the anime like re zero I'm only on like episode 2-3 but I love the twins so I own figures of them
I have such a small collection I’ve seen all the anime’s at least once. I don’t even like apocrypha nor am I really a fate fan but I bought astolfo when I saw one in store within my price range. At that point I hadn’t even seen a fate series let alone apocrypha but you gotta love a femboy.
Biggest regret was buying figures at cons before I learned to recognize bootlegs. I have a gnarly Sebastian knock off nendoroid and a scale of Kuroyukihime from Accel World. Can't even sell them because I refuse to put bootlegs back out in the market 😭
I hate that feeling of wanting to love a figure SO much and then just not and staring at it every day trying to convince yourself you love it more than you do. I'm sure you can get a great price for Jeanne when you're ready to part with her!

Your point about lying to yourself about liking a figure because you wanted to like it really resonates with me. When I see figures and merch for an anime I love which doesn't seem to have much merch I am so tempted to buy it, but then I really have to consider whether I actually like the item or if there just isn't anything better available to choose from.
As a new figure collector I really appreciate this video! Your reflections on why you regret them and the lessons you've learned are really helpful, especially with regards to characters I love but just don't love the figures.
I can easily see myself wanting to buy a figure just because I want a new figure. But one thing I always do when I online shop is that unless I it’s a mass rush sale if I like something I wait on buying it. If I still like it after a couple days I’ll buy it but if I forget about it and remember later than it wasn’t meant to be. I also am picky and so there’s a lot of characters I like but if the face ain’t cute idc if their my favorite character I’m not spending $100+. I can spend that on something else.
Most of the figures I’ve collected as a kid were “figures I buy because I can”… lol
I just recently got my first nendroid and it was the breath of the wild link one he’s currently displayed by by tv on his horse in kind of a battle styled pose and I love him
I had the exact feeling you had with Jeanne with Merlin… I’ve sold him now but it was a disaster trying to sell him as his figure flopped a lot more. It’s always interesting to hear why people regret their purchases as well.
As someone who started collecting a bit more this year these are really good lessons to keep in mind. Nice video as usual! 👏
I really can relate to this video, I had some of the same regrets and feelings about some of the figures I have purchased over the years. It is nice to know that I am not the only one and others have the same type of issues. Thanks for the good work.

That moment when the character you bought is part of a set (talking to you love live) but you don’t like a character/character’s outfit but now you kinda have to buy it cause it’ll annoy you so much to have one missing and you’re just sitting there like 👁💧👄💧👁

My regret purchases are usually "character I love, but figure I don't like the pose/design of" and "pose/design concept I love, but executed poorly". After a while you realize that it is important that you like the whole end product, and not just half of it. I also have some 18+ mature figures that looked great with a huge censor glow spot, but become a bit too obscene in reality.
And I also buy way too many tapestry. Even when plastering all my walls, I can't even put up 10% of what I got.
Gotta say it's more a rule of thumb that the figure is peak in the promotional image, I have had a few rare exceptions to the rule where they came in and it was just like a total wow! moment. Also loved seeing the Mushoku clip with the figure and Roxy's face haha

One figure I looked into was the native aoba figure because at the time, I didn't have money nor I knew where to get figures so I looked for people seeing it to get an idea of the price and then
I saw how the final figure turned out in comparison with the prototype and have never feel to disappointed and betrayed. I admired that figure for years just to find out the downgrade but at first look you don't find those pics, so I'm glad I didn't spend the money because it would have been an instant regret. If there is a thing I have always been picky about figures even before wanting to collect them is the face and hair

