When looking at the Batman Beyond villains as whole, they are very clear inspired by Spider Man rogues gallery.
Blight (Green Goblin) - A corrupt CEO who is secretly a sadistic green monster and was responsible for the death of someone close to the hero (Power order the death of Terry's father, Osborn killed Gwen Stacy).
Inque (Sandman and Venom) - Both are shapeshift criminals and vulnerable to water.
Spellbinder (Mysterio) - Both criminals who commit heist using holograms and illusions, attacking the hero through his mind rather than his body.
Stalker (Kraven) - Both hunters with a moral code and obsession in capturing the main hero.
Shriek (Shocker) - Both villains use sonic waves as weapon.
I believe he works perfectly in Batman Beyond while for comics he feels really lackluster.
Moreover most of them are dead at this point:
- Billings? Shot in the head by his giflfriend
- Moffit? Apparently killed at the end of Infinite Crisis
- Mironov? Killed by the Cold Flame
Basically at this point we have only Charles and let's be honest he's the worst of the bunch.
I don't understand why writers try to create laughable villains for heroes that don't have a good rogue's gallery to begin with: Batman and Spider-man can have them since they have so many great villains, Superman and Flash too since they have a pretty good collection of rogues but the Batgirls? Come on.
I would say that changing the original design and assigning the villain to another hero are good choices since Billings' original look was atrocious and with villains like Scarecrow and Mad Hatter surely Batman doesn't need another and less important mind manipulating villain.
Dante could work but he needs to be treated as a threat and maybe change the outfit to be more similar to the Batman Beyond's look.
P.S. Spellbinder appeared in "The Batman" animated series from 2004.
Apparently the episode in which he debuted was originally scripted to have Mad Hatter as the main villain but then something changed and Spellbinder was used in Mad Hatter's place.
At the end of the day this is just a rumor but it solidifies the idea that Spellbinder in Batman's rogue's gallery is basically a discount version of Mad Hatter or Scarecrow
I think Spellbinder should stay a Batman Beyond villain, he works perfectly in Batman Beyond
@@jamestoner3900 i can understand your point but the fact is that Spellbinder, differently from Inque or Blight, isn't an original villain or is inspired by one but is directly taken from Batman's rogue's gallery.
I think he works perfectly in Batman Beyond too but why letting such a character design go to waste when, unfortunately, he wouldn't be used that much after the end of Batman Beyond?
You can keep, and improve, Dante in the comics by making him one of Barbara Gordon's biggest threats and at the same time keep the Batman Beyond version in tie in comics, where you could even link the 2 by saying that Ira's version of the costume comes from Dante's design after you reworked it to make it more similar to the Beyond design (a bit like Mr.Freeze's appearance in BTAS let Kelley Jones develop his version of Fries' suit in the comics that later would have been adapted in Victor's appearance in Batman Beyond)
Spellbinder is easily my top 3 favorite Batman Beyond villains for his awesome costume and his amazing illusions skills to Batman and anyone around Gotham City
An awesome villain on a great animated batman show.
It would be great if Batman Beyond is resurrected from cancellation and brought back with new episodes.
If they brought back Will Friedle? Would it work if they had Bruce Wayne dead and Terry flying solo? I'd watch it...
@@ChannelNerdgasm Me too. It's sad that Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy passed away in 2022. R.I.P. Kevin Conroy.
Oh my god that Superman story sounds like classic silver age silliness in the best ways possible. And by the way if we get a Batman beyond relaunch I hope Spellbinder get's Dante's design because it looks super dope.
Yeah its not bad
My second favorite Batman Beyond villain
love his redesign in Batgirl
Yeah its pretty cool
You Forgot The Second Spellbinder That Was a Member Of The Supervillain Team The League Busters
I was first introduced to Spellbinder through Batman Beyond. Spellbinder i think should remain exclusively a Batman Beyond Villain, he works perfectly there, one of the best villains in that show, i love the Costume, Dr. Ira Billings is an irredeemable piece of shit, but hes a great villain. Comics Spellbinders have been lackluster and just haven't lived up to The Mantle of Spellbinder, my favorite episode from Batman Beyond with Spellbinder is his debut episode, IF we ever get a live action Batman Beyond movie, Spellbinder is a villain id love to see, his orange and black costume id love to see that in live action or what if he wears a black and orange tuexdo and has The Swirl Mask and has a Swirl Orange and Black Tie, (you're technically giving it away that hes spellbinder before the reveal 😂)
id make the live action spellbinder a sleazy scummy psychiatrist who commits patient inconfidenity by spying on his patients and manipulates them into doing crimes for him and blackmails them by threatening to reveal their history to the press if they don't do what Spellbinder tells them to do
I would have prefer the 2004 version as I think he has so much potential like he could give the Martian Manhunter a run for his money.
Currently re-watching The Batman (it came out on blu ray a couple years back). I briefly watched it when I was younger - never in its entirety. Remember being turned away by some of the character designs and story changes from what was in the comics. They were weird. Spellbinder included. Bane still sucks. But, there's been a clear improvement in season 2. I'm impressed so far. Nowhere near the quality of BTAS, but I'm liking the focus on gadgets and unique batsuits lol.
Spellbinder also appeared in the 2004 animated show The Batman as the replacement of The Scarecrow. Why you didn't mention this in your video, Nerdgasm, is beyond comprehension. Get it?
The Spellbinder from that show was okay, but a bit forgettable for me on a recent rewatch. I think when you look at the history of the character, the Batman Beyond version did the most for it.
@@ChannelNerdgasm You are right. Thanks anyway for the video.
No offense, dude. But the Eyewitness episode is my least favorite. Unlike Over the Edge, it was all a realistic nightmare where Commissioner Gordon wants to destroy Batman, who was responsible for Barbara's death at the hands of Scarecrow. Here, Barbara is a hypocritical idiot who almost destroyed the Bat-Family in the real world after believing Terry killed a D-list anarchist, all because she had a bitter divorce with Bruce... Metamorphically speaking. The only difference is that she didn't hire Shriek, Inque, or Stalker to hunt down Batman and betray her later. Overall, as Batman told her: You've already fouled up once. Stay out of our way so it doesn't happen again !
I mean its not like I'm saying its as good as Over The Edge lol. It's not. Eye Witness is also only one of my favourite episodes that stands out in terms of its premise. There are others that are much stronger for obvious reasons. Batman Beyond had a lot of mediocre episodes though - especially in its later seasons. A lot of them feel so basic and straightforward. I believe the show lost its identity after a while and didn't know what it wanted to do anymore.
