- Time for some delicious Austrian street food! We visited Vienna, Austria and we had to try a lot of the typical to-to items you can get on the go in Austria. We wanted to add the desserts in this video because when it's nice outside, it is very common to enjoy a nice cake and coffee on an outside table in the streets of Austria. Deana is from the USA and Phil is from Germany. We live in Germany and enjoy learning about different cultures and cuisine. We encourage you to grab a snack and enjoy the video!
Please Note: This was filmed well before the November 22, 2021 lockdown in Austria. There was no announcement of a full lockdown prior to our arrival in Austria.

So much food to try and so little time! 🤤 Which dish is your favorite? This is the last from our Austria trip. It took us some time to finally finish the edits on these videos. If you missed it here is the video from an entire day of eating Austrian dishes: ruclips.net/video/QmNWSBq7UYY/видео.html
the cut at the Käsekrainer sausage had a certain purpose..if he hadn´t done this and you would have bitten in the sausage then the very hot melted cheese would had squirted out with pressure and would might had landed on your clothes or even in your face and then it would had left a potential burn blister in your face...
That´s the reason why I personally wouldn´t eat a Kaiserkrainer as Hot Dog because it might be actually dangerous...therefore Käsekrainer only at a plate already cutted off
Hi, arent hotels closed now? I am going here in 4 days but hotels are closed😀
You should have bought the Sachertorte directly at the Hotel Sacher (near the State Opera). Another Torte to recommend is "Imperial Torte" to be obtained from the Hotel Imperial and from certain shops, or the "Oberlaa Torte" from Kurkonditorei Oberlaa.
In fact, the tradition of sweet dishes in Vienna stems from Bohemia!
nice video, this made me get a sausage
There is a reason why the Käsekrainer is cut. The cheese inside is hot and fluid. If you bite on it you squeeze the cheese and it sprays - mostly on your hand and your clothes. To minimize the danger of being sprayed they cut the Käsekrainer so the cheese is not so much under pressure.
The crunch on the roll when you both take a bite, has me salivating.
I have just tried it, this is what Austrian proud of 😊
Fresh and warm Apfelstrudel ,, the nicest breakfast there is
I would advise everyone here to order Sachertorte with whipped cream (unsweetened preferably). This combination really makes the cake shine, really made for each other.
Apfelstrudel is often eaten with vanilla sauce (or a very thin vanilla custard). My mum makes a mean Apfelstrudel. Sachertorte is not something that is eaten very often - I think I had it only once or twice. It's more a cake for very very special occasions.
You guys are so fun!! I LOVE your content!! I'm new to the channel so I am binge watching all of your videos today. Much love from Montana!! 🙂
I like Deana mixing English and German :-) Oh, that's heiss...
You should have Deanna do a wurstel commercial. With her hair blowing while eating the sausage.
Or the next Wella or Schwartzkopf commercial.
so exited of ur videos 😁😁😁❤
Yay! Glad you are here! Hope you brought a snack!
Is it diana or phile that liked my comment 😄😄😄🥰?

My husbands favorite food in Vienna was the sausage in the bread! I lost count of how many he ate in 4 days!
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀💟
I think these "closed hot-dogs" (?) are genius! Almost impossible to spill anything! They should stuff some roasted onions and pickles in there with it! :D
There's not that much place in a closed hot dog :D, you can barely fit the sausage into one of them ;D
Here in Denmark they are being sold as "French hotdogs", you can even buy the prepared breads in the supermarket! 😆
i know it stuffed with a mix of ketchup and diced onions kalled a kafka in linz 😂
@@Atztec1 You have no idea. They manage to stuff in tons of mustard and ketchup if you order it with them, next to the sausage ;)
they cut the tip, because if you don´t sometimes when you take the first bite the melted chese will "explode" into your face and burn you.
Yum 😋 thanks for sharing! I really enjoy watching you guys! 💙❤️😘😘🙏🙏
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀
In Austria they also call Käsekrainer "Eitrige". You're welcome!
Mit sechzehnerblech
Actually the famous street food is döner kebap in wien!
The food and desserts look delicious.
Great video...all the food looks so tasty.
That Apfelstrudel looked amazing.
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀💟
Gosh darn it ,now you made me want to fly to Austria for Xmas.
haha I think they're supposed to be out of lockdown starting Monday!
