Here to politely argue "most rockin" - "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock and Roll), Kiss The Bride" - I can go on. LoL Maybe you were thinking of "Love Lies Bleeding" that FFAF is the intro to?
Elton John is one of Jerry Cantrell's favourite musicians. The first record he ever owned was an Elton John record that his dad gave him. Elton played piano on Alice in Chains' Black gives way to blue, arguably one of the most emotional songs Alice ever wrote (which is saying something).
What a wonderful deep cut for your first listen to the great Sir Elton John. For me this is his best album, followed by Yellow Brick Road. This Madman album is immaculate from start to finish. The strings and orchestration just add to its majesty, and the drumming is also just amazing. Every single song on Madman is a stellar piece of music.
Funny enough he won a Grammy for "Can You Feel the Lion Tonight?" from Lion King (one of 5) and was nominated for a Tony for the Lion King musical (though he didn't win it).
Metal guy here but also appreciate Elton John and I’ve enjoyed his music over the years. Never heard this one though. Glad I clicked on your guys reaction!
Another hard rock guy here, but Elton's music has been a constant through my life. Went out dressed as him for Halloween as a kid around 1972. Seen him live several times. Loads of talent.
"LEVON" & "TINY DANCER" Both of this same album!! (Loved your reactions!) EDIT: Both of these songs I mentioned along with "MADMAN" are available as "Live" versions as well, with Elton in top form!!
Good choice. Paul Buckmaster arranged the strings. Madman Across the Water is one of the all time greats. Tiny Dancer and Levon are also from this album. Both are classics.
I know you get a lot of request but this is a little known hidden gem of Elton’s!! Great vocals and guitars and funky little twists in the outro🤘. Dirty Little Girl! Excellent one I think you’ll like!
I'd probably put Tiny Dancer at the top of my personal list of best Elton John songs. It doesn't hurt that it was part of the best scene in Almost Famous.
He wrote the music for The movie. The Lion King for which he won an Academy Award he also won Grammy Legend Award. Candle in the Wind is a song he wrote for the actress Marilyn Monroe the song would go on. To become a farewell song to Princess Diana one of my favorite Elton John songs
The chills on my arms and down my spine when I hear this song are still as real today as they were when I was a teenager. He's just my fave performer of all time. He has a voice that doesn't get enough recognition. His songs are not easy to sing. He has incredible range. Watch Indian Sunset live from his Vegas show with percussionist Ray Cooper. It will blow your mind.
He did the music to The Lion King along with Tim Rice. That's where the Oscar came from. But the dude has a ton of hits. Tons. And the early to mid 70s was the most epic period of his career. He got more "pop" as time went on.
Per the credits you read, there are a massive number of great songs by Elton. Some of my favorites: Take Me to the Pilot, Burn Down The Mission, Levon, Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters, Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, All the Girls Love Alice, Someone Saved My Life Tonight 🤘🏻
A very idifferent Elton John song is ''Ticking'' on the Caribou album. When Elton John sat down to perform this song at a concert in Exeter, England in July of 2003, he turned to the audience and introduced it this way: “We’re going to do a slightly more serious song now. This song was written for an album in the early 70s called Caribou [released in 1974]. It’s a song that deals with violence in America in about the year 1973. When Bernie [Taupin] wrote the song, we thought things would get better - not worse. Well, here we are 30 years on, down the line, and things have gotten worse. And so the song is more relevant [now] than when it was written and its called Ticking.”
FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND / LOVE LIES BLEEDING CAPTAIN FANTASTIC AND THE BROWN DIRT COWBOY MONA LISAS AND MAD HATTERS... All three are epic ELTON JOHN songs. Can't go wrong.
Funeral for a Frend/Love Lies Bleeding by EJ is a must for you next. Both songs blend together and cannot be separated. The album Yellow Brick Road is an iconic piece of work by the genius. Such a huge catalogue,it’ll take you about 3 years to absorb it all. Every style, every genre,he just injects drama into every track. I envy you a little bit knowing what’s coming for you with THIS artist. British of course.
