- After leaving Brisbane, I went south to check out the iconic Gold Coast and Byron Bay regions. New Year was right around the corner so I wanted to ring in the New Year on the beach. Last year, it was fully rained out in Fiji...
I just go through with some fun things to do in the area, keeping a relatively tight budget. Each coast has its distinct charm, people, and lifestyle.

Have just come back to the Uk from the Gold coast and must say it is the most spectacular place on the planet. Byron Bay, Kingscliff, Tambourine mountain, Burleigh Heads, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach etc. what a place.

Coolangatta, Byron Bay, and Spring brook were some of my favorites in the area
2 1/2 hrs from Brisbane to gold coast is not normal. Must have been unlucky and hit train closure due to track works.? Is that why you got on bus?
Yes, it was track work being done and a bus alternative was used to bypass

2 and a half hour journey in Australia? Ure nowhere. I lived there for 6 years. From NW to the East.
The rail line was undergoing maintenence so I had to take a couple buses before getting back on the rail
