My first foray into HomeKit was at the beginning of the Christmas season this year (in my area, that is Thanksgiving weekend in the US). I set up a HomePod to play an Apple Music Christmas channel and an Eve Power to turn on my Christmas tree lights, both at sunset. My wife, a frequent critic of such unnecessary technology, was impressed with the perfect execution of this automation daily. I started finding her sitting in this room near sunset as she enjoyed the “magical” start of Christmas music and the tree lights each evening. For me, I was just impressed with how consistently these worked. When I saw your videos on how quick thread performs, my boys and I had fun playing with turning on the Christmas tree lights to see how quickly it would turn on or off. Spoiler: it’s as close to instant as you can be without being hard wired.
Hey Brad, I have a couple of Eve products. I purchased their first generation Water Leak Sensor (one of my first HomeKit accessories) before Thread was ever announced. If they ever come out with a Thread version of this, I may end up replacing it with the newer version so I can extend my Thread Mesh Network I have an Eve Weather with Thread on my back porch that shows me the outdoor temperature and humidity at my house. However, since this is an "End Device", it really doesn't help to extend my Thread network, but I have had no issues with connectivity in HomeKit. I also have an Eve Energy Smart Power Plug with Thread and an Eve Contact Sensor with Thread. I was going to use the Eve contact sensor to replace my Aqara contact sensor for my mailbox automation but I am having some issues with getting it to work on Thread. The Power plug is to far away from a Thread border router, so I will either have to get a HomePod mini for that area of the house or get another Eve Energy plug to put somewhere in between to extend the Thread network. It appears that my metal mailbox may also be an issue with having the contact sensor inside the mailbox. My Aqara contact sensors work great so I will probably not change them out with the Eve contact sensors. I recently purchased an Eve Aqua Smart Water Controller with Thread. I updated the firmware on it so it would support Thread. However, I am unable to get the Schedule to show up in the Eve app. Not sure what is going on there. Right now I can only get it to run automatically for 10 minutes before it shuts off. I cannot get the Home App automations to "see" the Water Controller as an accessory so I have to create the scene in the Eve app and then I can create an automation in HomeKit to run the scene at a specific time on specific days. But I can only set the duration to either 5 minutes or 10 minutes in HomeKit. If they come out with a Thread enabled Flare, I will pick one of those up as well. One thing I don't like about the Eve app (and it may not be something Eve can control), is that my HomePod Mini's show up as Routers with a cryptic Hex number assignment. I have no idea which HomePod mini it is displaying. If it could show it's real name or the room location it was in would be a great help in trying to diagnose Thread network issues. Eve Motion Sensors are way too big and I prefer the Aqara motion sensors as it allows me to "aim" the sensor easily to pick up motion in the desired direction from the sensor. I have a coupe above door ways, so as soon as you walk through the door, or open the door, the sensor is activated and the associated scene runs. This would be very difficult to do with the Eve Motion Sensor. I am also a big fan of the Aqara G2H camera hubs and I love that they have a "fish-eye" effect reduction. If Eve added that to their cameras and they were Thread enabled, I would give them a serious look. And, I totally agree that the Eve Light Strips should come with Thread. Again, if they come out with one, I will give it a serious look.
Eve must have listened to you as the New Flare has Bluetooth and Thread. :) This is a great advertisement for Eve and what they do. To be quite honest though, I have not had any issues with cheaper products that I have had installed for several years either, so just be aware you are paying a premium for the Eve name, not necessarily for extra quality.
I noticed in the opening photo they have included a smoke sensor, which isn't a product that's on their website. Do you think that's an upcoming product?
I love Eve products. Going to start adding thread enabled products next. My only concern is buying thread this year but then those products not being matter enabled so requiring new equipment… lol
@@TheBradLloyd I hope matter just builds onto thread. One being the communication tech and the other being the software riding on it but ya, one never knows.
Totally agree! This would be great.I ’ve seen a lot of viewers recently asking for Eve Smoke with thread. Eve has produced this without thread though not for North America yet.
Hi Brad, is Thread/Eve compatible with Android cell phone? I can't find any app for it. You are mentioning only Apple ecosystem in this regard. Thank you for your response. Regards, 😀Android user😀.
Just a question.. why would I need a eve motion sensor if I have eve window and door sensors? Or vise verse, is it a good idea to have both.. I think they are almost the same thing just smaller because the doors sensor can turn off and on lights but so can the motion sensor so I’m confused between which I should get
Hi Gerald - a door and window sensor is best if the situation makes sense. It's generally faster and more precise than a motion sensor. So if you are opening a door to turn lights on, use a door and window sensor. But if you are simply entering a space (no door to open), then use a motion sensor. No need to have both. Hope that makes sense.
Sure does - as of last Tuesday. It was actually my most recent video if you search. It requires new hardware though, so if you have a current Eve Room it’s not just a firmware update.
@@nickpanzeca7640 it needs to be the “thread” version. Amazon.com will have one with BLE and one with Thread. You can also buy from the Eve Online store.
Hi Ryan, if you buy Thread enabled products they will work with Matter once it's available. If you have an older product that isn't Thread compatible it should still work with HomeKit in the near-future, though, there will likely come a day where the technology is discontinued.

I am very surprised that you did not mention the eve smart radiator thermostat, since that is the single accessory that can save you the most money.

Can I get a notification on the Eve energy when the power consumption drops out? Like for when my laundry is done I can get a notification
That would be great feature - but I'm not aware of anyway to make that work.
That’ll be an awesome feature to have!
Gotta love eve products especially their thread line.
Prodcuts? I think you made a typo in the title.
Sure did! Thanks Serena - corrected!
Thank you for your videos, love them :)

Hi Eric, I don't have Eve Smoke, but it's not new. Check it out here: www.evehome.com/en/eve-smoke

Sadly there’s one item missing as Eve haven’t produced it yet; Eve Smoke with Thread capability.

Hi Brad, Eve Flare is no longer on the Eve Website. Has it been paused in preparation for Thread?
Does the motion sensors and the door sensors work with an alarm system? What alarm system do you recommend for HomeKit?