I’d have to say that some of the figures I regret buying/spending money trying to get are 3 that I got from Toreba the crane app game. They were a Zero Two, Kaoru, and Joker prize figures. I guess the one I don’t regret getting from there is the Hatsune Miku spring uniform version from Taito since that one’s very cute. Also I’m interested to see if Gwyncollects or Animebae have any regret buys, but I feel like Animebae had some in her 1 hour sorting video. Great video and some of your choices I saw beforehand and some I did not which was interesting. Keep up the great work! ☺️👍
My biggest regret was buying a kencolle nendoriod, watched the anime but wasn’t enough into the series or the character I bought to justify it. Still sealed in the corner of my room 4 years later
I have plenty of KanColle, but the sad reality is that since there are so many ships, naturally my favorite ships never really got figures so I only really have "Kind of like" characters and not characters I love.
I recently started collecting figures a few months ago, I am mostly just getting nendoroid characters from shows/games I love! I have sorta branched out getting different types of figures like Pop Up Parade. If work gives me a large bonus one day I’ll perhaps get my first scale figure but not now

I’ve had a couple of figures that I’ve pre-ordered that when they came, I found that the face was a little messed up, or the base was really bad; basically things you can’t foretell unless you’re buying unboxed figures bc of QC

I definitely have some buyer's regrets with some of my cheaper figures; my biggest disappointment was my GSC Lio Fotia breaking and it left me feeling so salty towards GSC for getting a faulty figure. Now I am more careful about buying cheap just to have a "collection". Thankfully though I haven't been disappointed with my pricier figures.
Jalter def has the problem of having chunky hair in her sprites that look attached on rather than it being her actual hair, which is why I like her earlier short hair ascensions better. Excited to see the room tour!
Hi! I'm new to your channel and I instantly love it. I agree with you a lot when it comes to mindless collecting since you will regret some of them later on. I'm a gunpla fan and I've already sold lots of kits that I bought when I started.
I find the Link thing so interesting because toon Link was my first Nenderoid and I actually have a bit of buyer's remorse with him. He didn't come with a lot of pieces and he is difficult to pose. He is with my BotW Link and I feel like he is so out of place. I can never really find a good way to display him like I can my other nenderoids. Windwaker was my favorite game so I want to love him. I also probably won't ever sell him because he has been with me for so long but I wish he wasn't so awkward.

Can you maybe make a video about the selling process of the figures once you find buyers of those figures you don’t want anymore? Like always use PayPal, what site, getting and packing the box, shipping and for how much can we sell them? I have maybe a couple of figures that I would like to sell but I’m worried I would mess something up and lose the figure and not even get the money as I’ve never sent anything to anyone and definitely not outside my country.

So RUclips recommended this video to me and I enjoy it and I think I'm going to sub to you, but I do have some thoughts of what you just showed us-so I understand the regrets of buying something and when I'm buying figures I'm thinking really hard before I actually buy something because it IS pricey and I don't want to buy something that I don't absolutely love with the thinking that maybe I will resell it because I think that's just extra hustle and I don't want to deal with that plus I get attached to stuff so selling them, specially if it's like a favorite character, it's going to be hard but the thing is with this mindset is that if I don't absolutely love something there's a chance and quite big one that I wouldn't buy it BUT if you like fandoms that hardly get any type of figure or mentioning or any type of actual fun merch it feels like I am giving up on merchandise that I can never get my hands on again because they hardly make anything anyway! so it's like I need to either not buy it and regret not buying it or buying it and deal with not Perfection and with sometimes shity face or crap details that I know are shity and it annoys me but it's like, what can I do??

I think the last one is the matter of preference.
I like figures with long and flowing hair, they are more aesthetically pleasing to me.
But it doesn't have to be like for other people.
I love long hair too. If the figure has short hair I won't consider buying her.
As I’ve learned in figure collecting I only get ones I really want now instead of just buying random figures.
Yo, Bakuretsu got ACTUAL Rin to show up in your video? Hype!....I have a similar "Jeanne Alter" situation. I bought the bare leg Milim FREEing bunny (in the same order was Shion, also from Slime isekai and all her Detolf slaying glory, my wallet wept for 2 weeks)....and like, I love her but....she's not the premium version so.....yeah, she's just "settling for good enough" for now.
I feel this pain lol. I just moved to a new place and am currently sitting next to my towers of figure boxes. And a couple of those towers are figures that I want to sell... (the BOTW Link Nendo is in that pile for me too 😅)

