@@aleksandarradovanovic8496 Jay is nowhere near the skills of Eloy if you follow Eloy's work on Sepultura recently aswell as his Jazz/Fusion and Prog music stuff. Plays all tempos, not only 4/4's, uses ghost notes, swivell, doesnt need to use triggers, hits hard af, actually keeps temp instead of rushing every song... The list goes on. It's very factual that Eloy is far more talented and skilled than Jay. You can prefer Jay because music will always be subjective, but from a purelly ''how good he is'' Eloy is easilly ahead.

Check out studio sessions for Sepultura, Quadra on YT with him tracking and writing drum parts. I was on a tour with my old band back in 2011. Sepultura and Exodus were the headliners. Sepultura turned up with this 20 something year old kid playing drums. This was his first show and concurrent tour with the band. It was a festival. Immediately after that set, all anyone on this tour and in the crowd could talk about was Sepultura's new drummer, which of course was Eloy. Every night of that tour (which was 31 shows in 31 days across Europe and Scandinavia ), the other drummers who were on this tour would be watching this kid go from behind his kit. Myself ( who is mediocre at best 😂), Tom hunting, Nick Barker, VAAVER and all our techs and crew would be watching with our jaws on the floor. Every show. He was an animal and played drums like none of us had ever seen.
Bottom line, Slipknot is lucky to have such a raw, powerful talent in their ranks and i hope they utilize it well. Eloy is a great guy and one of the best drummers to ever play in the metal realm. Ask anyone who knows 🤘

Eloy has a pretty strong base in brazilian and afro-latin drumming, his stuff tends to be quirky but super groovy as a result, with interesting syncopations. With Sepultura I see it as the end of a cycle in which Eloy was the key to everything, Sepultura's last 2 albums were really very good and this goes mainly through Eloy's drums, Eloy's preparation for metal music was meticulous well oriented, the guy took classes with Aquiles Priester who is one of the best and was in charge of Angra's drumsticks, then Eloy is invited to play in André Matos' solo band, André Matos being one of the best musicians in his genre of metal and finally the preparation with Sepultura, a legendary band with worldwide repercussion where Eloy was able to increase the level, I believe we will see Eloy's peak in Slipknot, and it is strange to see how the ties intertwine throughout history, Slipknot which was a band influenced by Sepultura in the 90s, now receives from Sepultura the energy necessary to continue.

Watching this and bringing up the business side of a band, it reminds me of the drama even hip hop greats Wu Tang Clan have had over the years. You also bring up personalities and speed. A few things that come to mind regarding Jay is that yes, he played super fast. I read somewhere it's possible that Jay was probably hard to keep up with in the studio. When watching the live performance at Pioneer town, Eloy played hard, but not fast and the band sounded like their old selves, which was refreshing. Also, there was an interview where Jim Root mentions 1) There was no other choice but Eloy, 2) Eloy and VMan know each other from before 3) Eloy called Slipknot regarding the position 4) It feels like they're blaming Jay for the last album not being a hit.

  • @pedrothevenard

Joey was a monster, great drum player, very creative and one of Eloy inspirations, I have nothing but respect about his drumming, Jay was a world class drummer with some caveats but really solid musically, both are perfectly capable to play in any metal band, Joey was better though, it isn't hard to compare, he just was, the same way that Eloy has a lot to prove on writing, there's no question that the legacy of Joey is better on that side, but if you are talking skill, there's no comparison, Eloy it's just a better drummer skill wise, there's no discussion, skill isn't everything for sure, that's why Lars is still one of the great names of metal drumming, but if you are talking skill it's as clear as day that Eloy is a mile ahead Joey, that was already ahead of Jay.
It's hard to say someone is the best drummer of all time, but it isn't that hard to say who are in the conversation to be the most skillful metal drummer of all time, and only one drummer in Slipknot has any chance to be on that conversation, and that's Eloy, period, we'll see about the songs they write together, but if you want to listen a live performance of the old songs, the absolute best drummer they ever had it's Eloy.

All well said Tank. Keeping solid tempos without a click is one of the hardest things you can do as a drummer. Using a metronome app to start off a song is an excellent way of doing it without forcing click on a band that doesn't want it. Eloy's is almost superhuman at keeping a steady tempo while also playing intricately and hard AF.

Eloy's technical ability aswell as Jay's are undeniable and it's pointless even arguing the fact. But watch them play a gig, Jay never matched Joey's presence and now we have Eloy. Just watch his covers of Slipknot from a few years back, he was made for that seat. Aggression, passion, talent and completely humble with it. No wonder he has lit a fire under other members of the band, he is why we all became fans of them in the first place.

Quadra, the last and latest album from Sepultura, that unfortunately came out the day before the Covid 19 pandemic Exploded, is built around Eloy’s drum tracks. And it sounds AMAZING. I can’t wait to hear what He can do with Slipknot. And I am really curious to hear if Sep new drummer can actually play Eloy’s drum parts as Eloy does (they are extremely complex, even for Him. If anyone watches the “making of” Quadra videos, He showcases how hard it was for him to “learn” them. Or watch a drum-cam of “Means to an End”… on RUclips!

Portuguese pronunciation of Casagrande is actually closer to Spanish then Brazilian Portuguese, but since he is Brazilian then their pronunciation is the correct one.
The same name exists in Portugal and you would pronounce it with a "the" sound at the end like Casagran"the" while brazilians pronounce it Casagrand"i".
His name literally translates to Big Home, "casa" meaning Home and "grande" meaning big or large.

I like to add an important point of Eloy's drumming that may have contributed to Slipknot's decision to chose him. Its his ability and creativity to compose. If you hear Sepultura "Quadra" album you will find a lot of interesting grooves and things that add so much to the musicality of the band and sounds sooooooo good. Eloy have technique, power, control, creativity, professionalism and the most important thing, the passion and love for what he is doing. Im so excited to what this band will create with his musicality...

several influential drummers say that he is the best, not in the history of metal as a whole, but in the current history for at least 4 years. the best of its generation. It is relevant to many who play the instrument at a technical level, most people weren't aware of this because it was at a niche level, but slipknot shines a light on what has been true for some time now and that's why it's in the band.

Well done, I love how you give respect to all past drummers. Eloy and Derrick Green not to mention Sepultura as a whole copped a lot of hate and ridicule for simply moving on without the Cavalera Bros. In my opinion Sepultura only got better since Against and Eloy reinvigorated them for another 4 amazing albums (they are crazy good) and are criminally underrated. 🙏