The best track he ever recorded as far as I'm concerned. Anybody else can have their favorite, and that's ok with me. But for me, it didn't get better than this. Just the genius of the arrangement, puts it on top. This track never fails to shake me to the core. Elton has a lot of great tracks. Some well known, others not so much but still great. Here's my list... Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Gray Seal Boogie Pilgrim Tiny Dancer Burn Down the Mission Don't let the sun go down on me Philadelphia Freedom Levon Someone Saved My Life Tonight Grow Some Funk of Your Own Feed Me Island Girl Funeral for a Friend (Love Lies Bleeding) Candle in the Wind All the Girls Love Alice Roy Rogers You wanted a list, you got a list. Now lets see what you do with it.
I am a HUGE Elton John fan, and never in a MILLION years I would have thought that out of his music catalog, that THIS would be the song you guys would pick as a first on the channel. I love this song, and his vocals on it are amazing. I say you should check out Someone Saved my Life Tonight or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Thank u again for reviewing Elton John, and here's hoping u do many more!!!
You'll probably appreciate Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. It's... different than you usually hear from Elton John. His Oscar is for Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King. He co-wrote the soundtrack to the movie with Tim Rice.
This is my favorite song by him. The entire album is a classic. His early work was his best. Honky Chateau, his debut album, and this masterpiece. Thanks for the video guys.
I was in high school from 70 to 74. Elton was part of the soundtrack of my life. Madman is one of my all time favorite albums . This song is one of my favorites from the album
Your song Tiny dancer Indian sunset Candle in the wind Mona lisa's and mad haters Rocket man Funeral for a friend/love lies bleeding Someone saved my life tonight Just a partial list to get you started. I know I have missed a dozen "must hear" songs
Thanks for your reaction to my second favorite song of his. My first is Someone Saved My Life Tonight, which is a song about his friend helping him get out of a somewhat abusive relationship.
Great song, Elton has always been a showman with tons of tallent! If you're looking for a little variation, Warren Haynes does an amazing cover of this with Government Mule
Those consecutive albums all came out within five years of each other. In fact, he put out 12 albums im 5 years. He once said that the only artist who was more prolific than himself is Prince. Great song and album ❤
Same here! Seen him twice and with Billy Joel both times with Billy Joel playing first then Elton then they shared the stage for a number of songs. Phenomenal!
@@tomcurtis8431 I have never seen Billy Joel. I am jealous there! I saw him with Kiki Dee. I honestly don't know who the warmup might have been the second time. Was there one??? I really don't know.
Lion King guys. .... one of my favorite albums is Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, it is Elton's favorite....he said it's his least commercial. It's amazing front to back...
This song doesn't get talked about enough as far as Elton's catalogue goes. Props to who requested this. And let's not forget the brilliance of the musicians in his band. If you guys do more Elton, I'd love for you to do my personal fave, Someone Saved My Life Tonight.
You gotta do George Michael featuring ELTON JOHN "LIVE" At Wembley doing Elton's Hit song " Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". One of the most EPIC performances. Guys trust me...this one's gonna blow you away!
“Someone saved my life tonight” was always one of my favorites. You’d recognize the falsetto he does throughout it as a sample Kanye used in his track “good morning”.
Elton John's mainstream stuff is irrefutably wonderful. That said, after hearing all that I discovered his early gritty, sightly dark music like this dandy and was bowled over. These earlier songs have so much moxie, angst, heart, and backbone, oh yeah and a little bit of talent too. Lol. Thanks for doing this one, guys. This is the title track of one of my favorite albums of all time. Cut after cut, it's stellar.
Excellent choice today. Although look up the version that is a bonus track from the tumbleweed connection cd. It's the long version with a cut guitar solo that is one of the best I've ever heard in a pop song.
Elton won his Oscars for "The Lion King". Yes, he wrote that shit too! LOL Not all of it, but yeah. His other Oscar was for the movie about his life called "Rocketman". Which is a song you must do soon.