I am also a big fan of Kurisu, but I just can't get myself to buy any of her figures except for the Freeing B-Style figure which I have on order.
The bunny figure looks awesome, but idk... her character in the show has such skinny legs and no butt. I am a little worried the bunny figure just won't capture her essence and I will be left wanting for another more faithful figure.
Good advice there. Do you (or anyone in the comments) have any tips of which method is best for selling figures (eg mfc, eBay)? The time will come when I may/will cull my collection and selling the ones I like less will be the thing to do. I do hope when I sell a figure it'd go to someone who would care for it, although that's something beyond my control, I guess.

I started collecting this April.. I currently have 20 scale figures and 42 figures all together. I did regret like 8 nendos that arent in my collection anymore. But I thats because I realized scale figures are beyond any nendo in my opinion. And honestly I saw a bunch of people preordering new figures coming out and everyone seems so excited about some I just couldnt get behind, If your gut says you dont like it then dont try to force yourself to understand or give in to hype that doesnt make you feel anything period , I understand that. But i totally bought one I didnt care for too much so oops

I kinda regret getting the Aniplex 1/7 scale figure of Ishtar when I would be totally okay with just the Nendoroid. She’s really fragile and always falls off from that chair she uses to “float” on. I ended up breaking her arrow thing when she fell one evening and I tried fixing it but just ruined it more out of frustration. Still paying for her to this day. I’m still thinking about getting another one if she gets rereleased since Ishtar’s one of my favorite servants from the FGO anime and this figure’s really good if not for the chair.
ive just started collecting figured a couple months ago and i feel like some of those lessons are something i should listen to. especially the whole "dont buy figures youre not 100% sure about just because theyre all you can get" one. i work right by the mall in my town and in the mall theres a store that sells a lot of figures so its a store ive found myself going to a lot to see if they have any new figures. the majority of the figures ive bought there i absolutely do *not* regret, and hell i have 7 miku figures now and only 2 of them i didnt buy there, and i love all of them. i love the iroha figure i got there. however, i bought a madoka figure there that i just dont like. i bought her because i love madoka and she was there but upon opening here i was just. *not* impressed. so far that figure is he only one i regret buying. even the *other* madoka figure i bought that i refuse to touch unless absolutely necessary because she falls apart so easily i dont regret buying. i have the first madoka figure on display, but i would not waste a tear putting her away
I'd buy the Kirusu Statue off of you, the pose is super dynamic and the swappable face is also really cute.

I agree with you about the Kurisu figure so much. Her pose and base is great, but her face is just off... and you didn't mention this, but I think her body proportions are also off. The GSC figure is way better in that regard. I mean, yeah, they made her skinny, but the Wing Kurisu looks too tall and her build just looks kinda masculine to me. She is TINY in the anime. I don't think the Wing figure did a good job on that.

Disliking a figure for space constrict is a problem that many would be envious of. Most of us do not have enough figures for that to be a problem. While I am running out of shelving, I also have plenty of empty room in my room for additional shelving.
I like Jalter plenty and did consider buying that one, but decided on the nice big set by Licorne instead. I feel if I'm gonna have one Avenger Jalter(also getting the berserker), it should be a "proper" one.
I also considered getting the Shifuku ver. Because I like Salter a lot more and it would have been a nice set(I ship jalter and salter!). But finally decided to pass as I really need to cut back on fate figures. I already have 4 salter (including those that are not here yet).
I regret buying one of the Collector Editions of FFXV that came with the Noctis figure off a scalper on Ebay back in the day. I won the bidding war for about $400. The hinge of the steel case had a slight crack so I was always scared of opening/closing it. And after beating the vanilla game, with all the controversy of it being unfinished, and the price of the game discounted to oblivion I regret bidding for it due to the hype.

