My dad bought a box of assorted albums somewhere around 64 or 65, and this and "At the Country Club" were both in there. I don't remember anything else, but I still find myself humming and singing their songs all the time. Got to see them once at the Kentucky State Fair. Was my first concert.
I have a very rare copy of this album which includes Big Bad John as the first song. This song was used to replace Big Bad John and it was obviously recorded in the studio. I posted the Big Bad John version on You Tube.
My dad went to see them in NY once and he bought this album. He loved it especially if he had a few drinks and we always had to play it for him. He knew the whole album by heart.
I happened across a worn copy of this record at a thrift store. The cover was in pretty poor shape, and the slipsheet inside was split on two sides. It was priced at 50 cents, but it was a half-off day so I got it for a quarter. It's clear from the poor condition that the fellow who owned it originally enjoyed it quite a bit. It remains one of my most favorite records, despite the distressed condition. I could buy a better copy, I suppose, but it would not have the charm and 'feel' of mine.
I remember getting in trouble for singing this version of "Tennessee Waltz" at school. (Well, I WAS 10 years old...) I do remember the teacher trying not to laugh when I was singing about the "sports section."

Early signs of ‘the roast’. Refreshingly not politically correct but I’m glad things have improved in this regard.
Oh God.
