saw them at the Roundhouse Chalk Farm on a Sunday eve, with other greats at different times eg. Motorhead's early outing, + Pink Fairies, Bryn Harworth, Kusaal Flyers etc. Great days!

First saw the EBB in at Cromer Links in the 70s. Last saw Edgar Broughton at the Shepherd Bush Empire in 2016...well actually that's not quite true, I spotted him fishing for pike on Bridge Broad Wroxham a couple of years ago. A great band.
It was sunny and very hot. I've got a vague memory of two of the band passing out on stage, leaving the drummer to close the set by himself - may have been a gimmick! It's good to remember how so many big acts performed for free in those Hyde Park gigs. Organisation seemed to be non-existent our side of the stage but they were all happy events. as m
The 7th of June Hyde Park Concert. 1st Act at 2.30PM 'Blind Faith'. 2nd Act Richie Havens. 3rd Act Donovan 4th Act at 5.00PM Blind Faith. Edgar Broughton Band Third Ear Band Edgar Broughton Band played: 'Death of an Electric Citizen' 'Apache Dropout' 'Love in the Rain'. Those lists may be incomplete. But it is all I know. Please add any additional that you know and I will update, if I can.
I was there with a few from school, very hot day. I remember edgar broughton chanting ' out skinheads out', as there seemed to be a few hanging around near the trees where we were, but nothing happened. donovan, ritchie havens, and third ear band very good. was slightly disappointed with blind faith, but seems ok now. also went to sisle of wight and rolling stones, plus lots of other good stuff. would be good to do again, but am always recreating it, like now.
I don't think that they would be shouting "Out skinheads out", it's 1969 not 1979. Sometimes I think that you are not on the same planet as everyone else. If you know so much of this band then tell me where they spent a lot of weekends?
It was as I recall sunny! Good job - it had been chilly sleeping in the Park in liberated deck chairs all night! Blind Faith pretty average. EBB the best of the bill. '69 was a good year!
Rembering this Woodstock Melody Festival. Me and my brothers saw it on a movie in the town Växjö (where we then lived) and i think it was in the spring in 1971.
They always seemed to be on a journey somewhere, where they never seemed to arrive - cos Edgar was always singing " I'm coming, I'm coming." But there was one good thing about the band : Steve was a good drummer!
My memory is playing tricks. I thought I went to this & Pink Floyd were top of the bill & the Kinks Lola was played during the interval and even though it was only just released everyone sung along, and there were both Angels & Skins & we left early & got pulled over on Hyde Park Roundabout by the Police who condemned the A35's handbrake as not being very good and Andy had to go home with a Pink Slip & tell his Dad. The Police were in a white MGB roadster with the roof down, I promise I'm not kidding you. Oh no, just looked up the release date of Lola, must have been the year after. Carry on.
"Makin' Love With Your Mother".......think Edgar omitted that line....not to spoil the correct vibe....?.....Nice find. Always wondered what Edgar's performance was like, at this better known Stones gig July 5th, a month later......
I was at this gig, as well. A very young man grooving to Blind Faith (distinctly average and not destined to survive for very long). I think that the Third Ear Band (interminably dull and only made any sort of sense if you were stoned out of your box) and Richie Havens also appeared. I have memories of Donovan putting in an appearance, but maybe I'm confusing it with another Hyde Park gig. I used to love the EBB. Listening to them now, though.............. Hmmm. Musicianship that would disgrace a teen band playing at a church hall gig. Steve Broughton was about the only one who could play.
*Bogallan* ____Just like the Sex Pistols, they weren't about flashy dazzling musicianship, but more about the vibe and image they projected.....Anyway, those albums sounded good enough.....Although time hasn't been that kind to "Wasa Wasa" ......
Remember them like it was almost yesterday ........... (If yesterday was obscured by the mother of all opacities and assorted sorts of hangovers) Ah. The sweetness of youth in those days. I'd be happy to reset my body clock back to its late teens capabilities (I'd treat it with far more care too) but I wouldn't swap those days for these.
Well seems there are a lot of us who were there, still rocking and now re-living our memories on U tube. Blind Faith was a disappointment to me, better if Cream and Traffic had stayed together imo.
There were 4 Hyde Park Concerts the year before in 1968 on 29th June, 27th July, 24th August and the 28th of September 1967. Does any on know if there were earlier concerts, say in 1966 or 1965? Edgar Broughton Band played 3 Hyde Park Concerts. June 7th 1969, September 20th '69 and July 18th 1970.
I went to one of those gigs in 1968, I think. It wasn't on a specially constructed stage but on the old victorian bandstand, which was really quite small and crowded, with a WEM PA system set up around the perimeter. Pete Brown's Battered Ornaments(with Chris Spedding), The Strawbs and The Move. I can't remember who else. The Move were really quite good. They did a very impressive R&B set that took most people by surprise, given their poppy chart presence at the time. We were quite near the front. I don't remember the audience being particularly large.
Thank you. I think they were all free entry. What was the site like? Were there stalls? Any other tents or services or was it all music? 46 years ago. I was just 10. Some one told me he remembers being able to buy 3 pints of beer for a shilling. Any memories of those concerts are probably of interest.
Three pints for a shilling?? No way. First pint I bought (c. 1964) was 1 shilling and 5 pence! Near enough two bob a pint in '69. Go out with a quid and ..... 10 pints and a bag of chips! As I recall took 22 hours to hitch back to Leeds after this Show!
Checking prices for '64 on an other site comfirms your quote. But about 8p a pint. Lol. That is only about 32 licorice black jacks or about 3 sherbert fountains.
Hi Halstead Guy, I take it that's the Halstead in Essex? I was from Maplestead and used to knock around Halstead around that time, was at this concert at the park, as well as a few of the other free ones at the time, might even have known you. Agree about the sound systems, but the atmosphere was great
Great. When bands played for free even the Stones. Now you need a lottery win to watch one act. Mega profit is all promoters see now, it’ll never go back. Isle of Wight 1970 was £4 for 3 days of the world’s top bands. What’s the cost of an average festival now? £300 ? Or more if you book Glastonbury. Can’t put that increase down to inflation now can we. Country has turned to shit ! Money, money, money, f….ing joke !!
Poor old Arthur Grant, he could only play 3 notes. They were good for an old headbang for a limited period of time. If you were around 17 years old. I also saw them a few times at the Dagenham Roundhouse. ( Me and me mate, Gary Bates )
As a close friend of Art and also a bass player, I must with the utmost respect correct you. He could play more than 3 notes, more like 10 and quite a few more than Keanu Reeves!
I was going to go to that concert with a friend but a nice guy with a lovely motorbike asked to take me to a bike race meet 😊i married him 6 months later 😂😂53 years of mayhem and love

Three bands in the 60s I would describe as Hells Angels with musical instruments: The MC5, Blue Cheer--and these Broughton boys!