Oh no. Your problem with Kurisu figure is the same issue I'm having with the upcoming Belldandy statue this July. I just want one of her figure which is super rare, I also missed the bunny ones. Now, the figure stand and everything about t is beautiful.... Except her face. It looks off. 😭

Only regret is the ultimate madoka figure by good smile company. Main reason I brought her what the price of 6000 yen which is a deal and in the pictures it looked pretty great. However, the bit piece on plastic that attaches her to the base was completely broken exposing the two metal prongs after a few minutes of me fiddling trying to make it not lean. Solved it with superglue but then found out it's too tall for my shelves so currently, it's in its box

O/T- who is the bunny girl on the banner behind you over your right shoulder? I know exactly what you mean by buying regret... I have a few i need to put up for sale - just really, like "why did I buy this"? sigh.
The only figure I've ever regret buying was a Fate Stay Night Archer figma. At this point I hadn't been collecting for that long, maybe a few months back in 2014. But for the $59.99 I paid for it I expected something of equal quality. The overall size of the figure was pretty disappointing, but what really turned me off was how easily his arms would snap out of socket when trying to push the blades into his hands, and they would hardly ever stay in properly. It was so bad that I've never bought another figma since then, even for characters I really wanted.

I make sure to really want a figure before I buy it I have one single figure and that is a chocola pop up parade figure since I don't have alot of money to spend on figures I bought chocola in May and haven't bought an other one yet but I am considering buying a levi figma when it re releases
this just sorta cemented the regret i feel for the kotobukiya Edward Elric 1/8 i have on the way. fma is my favorite anime and i already have the Roy from the same set, so it made complete sense to buy Ed as well...
except he's already vertically challenged in the show, a 1/8 scale and posed kneeling down. plus his base is inferior to the roy from the same set and a limited alternate version that wasn't reissued :/ maybe i'll like him better in person (although that sentiment's probably missing the point of the video entirely lol)
One of the only figures I like better then the prototype is the Yumeko Jabami bunny figure. She looks soooo good in person but she looks kinda derpy in the prototype lol

How you said in your video, Jeanne Alter figure is gorgeous but something seems off. In my case I think it's the dress color. That blue color doesn't match with her hair and base so there are many different colors there. A black dress (like her armor) could be better choice.

Unfortunately you can't lessen that version of Jeanne's hair, it's perfectly in line with the specific art that figure is based on. That would lead inaccuracy complaints. I do prefer her shorter hair especially with the fur cloak.

i only have one "real" figurine from jojo - its jotaro with his stand like half coming out and around him. i dont know if ill ever get really into collecting but if i ever do, itll have to be only characters i really truly love

Damn, I was kinda sad that you regret buying a kurisu makise figure. If I was born much more earlier in my life, I would’ve collected all of the steins gate merch. Sadly, all of the series merch are much more expensive now and very scarce 😔

I think I know the vibe of guilt from wanting to like something so bad and beating yourself up for how much money you committed to it and not being able to admit to yourself that you made a mistake.
And I could recognise it in the way you spoke about her. I could hear you trying to convince yourself, more than gushing over something you're in love with.
Sometimes it's avoidable, but others you just don't know how you really feel about it until you face the reality of actually owning it.
I think I can recognise this feeling all too well from growing up in a family with financial issues and trying to hard to love something you want to love.
I've been trying to learn to let go and accept my regrets and move on instead of keeping the thing and letting it gnaw at me and make me really upset.
But that's just another thing in the pile of stuff I'll figure out in therapy one day lmao 😂

There usually is a criteria that makes me or made me buy a figure.
Like for example Azur lane Jean Bart by Wings Co. . I don't even play the mobile game but I played another game that had a collab with it. Hearing her voice overs.
Boom fell in love and bought the figure all the way from Japan to UK.
I just love it.
Same thing for pop up parades Berserk armor. I love the manga and series.
But then there are other figures like from Azur Lane that I have not personally saw yet character wise but the price was so good to pass up and the figures do look good. And cause its already in the UK and it is at msrp price without the 50 gbp delivery and 50 gbp customs tax.
