Thank you, that was brilliant. Might I make a suggestion, only because I've just tried this method on a woven fabric. I do a lot of machine embroidery and applique work. If you use duck billed scissors, such as on applique, you can carefully cut very close the the stitching xxx
Found you again after all these years. I've had my Coverpro for years and was afraid to use it. I finally got the courage after watching your video several times. Thanks a bunch.
@Sandra Daves - so nice to hear from you again. I'm glad to hear this video info spurred you on to use your cover stitch machine. I simply love mine. Hope you and hubby are still active and doing well. In case you didn't read, last year my beloved Wes passed away. It's not been the same without him, but I am getting on with my life. Take care.
I only have the Janome 900CPX. I've had it for almost a year, and I ended up shoving it to the back of the table and ignoring it all that time. I tried following the books, no luck. Everything I did looked awful! Waste of money. Then I watched a couple of videos (including yours) on how one actually operates, and the settings, and when I went to try again - VOILA! It actually worked! Thank you!
I know this was 3 years ago, but I'm just getting hot and heavy back into garment sewing and heard so much about the coverstitch machines. Now I know which one to get, thanks for all the information, and more on this would be so appreciated. Thanks for spending the time doing this video!
Glenda thank You so much, this has been invaluable to me ! I just received my Janome cover pro 2000 CPX and due to pandemic restrictions, I am unable to have in person lessons. This is so helpful! I didn't Know what to do with the looper thread after threading it in the last hole . Your video is the only one I could find (after watching several threading videos) that says to leave it hanging on the inside about 4 inches and then close the cover. I'm Looking forward to watching the next one in the series!
I’m a retired Home Ec teacher. I’ve used my serger for years but have just purchased a Janome coverstitch 2000cpx. Your videos are excellent. Thank you
I really appreciate that you demonstrated the removal technique 3 times very slowly. I'm about to sew 3 knit maternity tops for my DIL who is expecting in Oct and I mainly offered to make these to get better acquainted with my cover stitch - I have the Janome 900 CP. These are the best videos for cover stitch techniques out there. I hadn't thought of basting first or trimming after. I can see where those steps remove the swear words from sewing!
Jennet Sutton - take your time and 'play' with the machine before tackling a real project. Build your confidence. I hope you enjoy this machine as much as I do.
Glenda, you're the best! Great ideas. I have been avoiding the purchase of a cover stitch machine for a few years. Two years ago, I started my professional alterations business, and I thought, initially, that I could get by without a coverstitch machine. Boy, was I wrong. I should have gotten one right away--the heming is much more professional looking and a time saver, too. My serger can do only so much. I don't know yet which brand I will purchase, but your advice is well at the top of my list. I guess it all depends on what one's needs are...you know, am I going to use the machine just for heming or venture out into other things as well. Keep the videos coming! Thanks
RE: Hemming a narrow tube - I turn the tube (leg in this case) inside out, press up the hem, then, working on the inside of the tube (right side of fabric), sew the cover stitch. I have to sew a little slower, but I like the results better. Love your videos! Lots of great info & well produced. Thanks so much
So glad I found your tutorials- I am just now learning how to use my Janome 1000CPX, thanks to you Glenda. Can't wait to find the next cover stitch video. Thank you so much.
Sharon Rimsza - that's great that you have our SFD pattern kits - I'd suggest watching more of our how-to videos to help you in the process of drawing your patterns.
I really find you4 video easy to follow. Just purchased my Brother cv3440 machine and done some practising love your tip with the masking tape. My husband has just gone to his workshop and donated a reel!
Thanks so much for this very informative tutorial. It answered all my questions. I inherited one of these machines and haven’t been game to use it until the other night. I was struggling with a few things so this has been very helpful.
Thank you Glenda, great video I've learnt a great deal on the Janome cover stitch machine. I don't use it very often, so when I do I go back to your video to refresh my mind. Thank you again. Thelma Harrow UK
Very helpful. I was practicing on my Janome 900 for the first time yesterday and was very intimidated by it. I needed to hem a narrow sleeve and it just wasn't happening - now I know why and what to do differently the next time. Still a bit intimidated though...!
You could do the hem of the leggings by turning them inside out after doing the side seam - by turning them inside out you can stitch all the way round on the right side of the fabric, just holding the excess out of the way, so just as easy as sewing on the flat piece.
You probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my brother these days :)
@Helen Nguyen - a serger is not the same as a cover stitch machine. So unless your serger does both functions, I doubt you'll be able to do the same thing.
question for you: how do you make sure that the raw edge of the hem is not "short" or "long" so the fabric is not included in the hem or there is extra fabric to cut off....I am guessing this would happen a lot with knits and even silky type fabrics???
I recently purchased a Janome CoverPro 3000P and the appropriate narrow elastic gathering attachment, however, what I'm not able to do so with this foot is sandwich or enclose the elastic between two layers of edge seam fabric. Do you know a solution for this? There doesn't seem to be any better foot for this purpose.
@Effie Siverts - I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with that foot attachment. Maybe you can contact the company where you bought either the machine or the foot and ask them for assistance.
Hi Susie - yes, the top I'm wearing is sewn from the Sure-Fit Designs Dress Kit and can be purchased from www.surefitdesigns.com - specifically this link - surefitdesigns.com/collections/fitting-sewing-pattern-kits/products/dress-kit-discounted-combos. This specific top is called the 'Color Blocked T-Shirt' and is one of our gifts for signing up for the Sure-Fit Designs newsletter. It is drawn from my Dress Kit pattern. We also have international distributors if you are in a country other than the USA - surefitdesigns.com/pages/international-ordering-from-sure-fit-designs
Hi, i would like if you could do a video on how to repaired a seam on a leggings that the seam is inverse so we see the inside seam outside, because when i look at it i think i have to completely open or take out this seam to repair the side leg. I don’t know if you understand me, I’m French and i have a little bit of trouble. Sorry and thank you
Hi Deborah, I guess that changing the differential ratio by rotating the button at the right side of the machine will make ruffles by feeding more material in.
Thank you, that was brilliant. Might I make a suggestion, only because I've just tried this method on a woven fabric. I do a lot of machine embroidery and applique work. If you use duck billed scissors, such as on applique, you can carefully cut very close the the stitching xxx

