Part 2 of the BSA build!
Prior to this video the bike was sprayed all over with a can of penetration spray / release agent for about a week. While I think it worked on some parts, other required intense heating (the SA guide screw and pump peg screw) to break free from their rusty prison.
These old bikes often come with square shaped bolts or slotted heads and they can be a pain to deal with. Be gentle with them and watch for any signs of slippage because you don't want to round them off. A gentle tape sometimes helps seat the screwdrive (or in one case break the head in half).
I could watch this guy restore bikes all day. It's so satisfying. He makes it look easy. When I tried it was a pain in the ass. And I had to hunt down parts forever. For a 69 Raleigh 10 speed.
This was a relatively easy one. Compared to the 87 Scott MTB I'm still working on it was a breeze!
Great job on taking this bike apart! I can't wait to see it when fully restored....
Really beautiful bike. Hope to see it restored someday soon.
Love the rear light with the "jem" taillight.
That stem is cool.
Your adjustable 🔧 is sooo much nicer than mine.
Work of art isn't it. I think it was called a swan neck.
Amazing condition, hope the fork is salvageable.
Another great project. You seem to have a gift for finding some great projects. Looking forward to watching the progress.
I've missed a few too along the years but so glad I got this one.
I can sympathize with what you are doing. We have this stuff called PB Blaster I have found helps. I ended up soaking the bottom bracket in it to remove with a 3 foot wrench for leverage.
Really hard work . Gratulation .
These are desirable vintage bikes.
I bet this one is gonna be one of your best end results.
I had 29 bearings In the top carrier bearings race and 30 on the bottom of a 1920 Raleigh so must be the way it was done
Great video as usual!
Really beautiful bicycle. Will you try to restore the lamp? I think it would be worth it just for decoration. Maybe put an LED battery light inside?
Ooo, that could be a good idea actually. The bottom is completely broken out but perhaps I could clean up the rust gently and 3D print a new base or something
@@MonkeyShred keep us updated ;-)
Good job
Wonderful!
interesting bike...I was like that seatpost isn't coming out and lo and behold it was easy.
The bike God's were being kind to me!
@@MonkeyShred ikr, bought a gary fisher mtb and had to spend 1/2 an hour with a pipe wrench just to get it loose.
Cool bake
I like your new format for videos. I get to see everything, but you fast forward things that take extra time. It looks very seamless. Perhaps you have a new editor. That bike is coming apart really well. It's nice when that happens. Can't wait to see it done. :)
Nope, just me here. I'm a one man (and one cat) band. That's why it takes me a little longer sometimes. :)
Was there ever a part 3 to this????????
There wasn't, but there will be. This whole channel is a hobby for me and this is an expensive build to get right so it's taking some time.
@@MonkeyShred One of the best builds so far ! Really looking forward to part 3 !
Is there a part 3 to the bsa gold vase
Not just yet.... but hopefully by summer. I'm looking to repaint the bike soon and I have a nice new set of rims and hub brakes if I need them.. I could do with some of the chrome work being redone though.
@@MonkeyShred thanks I just bought a 1934 gold vase ,your video inspired me as that bike is a beauty ,it needs work like yours though ,keep up the great videos and say hi to torvi the cat ,Steve in Surrey.
How do you keep track of parts. Is there a system you use?
Jasper Sieniewicz Shoe box maybe
Pretty much a box, or boxes. If I take a bolt off for a specific part it always gets bolted back to that part.
What’s going on with this bike
Hopefully I'll get it sprayed up soon. I need to try and find a few replacement parts.
Great effort dude Are you restoring to sell on ? or keep
Keep for sure. IF it gets done in time and IF Eroica happens next year I'd like to ride it.
@@MonkeyShred will there be a video about it ?
انا لا اتفرج الا على الدراجات الانكليزيه
لماذا لا تستعمل البخاخ
Where is the fucking part 3 😕
Extensive use of adjustable wrench/spanner. Guessing you have sized metric wrenches, but probably not SAE - and this bike probably uses SAE fasteners. Yeah?
I have SAE socket set too. The adjustable normally just comes out for the bigger things
WD40 mi frends
please don't repaint the frame it is in beautiful condition
The frame isn't too bad but the fork definitely needs some attention. It'd be odd having one painted and one not.
@@MonkeyShred maybe dip the forks in oxalic acid or evapo Rust?
