Dr. Mike is super fun to listen to, but discusses everything through the lens of hypertrophy. He says quite clearly himself that e.g. cold exposure can reduce inflammation which leads to feeling better more quickly. Does it hamper muscle growth? Yes! Can you likely practice soccer (or whatever) sooner? Also yes! And in that case, who cares about muscles growth. It pretty much depends on the context of what you want to achieve. If you don't clarify that, the whole question doesn't make sense.

Yeah but what about all the other benefits of taking cold plunges or cold showers.
Taking a cold shower after a workout can have many benefits, including:
Improved circulation: Cold showers can improve circulation by making your body work harder to warm itself up. This process can help clear out waste and provide tissues with oxygen and nutrients.
Reduced muscle soreness: Cold showers can help reduce swelling and inflammation, which can soothe muscles and aid in recovery.
Faster heart rate recovery: Cold showers can help your heart rate recover faster.
Improved mood and mental clarity: Cold showers can boost your mood and mental clarity.
Strengthened immune system: Cold showers can help strengthen your immune system.
Healthier skin and hair: Cold water can help retain oils in your skin, which can keep it moisturized and balanced. It can also prevent excess oil that can lead to greasy hair or breakouts.

I think the point of everything is to make the cold part right after you wake up, cuz its the best time to do it and not destroy your recovery right after hard workouts. And the hot part right before you go to bed cuz its help you relax more. Cold for energy for the whole day and hot so you sleep well and recover. Its just how it works.

One thing you’ll notice if you look at the people obsessed with cold plunging is they start looking older faster. They start out looking a bit healthier then as the obsession grows the older starts kicking in. But ppl who were raised with heat-Suana in their family tree tend to look younger get. Not fit but younger and healthier glow. I don’t think constantly shocking yourself is good for your body-it may be good for your mind and ego but the stress shows on your face when obsession kicks in Common sense that heat will lose so you up and calm you. You want to release stress. I disagree with this guy on working out then cardio. He juiced so i mean of course ppl will believe this guy but just think of what we are designed for back without technology and living in cave-there’s no fridge and breakfast. We are designed to forage ,then hunt and chase=cardio then workout by lifting and carrying, maybe fighting, then eating and then rest and heal. See, you workout at end then then eat and heal so to use your new muscle in real life scenario the next day if we are cave ppl and we will always be cave ppl-if the electric goes off tomorrow you become what i just explained above within a week or 2. Try working out with nothing in morning because you have no food or fridge and then go chase down your food for you and your family -you wouldn’t be able too. That’s how he’s explaining how you should do it. This dude better hope the electricity doesn’t shut off because he’ll realize he’s backwards of his natural self and he won’t have steroids and he’ll shrink to a pencil neck. Ppl understand everyone out there is trying to out do the other so they have to try and come up with a different angle but they need roids or you won’t listen. Just think for one second -nobody would know who the Rock is if it wasn’t for steroids. Wouldn’t matter if he was good at fake wrestling or good at acting-he would never have those careers and was he even good at those without those roids? No he isn’t.

I like Dr Mike Israetel, but he's wrong when it comes to heat and cold exposure. Don't know if there is enough data to suggest, that going from heat to cold is beneficial, but if you seperate them two from each other, it deifinitely works.

    • @user-ii7xc1ry3x
      @user-ii7xc1ry3x 2 месяца назад +45

Can you elaborate on that? As far as I know, there is data to suggest they do _not_ help with recovery. There is data to suggest that heat does not mess up recovery, but does not improve it. There is data to suggest that cold completely messes up recovery (as in the adaptation to the stimulus in the scope of muscle gain).

There’s several people including Andrew Huberman that touted the benefits of heat and cold exposure have gone back to clarify that cold exposure should not be done within 2-3 hours after a workout. Dr Mike isn’t talking about whether it’s good or not. He’s talking specifically either hot or cold exposure in the scope of muscle recovery.

I hate these kinds of interviews.
A person is asked a direct yes or no question.
They should answer "yes" or "no" and then describe what they mean.
Not start making metaphors and breaking down something in such a way that you make people wait for the simple answer at the end of the damn explanation.
    Yes or no first!
