An awesome doccie on this fabulous hobby. Have been involved in pigeon racing in one way or the other in Johannesburg South Africa since 1969, still love it. No matter where in the world you go, you can make friends and have a laugh and a chat with a fellow pigeon fancier.

I would really liked to race in that time. Every time is good but that time make you feel nostalgic. I don't see many racers/fanciers comments, hello where is everybody. Cheers from Phoenix Arizona.😁

This is one cool documentary!:))) Great music, nostalgia some parts to laugh at a bit (the spotted pigeon that won't enter the loft), amazing old-school equipment and most of all - tribute to pigeons. Thank you so much for uploading this video!:)

funny how watching this old pigeon video
brings back memories before the electric timer.
trapping or catching your pigeon to retrieve the rubber ban.
i must add that todays race pigeons are much better looking than they did in the 60's

In the time of "CORONAVIRUS WORLD WAR - 3" in 2020 when your own life is at the hands of a invisible pandemic it's cinema and documentaries that breaks all barriers and provides solace and entertainment in the confines of a house. As a lifelong sports enthusiast and a silver jubilee pathological gambler on horse racing decided to understand the sport of pigeon racing.Picked the right documentary and found this video extremely educating to a novice from Mumbai in India where pigeon racing does exist in a few city's. I myself had a pair of wild rock pigeons always nesting in the gallery of our house for almost 2 decades. When the original pair died another or could be its progeny took over the nesting site. This went on until we got our house and gallery renovated. Surprised to know that China is the country that now monopolizes "Pigeon Racing" purchasing the costliest racing "Armando " for 1.4 million U.S dollars. Thought only race horse cost that amount of money. Surprised that the Royal Family of England is also actively involved in "Pigeon Racing" as i was under the impression they only raced horse. One of my favourite boxer's Mike.Tyson is a pigeon fancier and If "PIGEON RACING" existed in Mumbai i would definitely have been a active player in this bird sport. Ahoy !

Everything is electronic now, a friend of mine won 1200 dollars in a race, this film does not tell much about the betting the fees and the prizes. The bird has a tag on its leg, my friends entrance perch had a scanning pad so when the bird landed on the pad it was scanned and put int a computer laptop. also when you feed the birds you shake a can of gravel or pellets, they associate the noise with eating. when you want the bird to go into the coop faster you shake the can and the bird being in a long distance flight probably is tired and hungry, so he will go into the coop faster when he hears the can.
I had mostly show birds, I miss my birds!

That was real middle class America... I remember - I was 6 or 7. That kid could have been me or one of a million kids living in Chicago-land. If my father wasnt such an ass I might have kept my pigeons and had a long career racing them... Anyone remember the old Berco seed and floral company on Roosevelt road in Maywood? I worked there and the son was a fancier and racer. Now the place is a parking lot for a grocery... Berco moved down the street onto an old gas station corner lot and built a new greenhouse. I dont know where the birds went. Times have changed