Looked delicious! Love it
Sausage and pastries. I'm moving to Austria.
Omg that food all looks fantastic 😍 the apfelstrudel was huge 🤩 love the different type sausages.
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀💟
magical, iconic, beautiful, heavenly, amazing 🤩!!!!!
hehe und so delicious!
Phil was vocalising my thoughts exactly when he was talking about the apricot jam in the Sachertorte 😂
Vienna with Deana 😁
Great noch I'm hungry again. The Region why the cut the Käsekrainer open is, because when it is closed, it is unter so much pressure that at the first bite it explodes and the Hot cheese burns everything in your mouth.
P.s: Apfelstrudel is better if it chilled a day😋
Oh I LOVE stewed prunes! On top of those crumbled pancakes would be heaven for me, 😋 YUM!
Deana’s hair is gorgeous!
A good Leberkäse sandwich is amazing! Some people don't like because they don't get it from shops who specialize in it, like Pepi's. So if you really want to taste something affordable and delicious one should make sure to get it from such place:) Awesome video as always guys!
I get so hungry watching you both ❤️🤗
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀
Yayyee!!! So glad to see you doing the Christmas Market thing! I was scared lockdown there would of shunned everyone away?! 😁 great video!
Ohh Vienna 🇦🇹 moved here 3 years ago and I'm so in love with it.
You paid a bit more than usual but that's normal in the first district
I have applied for job seeker visa. I need local Austrian address for visa get approved so can you help me in this regard
I have a recipe for Kaiserschwarrm that calls for rum-soaked raisins in the mix! Thank you for reminding me of this - I should make it for New year's eve :) I want to visit Vienna & your video is so helpful!
It’s a very typical to put raisins in Kaiserschmarrn :)
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀
My beloved home city! 🧡
the reason why owners serve you käsekrainers with a small cut is because of the melted and extremly hot cheese inside the sausage, which will explode without at the first bite you take. don't think about how often my lips and mouth got blisters...
Looooove Vienna, beautiful city😘
When I lived in Vienna, my favorite street foods were Heisse Maronen, Geröstete Kartoffeln, and the big rectangle slices of pizza. Döner was lunch every Saturday when we went to Naschmarkt to get our produce for the week.
We say Maroni (not Maronen) and Bratkartoffeln (not Geröstete Kartoffeln).
@@volldillo that's how I thought I remembered them, but it's been over 25 years, so I relied on Google to tell me. 😂
The bosna trucks in salzburg are fantastic too.
Just subscribed to your channel. I follow you guys for a bit and I think your content is fun and entertaining to watch. So, because Christmas is coming this is my gift 🎁 to you. 😊
The food especially the savory street food looks so good. I am not a sweet thooth but i can eat a lot of the savory food. Great video as always ❤
Yess lots of great savory options!! Thanks, Bianca!
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀
My first trip to Europe (many years ago) was a ski trip to Austria. Chicago to Innsbruck via Munich. The food in Austria and Germany was awesome.
Greetings from one windy city to another! Maybe you've experienced our Föhn on your visit 👋😄
@@catonkybord7950 It was January when I was there so it was cold but not as cold as January in Chicago! I don’t think the Fohn winds were blowing when I was there. But maybe I’m wrong. It was actually quite pleasant in Innsbruck and Munich for January. Fond memories.
Beautiful country
You cut the käsekrainer so it doesn't splash to much hot liquid cheese in the mouth with the first bite.
@2:10 You know what the best thing is about a kasekrainer? It basically comes out the same way as it came in. So you could eat it over and over again if you wanted to. :)
I can't stop laughing when you guys eating the sausage 🤣🤣
I lived on Kaesekrainers in rolls like that ("Kaesekrainer mit Hot Dog," if I remember correctly) and Liptauer on Semmels when I studied in Vienna! Thank you for the memories!
Other way round: Hot Dog mit Käsekrainer.
Thanks! Now I know for next time!
In Southern Germany the Frankfurter are called Saiten(Würste), These are the thin ones. The thick ones are called Wiener. And there's also the Frankfurter Rindsbratwurst (made entirely of beef)...
the cake looks THE BEST of all!!!!
I'm glad that they've started to slice into the tip of the sausages now. The first bite into an uncut sausage often resulted in hot grease running down my chin.
