  • I started this animatic almost an entire year ago! It was on the shelf for ages but I've been making an effort to go back and finish old projects now that I'm on ADHD medication.
I have ALOT of problems with Six the Musical and ALOT of problems with how they treated Katherine Howard. I might get into it in more depth one day but this is definitely a product of those frustrations. Let me know what you think about Katherine I've never really engaged with discussion on Six outside my friend circle!
I actually have the thumbnails for a full All u Wanna Do animatic layed out. A super short (very very rough) preview is on Patreon right now! I might make it my next project to tackle depending how the views on this one go. :)

love this honestly, i feel like it really captures the whole thing. i like that you chose anne b for the family and to show anna for her friends since she was her lady in waiting and she and anne b were cousins!
i also like when she looks up at the portrait of anne when she lowers her head onto the block, almost like she was following her example? really gave me the chills, and the slow fade as katherine stood alone. she probably felt so alone, and i think it probably reflects that!
i also would absolutely ADORE to hear your critiques on six! its honestly one of my favourite musicals as a history and musical fan but it definitely has its downfalls.

Ahh I'll try to keep it short! I really WANT to love six since im both a history and musical fan but the way they claim to be 'a feminist reinterpretation' while not really spending any time in the horror of their situations really irks me. Its that argument that 'we dont need no man' feminism overshadows 'men are oppressing us' feminism if that makes sense?
And Katherine Howard is deffo where that issue is most apparent where her story is HORRIFIC... but she's singing this sultry sexy song that kiiind of has dark undertones but also makes jokes about her as a victim of child rape with lines like 'major to minor' and 'he let me use his favourite quill~~' like Toby she was a victim of abuse beheaded for the crime of being a raped as a teen can we not make sexy innuendo right now!!

@@xenanimate3681 I think that’s kind of the point though? For a long time in history Katherine Howard was portrayed as a
social climber who used her body to get ahead in life. So the song employs that expectation around her with the type of music, but subverts it as the lyrics show the harsh reality of what was going on.
I actually think this criticism works more for Anne Boleyn’s portrayal in the musical. Because her lyrics “flirt with a guy or three” don’t reflect what happened, as she was not cheating on Henry and these had been false charges used to incriminate her.

In the song and show the episode this was taken showed in the perspective of the Main Character head in his near death experience surrounded by the people in his lives (who already passed away) who impacted him in a way.
The scene here was a girl named Sarah Lynn (who fell into Hollywood stardom at a very young age which led to her becoming washed up and drug addictive. She died of a heroin overdose.) Who is basically singing about her life and what has become and where it ended up meeting the fate if the main character.
The axe scene here is somewhat similar to what happened in the scene. She walks towards a door that has a black void and as she sings she stares deadpan and she jumps in taking a breath, (the door symbolizing her death and how sudden it was)

Gosh I really love this. I was randomly looking up animatics since I rediscovered some of the songs off my 2020 list, of course.
But yeah I agree. The overall message is quite, wishy washy. I had only listened to the S/T for a while until I found out about the “competition” in the musical itself and was *sigh* I get they were trying make a modern / spice girl history mashup and they wanted it to be fused with satire and some of them it works.
Relistening to Katherine’s song, I feel like it does do an interestingly good job of showing how the men in her life progressively used loving words to take advantage of her and at first she’s naively into that but progressively catches on that, it’s really just leading up to being an outlet for sex. Maybe if it was retooled to not be sultry it would’ve worked better. It’s also just hard to grasp because an adult woman is singing the song but these events are happening to a teenager. It’s food for thought def cause I had for a majority of the time listened to these songs out of context and only knew vague scraps of the history of them before looking them up.
Either way great great animatic and reminded me I hadn’t thought of Bojack in a while. I didn’t need to remember all this trauma!

I don't know if was on purpose but when you put Boleyn when see say "family" I thought it was clever since if I recall they're cousins
Also I read what you write on other comments that make me think how the musical could have been better it I was more serious but also I think the musical if kinda a satire still that doesn't cut the other thing like since how the other queens in the musical minimize her experience with there's ,after all she still was a child a the moment

    • @XenaAchilleos
      @XenaAchilleos 2 года назад +7

It was intentional! And so was 'friends' cutting to Anne since Katherine was Annes lady in waiting! I'm glad you noticed :)
I think there definitely is a level of satire to the show! And tbf all u wanna do is the biggest moment of pulling away to explore the horrific aspect, i just feel in general the show should have done that more (and i hate hate hate the csa jokes)

whenever I think of don’t stop dancing, I never thought of “don’t stop dancing till the curtains fall” or “don’t stop dancing till the curtains call”, I thought of “don’t stop dancing till”-you fall, because of Sarah Lynn literally falling through the door, and her death and downfall, now whenever I think of “don’t stop dancing”, I still think “till you fall”, but now I imagine a girl getting her head chopped off, and not just any old girl, that is that I imagine is Sarah Lynn..

I liked this interpretation of the song better. Here it is clear that the girl had her inner ideal, but friends and relatives forced her to descend from the moral mountain to the podium of color and depravity, where there is money and fame. And at first she obeys this, but then she falls to the bottom of her soul and is disappointed in herself. Being at the bottom, it is almost impossible to rise to where you were before. It's too hard and unbearable. People look at you, point a finger, and everything interferes with your life. And the only way to end it all is death. I'm afraid to imagine how many actors and stars ruined fame and popularity.
