Willie Nelson is probably the biggest influence in my life when it comes to music. I'm unfortunate to not have seen him live yet, but hes a big reason I picked up playing guitar. I aspire to be able to see the things and places he's been. Just making music with my friends. Much love willie
@Willie Nelson official fan inbox first time I saw Willie was at a New Year's Eve show in Houston at The Summit - was either 1979 or 1980 and Earl Campbell of the Houston Oilers got up on stage with Willie and sang Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.
Good God what a groove! Smoking fast and no one is breaking a sweat. I bet 95 out of 100 drummers could not tell you who Paul English was and that's a shame. He was simply driving that train, damn anyone who might flip the beat for a few bars, they gotta get back to HIS one. Bee Spears is a but a kid starting out his nearly 40 year tenure in the band, Mickey was new too. My dad had the Family Band Live record on vinyl when I was a little kid and I still have it today. It's as fresh a recording as you can ever hear, not matter the decade you spin it. Legends and American cultural treasures all!
I remember when I was 13. My family took my younger sister to rodeos on weekends. I drove the other family Chevy to Norman Oklahoma while they were gone. Road trips with Willie! I had blisters on both ankles......a pint n each boot! Back when America was bad ass! Shotgun WILLIE still turning it up! Team Willie! TJ
Willie created this so people could sing the way they felt. Legend, no other way to describe him. I saw him in07 in Halifax and when he took to stage I had tears! My brother saw that and patted my back, my legend came to life that day!
Love this mans music. I actually got invited to one of his 4th of July B-B-Q's. Best time ever, we were just a few rows back. And seeings as how we drove our tractors( BIG RIGS) he actually invited us to move a little closer. Do ya'all have any C.D.s of his music, I got one for Christmas and it's gettin' wore pretty slick.
44 years later and song is still a BANGER. Did you see and hear what I just saw and heard? He is one Heck of a live performer and I hope I get to see him live once in my life.
Not anymore he isn’t, his voice has gotten worse with his age. I saw him about 1-2 years ago and he was practically sing talking just about every song. Yes he’s an icon but not worth seeing anymore
Love this era of Willie's music. It was his 1st ACL recording on a little known stage. It was recorded live before an audience of devotion, the backdrop was darkness. Much like the view if you were tostumble out of the entry door and look up. No skyscrapers. No one spoke of, much less understood the idea, of a skyline. Sure enough as the grass grew under their feet, so did the city, which would later be known as Austin City Limits. However, I don't understand how those who helped create/capture these rare moments of Austin music history are the same persons who essentially made a black and white decision of converting the artform it so diligently held under its wing, would later convert into a form of collateral. CASE IN POINT: WILLIE NELSON, AUSTIN, TX, 1974: An incredible audio/video capturing of an artist who had flown, molted, migrated returned to his birth waters. Anyone who has seen the videos pulled from the public's eye know well what I refer to. Anyone who had the fortune of seeing Willie play in the back grass of the Armadillo WHQ's after closing hours, will know what I speak of. THE LOVE OF MUSIC AND HISTORY< PLEASE RE-RELEASE THE FULL RECORDING OF WILLIE'S FIRST ACL PERFORMANCE!!!!! I have NEVER heard a more beautiful version of "A Song For You" and it hurts my heart I can't share it with anyone because ACL chose to turn art into collateral by pulling it from the public and releasing a squandered version found on a DVD sent to those who contribute at or beyond a certain threshold. *Note: The DVD I refer to, and once sent out to ACL contributors, is now available on Amazon Prime members. However, Willie's version of "A Song For You" is not presented in its entirety. Rather, it is used as stage prop for a political purpose neither the performers nor the original creators of ACL ever imagined as they looked over the Colorado River later to be known as Town Lake.
Because classical guitars like that aren’t meant to be played with a pick, they are supposed to be plucked finger style. Since there is no pick guard, it just got worn down more and more every time he played it.
❤❤ willie Nelson ,you have written so many beautiful song’s that will live in our hearts forever ! Thank you so very much!! You will never be forgotten !! ❤❤ 3:30
Enjoyed playing "Bloody Mary Morning" today on my radio show, Miss Holley King’s “Rock-a-billy & BEYOND” “Road Side Special” Show #91 /2 WE LOVE YOU WILLIE
@Willie Nelson official fan inbox My whole life. The radio station I started working at in Wickenburg, AZ was "Golden Country" and we played a lot of Willie, Waylon, Haggard, and more... I was fortunate enough to see "The Last of the Breed tour" in Prescott Arizona back in 2007 with Ray Price.
Unfotunately, ACL decided to use it as collateral to get folks contribute to the cause. I get it, the cause, and have done such myself but not under the gun of ACL. Not right!!!
There were some early shows with Steve Fromholtz, Michael Murphy, Rusty Weir, and Charlie Daniels a lot of folks would love to see again. I also seem to remember an early songwriters roundtable that would be nice to see again also.
absolute fuckin' HEATER of a solo by Mickey. my god, I just keep listening to it for that harmonica. amazing that 50 years later he's doing shows with Billy Strings now.
Willie, obviously picking the hell out of that Martin. And not doing that overdone phony grimacing that some pickers do. AND Willie don't need a capo, ever.
Willie wrote a lot of good music, when he came to Nashville, but he had to let other singers record his songs. Willie had to dig and claw his way up the ladder to success to get Nashville recording studios to give him a chance, as a singer. The same thing happened to Kris Kristofferson and K. T. Oslin. Oh, but these three showed Nashville, what it was about. I wonder how many producer's got so mad they kicked their selves in the a$$, for not giving them a chance.
33 seconds in, the tall guy playing the Tele thinline is punctuating after Willie's voice, tossing off perfect 16th note runs like they're just spraying out of an automatic handgun from a casual squeeze of the trigger. Then around 1:29 they start actually *trying* a little bit to dig in. HOLY GAS PEDAL, batman.
okay, I guess the Mr AK47 is actually Jody Payne, and he started touring at age 15 with Charlie Monroe besides playing with Merle Haggard & the Strangers, Tanya Tucker, Hank Snow.