Yes, even though it's a uni-function machine...it does give such a professional look to the garment. I love it too.

I recently bought a coverstitch machine after seeing your demonstrations, so pleased. Thank you I love watching you with all your tips etc.

Explanation was great. Choice in fabric color and thread choice were not great for visibility.
Excellent video, I just ordered my Janome 1000..it's arriving just in time for Christmas
Lucky you! You will love it. I'm glad the video was of benefit.

thank you so much -this helped me more than you could imagine!! I got my Janome 2000CPX last night !!
Absolutely great instruction. The best I have ever seen.
Thanks so much for your kind comments and feedback. I'm glad to hear the information was of such value to you.
Great demonstration Glenda!
Thanks so much for your input. I'm glad the info was of such benefit.
Thank you!
I have found the video very useful and very much like the 'dental' type tool you use for grabbing the threads - where do they come from?
Great video, thanks.
Thank you, I just, today, got my 2000 CPX I love it...
Hi Glenda, thank you for your video ! I have the Brother serger brand so I can sew the hem like your machine ,can’t I ?
@Helen Nguyen - a serger is not the same as a cover stitch machine. So unless your serger does both functions, I doubt you'll be able to do the same thing.
@@surefitdesigns Thank you very much! If I want to do the hem with two needles so can you explain how to do my serger ,please?
@@helennguyen9823 You can't do twin needle stitching on your serger.
@@surefitdesigns Thank you for help !
A perfect way to learn. Thank you
Very useful tips!
You are most welcome.
Have you had a chance to use the Janome 2000CPX, which appears to be the same as the 1000CPX with more tension control of the looper thread?
Thank you very helpful

You can pre-baste or you could use a fusible web like Stitch Witchery to hold the hem up before Cover Stitching.

Can I do these types of hems with cotton type garments also?
Yes, Cathy you can use the Cover Stitch machine on any fabric.
@@glendasparling8896 thanks, appreciate you getting back to me

@Sofie lachapelle - I'm sorry but I don't understand your question.
@@surefitdesigns Is there a simple way to take out the seam on a garment that i have sew with the 5 threads ?
@@microsorciere - not that I'm aware of. You would need to pick it out very slowly and carefully.
super tutorials! ☺ thank you
On leggings my cover stitch looks beautiful but doesn't stretch enough to go over my feet without breaking the thread. Any suggestions?
Margotgn - I've had the same situation. I simply try to stretch the fabric a little when I'm stitching the hem. This seems to work adequately.
enjoyed !!
I'm glad to hear this was of benefit for you!
Thanks you so much 💐

How can I sew ruffles using my Janome cover stitch machine?
Hi Deborah, I guess that changing the differential ratio by rotating the button at the right side of the machine will make ruffles by feeding more material in.
where can I get one of those hooks?
It’s called a silhouette hook. Available from amazon
I'm I glad I I dint by it
I'm ok
I use a credit card to draw out the threads.
@Marion Lewis - that's a great idea too.
Sorry this is very complicated. I wsnted to by one but is too much.