I come from Austria and I don't like Sachertorte, because in my family is Sachertorte almost the birthdaycake for everyone. I broke the tradition. On my 16th birthday I wished Esterhazy Torte and at that time is Esterhazytorte my favourite birthdaycake. But to all other birthdays in my family there is Sachertorte.
PS:Srry for my Bad english
Esterhazytorte is the best! I can see why you would prefer it! I was actually hoping they would get some as I watched.
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉
Love this video! My hubby and I have been bingeing your video ahead of our move to Germany next month. We are moving to Offenburg…have you been there before?
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀
I want Vienna street food now.
Watching your Vienna videos I'm getting a little bit homesick . Actually I am from Graz, but Austria is Austria ;-) Next time you have to visit the Styria region, go to a Buschenschank and try their homemade food. Another streetfood I can highly recommend you are Debreziner with Senf & Kren. It's the spicy version of Frankfurter...lecker :-)
austria is not austria...vienna is the capital of u farmers...
....Zwischenstopp in Wien, windig, das Haar weht locker im Wind......nix "Drei Wetter Taft" ...... sondern......original Deana Hair👩👍
Yummy yummy yummy ....... apple strudel 🤩😋
You should’ve tried the original Sachertorte, especially bc you were extremely close to the Hotel Sacher. 😅 It tastes different than the one you’ve had.
And with whipped cream!
Quick heads up, theres an OG Würstelstand at the new Hauptbahnhof (Südbahnhof) 👌
Where did u get the Apple Strudel from? Looks phenomenal!
Sausage history time:
The Frankfurter / Wiener Würstel was invented by a viennese butcher during his time in Frankfurt.
So Germans call it Wiener after it's inventors origin and Austrians call it Frankfurter after the place the butcher brought the recipe back from.
It´s actually the other way around.
The socalled "Wiener sausage" was invented by a born Frankfurter butcher = Johann Georg Lahner (born 1772 in Frankfurt - died 1845 in Vienna) who settled his business in Vienna in the 19th century and the difference to German Frankfurter sausages is that the Brät is a mixture of beef and pork while the German optical Frankfurter equivalent is traditionally soley made out of pork because of the "medi eval Metzger Zunftordnung" which had forbidden to make sausages with mixed meat back then because "Metzger " had only the privilege for pork meat back then...and that´s why Lahner settled his business in Vienna because in Vienna was at that time no "medi eval Metzger Zunftordnung" anymore.
And the reason why it is called "Frankfurter sausage" in Vienna and in whole Austria is because there was already a local sausage named "Wiener sausage" ever since which even exist till today and which is a totally different kind of sausage = no par boild sausage but a cold cut sausage..
@@michaelgrabner8977
TIL I know jackshit about Frankfurter. 😅
Wow...finally..I understand👏😄
no it was n butcher from frankfurt whos lived in vienna but frankfurter suck the best sausages by us in austria are berner würstel thats käsekrainer with bacon around
@@schudkrod5669 A Berner is owa ka Käsekrainer mit Speck ummadum, normal is a Frankfurter mit Käs gfüllt und Speckmantel. Grüße 😁😉
The kaiserschmarrn looks so good! What is the address of the stall that you visited?
We have a local bakery ($$$$) that makes Apfelstrudel that looks identical to what You’er eating! Now I may have to Oder one for Xmas.
Ohhh sounds like a wonderful xmas dessert!! 😍
Käsekrainer is somwhaat close to what we in denmark is caalling a french hot dog(Nick named Greenlander in a sleeping bag) and the way the bread is cut the nickname came to mind with the sausage on the sleeping bags pillow ;-)
I think Phil can easily go both ways.
2:35 most beautiful shot of all time! :D
You should visit Vorarlberg If you wanna see some nice Mountains. Here it is allowed to eat Leberkäs with ketchup 😉
Wawww!!! Molto buono!!! 👍👍👍
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉
There's a war going on about if it's called Fleischkas or Leberkäs.
Where I come from, Leberkäse-Semmeln are eaten with sweet (!) mustard and I love it! So it's basically mustard, but tastes as sweet' as ketchup - it tastes not (!) like ketchup, but sweet as! :)
Juhu, da war die Sachertorte :-)
Tks God we don't have this here in Canada...we already eat in Vienna...😄...so good..