Matthew McConaughey sorry buddy Willie did it first barely a tyke boy. Must be a Texas thing though cuz there it is clear as a bell all right right all right within the first 5 seconds of the video opening.
So Willie said,”Alright,Alright,Alright”first.
LMFAO 😂😂🤣✌️
Fuck yeah !!!!!!
before David Wooderson...
McConaughey is currently somewhere in a Lincoln, stuck in an existential crisis, now that he's been made. 🤔
Of course he did he's from Texas, just like Matthew Mc is.
It makes me truly sad when I stop and realize that some day soon I will live in a world without Willie

no matter what’s wrong this solo always puts my heart at peace long live willie nelson
That grin on Jody's face while he watches Willie during the solo is priceless.
Agree. Them two loved each other so much.
They’re both high

R. I. P.
Sweet Bobbie
Paul English
Jody Payne 🎸
Bee Speers
Mickey Raphael is one of the best harmonica players ever.
Mickey still looks the same too- he hasn't aged! All still with Willie & sister Bobbie too❤💙
My sense is that BW hated to see Micky go, but he knew that Micky had to follow that opportunity.
AMEN!
This is peak outlaw Willie. Amazing performance and amazing band
The bass player gives an astounding performance throughout, willies solo and the harmonica really bring it all together beautifully
Willie created this so people could sing the way they felt. Legend, no other way to describe him. I saw him in07 in Halifax and when he took to stage I had tears! My brother saw that and patted my back, my legend came to life that day!
Bee Spears tearing it up on bass, what a performance!
Surprised to see how beat down Trigger was in '74, amazed to see it's still hanging on.
That rolling guitar and harmonica part made me feel like I was going somewhere.
On the Wabash Cannonball.
If 'ol Willie keeps pickin' that guitar like that, it ain't ever gonna heal!
Keith's Place
😂👍
Trigger is one tough old horse.
They're smokin. We still have ACL to this day. ♥♥Thank you, Willie.

Jody looking at Willie in complete awe during his solo always gets me, r.i.p Jody Payne
Best rendition ever.
OMG. What a performance..... Willie is our last true fucking legend
I’m trying to learn this song on guitar this song is so awesome
Any closer? It's 3 years so far😅

@@fastlane1205 honestly you may be right but it's worth it to be in the presence of a legend -- we won't have him forever.
Seen him at least a dozen times.
I've seen him 3 times and loved it
Saw Willie 9~9~22 , just the other night at The Outlaw Music Festival. Awesome 👏🏻 show ! LOVE WILLIE & all The Nelson Boys ! 💙🎶🙏🏻🎶

Whew! Willie, lightin' Trigger up!!!!
Damn how is trigger that shredded in 74!?
Because classical guitars like that aren’t meant to be played with a pick, they are supposed to be plucked finger style. Since there is no pick guard, it just got worn down more and more every time he played it.
Never been so impressed by a harmonica
I love this song.
One of my favorite all time songs.👍🏻
That's crazy Willie Nelson was older than I am at this time, and he's still alive
Wow Willy looks like his boy now.
Trigger looks good too!
Talent!

“Road Side Special”
Show #91 /2
WE LOVE YOU WILLIE
It's a killer one of a kind jam and this is the best version on youtube. But it is mis-named... "Bloody Merry Morning" is the song title
In other words, It's a F-ing happy morning

@Willie Nelson official fan inbox Sure! ;o)
Love this song 🔥🔥🔥🔥
At 1:25 willie gives the boys the que, with a suttle “all right” then all hell breaks loose
They said in an interview if you looked at it close you could see willie chipping trigger down with his picking with chips actually flying.
Very disheartened that the rest of this show disappeared. Many heaters for sure.

Paul's wearing his cape!
Those were the days!
Damn. Willie and Trigger really sounding good.
I'd forgotten about this look. I'm used to long hair Willie Nelson.
Red hot!
70 years ago, dude's still alive and singing. Well, I use singing loosely as he more or less is speaking lol, but still mad props.
So fuckin' good!
Everyone in this band is absolutely burning it up

I just got done laughing my ass a this comment
Alright, alright, alright!

Bloody Mary Morning
Willie, obviously picking the hell out of that Martin. And not doing that overdone phony grimacing that some pickers do. AND Willie don't need a capo, ever.

3 benders on Paynes Tele.

I wondered what their exact function is they appear to be all on the treble side
You can tell how old this is, look at "Trigger" not too big a hole in him"

John Hintz
I remember that day. 1966.
No one looked like a liberal in that crowd. What a great place to be.
Does anybody know where I can the find the full concert where this song is from?? I can't find it to buy anywhere on the internet..

Flight Fifty. The Best way to Fly.The Bottom less Bloody Mary's are Better than Virgin Atlantic's!.. and trust me Sir Richard has Great Vodka!..
Was that Frank Costanza's lawyer on drums?
Paul English ... the inspiration for the Song "Devil in a sleepin' bag"
Way to fly 5 o'clock somewhere
At the time the guitar was also in good shape...
Did Matthew just stole the alright alright
Bettie bacall I heard d that too haha
Him,and Jim Dandy.

Anyone wanna try to describe what that tour bus might have smelt like ?
Who's playing the tele on this?

Definitely not.
That's Paul English, like the song, "Me And Paul"..
Why that's "the devil" out of his sleepin' bag of course.

Is walon jennings playing the drums
Yeah these guys smoke weed..
Look at how they dress. Just need the rastafari hat.
Elvis, this dude, and Cash. Fake guitar players. They just pick here and there through a major chord and let the rest of the band handle it
Bloody Mary Morning
It's "Bloody Merry Morning" the uploader mislabeled it
And they continue to get the title incorrect