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉
Übrigens, habt Ihr auch einige Kaffeehäuser besucht?!
fun fact: vienna ranked 1st in every category again this year for the quality of living survey except for the friendliness of people where it literally ranked last, amongst cities in the world
Sounds about right.
Btw, no austrian besides vienneese people will get mad at you for making jokes about vienna or their people.
the "classic" person of vienna is quite the opposite of friendly 😂
a bit like parisians then 🤔
Sachertorte usually also contains a layer of marzipan...
Fun/gross fact: we call Käsekrainer "Eitrige" as well because of the melted cheese bubbles popping out as you eat it (Eiter is pus for non German speakers)
ewwww ^^
or as they say in west-flanders: etje 🤢
When are you going to be back in Germany?
We are back in Germany! 😋
@@DeanaandPhil are you going to be in Berlin Jan. 21-25?
Upper Austria is Leberkäse epicenter
1:29 once you go ketchup and mayo on a Leberkäsweggle.. there is no way back.
Eitrige = Käsekrainer
Bugl = Scherzl = Kante = Brotanschnitt
Hülse = Flasche Bier
😋😋❤
Please for gods sake...try PIZZA Fleischkäse! It blows the original one right out of the water! Since months, if not years most of the expat and/or food channels only try the traditional Fleischkäse although there are variations like onion Fleischkäse, Cheese Fleischäse or Pizza Fleischkäse available since decades. Nevertheless-thumbs up guys! 👍
1:25 It used to be a very simple and cheap food for the working class - which is why the traditional meat used is horse meat (back in the day the cheapest meat on the market). The meatloaf with cheese is done to stretch the meat further out.
Personally I find ketchup too sweet for Leberkäse and prefer mustard.
1:55 Thats actually a small hotdog xD btw the Vienniese sausage is called "Frankfurter" in Vienna. No idea why they attribute the invention of that particular sausage to each other.
5:10 Cafe Aida, decent choice (their USP is the 50s - their entire interior is in the syle of the 1950s), they some nice cakes.
1:53 in Ostdeutschland nennen wir das Kettwurst.
Leberkase in Bavaria has a recipe that is traditionally different to the rest of Germany - it is a Bavarian ‘invention’. In the Viktualienmarkt in Munich, some sellers will not put ketchup on if you are an adult. ‘Ketchup is for children’ they say.
You guys might be a little to happy eating a big sausage! LOL
I thought Apfelstrudel comes with vanilla sauce 🙂When you like vanilla icecream with it than you love our apple cake, they serve it with vanilla icecream🇳🇴👍😀
Happy new year to you and the rest of your family how are you celebrating your holidays so far?🎉🎀
Leberkas is a very Bavarian Thing
I’m not sure whether it’s more Austrian or Bavarian, but whenever I go to Germany there would always be a Leberkäse stand on Wednesday’s in the middle of Real😂
what about punschkrapfen, also famous in Austria
They cut the sausage, that if you bite in the käsekrainer due to the pressure the cheese doesn't splatter in your face or burns your mouth
Where are the potatoes at?
I also don't like the apricot jam in the Sacher Torte, or only if there is so little in it that you nearly can't taste it. Actually for that reason I think the real Sacher Torte from the Hotel Sacher is the best, as they have not much jam in it and the dough is still not dry, but it is the most expensive one too, thats for sure
I also think Sachertorte is overhyped... often it's also just kind of dry. Maybe I just like creamy fillings in my pastry :D
Hope you had a good time here!
True. My brother loves it, but I can't eat it without loads and loads of Schlagobers 😂
The Sachertorte was invented to have a cake on the emperor's court to be served at midnight buffets that could be eaten without cutlery. The original recipe has no jam layer in the middle, the chocolate icing had to have much sugar and low fat, so your hands stay clean.
Why Käsekrainer? Because its named after Kranj (Krain) in German which was once part of Austria
👍🏾
In parts of Austria, the Leberkäse is originally made of horse meat
Also im Vienna ,you can specify which meat you prefer.
I wish you had tried at least a couple of sausages. I'm searching for videos that give an idea of the assortment available but I only ever see one random selection.
Wiener Würstchen heißen in Tirol Frankfurter.