Elton is such a Baadass that he was on Soul Train doing his Mega Hit..."Beannie and the Jets". And yes he was on the SOUL/R&B Charts for weeks!!! Next...play Rocket Man LP version please. ( Full backing instruments). On the live it's him and the piano...which is still good but... LP version ok?
What Elton does is use the song to tell a story, he's the storyteller. As he sings it, he 'feels' it. Elton sings this AS the Madman. Most people covering his songs don't realize this and the songs sound flat...and when they do (like when Sara Bareilles covered 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road') they knock it out of the park. There's a song off of The Tumbleweed Connection called 'Talking Old Soldiers' where he is an old man, talking to a young man he met in a bar. Same thing.
Guys, just look at the album cover to The album, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy to get a glimpse of one of my favorite albums. Elton thrived in the 70's, including debut album in '69. I never get sick them.
This is up there in my favorite Elton songs. Don't Let the Sun go Down on Me and Burn down the mission (the live version with the orchestra) have surpassed it recent years, but its still up there.
Epic song. Still on the playlist. 🤘This is definitely the one. I can’t think of any other reaction channel that I’d want to watch react to this song than you guys.
Gentlemen , gentlemen the Elton rabbit hole is very deep. This song is one of if not my favorite EJ song. I suggest you take song requests from the comments and arrange them chronologically starting from the beginning of his career and work your way to the present. You'll be amazed at the span of styles he covered.
There is a long version of this song from the "Tumbleweed Connection" album that features Mick Ronson (Ziggy Stardust band) on lead guitar. That version has a cool extended guitar solo...
Brilliant Elton's first 3 albums are his best before he went pop. Try Where to now St. Peter or Sixty Years On or his 11 minute rocker Funeral for a friend
This album is my personal favorite (I'm partial to the earlier, pre-"hit machine" EJ). Big shout-out to the late Paul Buckmaster, who did the string arrangements on this and Tumbleweed Connection, my #2 fave ("Come Down In Time" - damn!). He remained active right up to his passing, in 2017.
elton at his best. everything on this record is great. tumbleweed connection is another album that is way up there. paul buckmaster producing and arranging strings. awesome stuff.
You guys gotta do Funeral For A Friend!! Arguably his most rockin song, definitely his most epic
Funeral For A Funeral , absolutely !
Dream Theater and Metallica covers are great, too.
Thanks for the request! I was going to say this.p
We gotta toss Take Me To The Pilot into that mix as well!

I don't think I know a single rock/metal fan that doesn't appreciate Elton John, his talent is undeniable.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I love hard rock and metal and I love Elton.
Absolutely!!!!
And also he respects Metallica.
What a wonderful deep cut for your first listen to the great Sir Elton John. For me this is his best album, followed by Yellow Brick Road. This Madman album is immaculate from start to finish. I'm thrilled that you've chosen this as your first Elton John song! It's actually perfect.
My all time favorite Elton John album and song. ❤
That song is off the charts, Elton is a genius. Bernie gives him the words and Elton gives us a fire song.
mona lisa"s and mad hatter"s is incredible
absolutely.
One of my fav songs from him. A masterpiece.
hear, hear. love that song forever.
The tune George was referring to that Mary J. Blige sampled was Elton's "Bennie and the Jets" - great song!
I recognised his piano miming, but what Mary J Blige song covered it? Epic beastie boys cover.
@@Demion83Biz Markie on vocals ?
Elton... BBC Studios 1971...Plays several of the Madman Across the Water album live...Early Elton is so amazing...
He won the Oscar for the Lion King. He wrote the score for entire movie.
Funny enough he won a Grammy for "Can You Feel the Lion Tonight?" from Lion King (one of 5) and was nominated for a Tony for the Lion King musical (though he didn't win it).
I was wondering if it was Lion King.
It is unbelievable the amount of amazing talent performing and on the radio in the 70's.
Metal guy here but also appreciate Elton John and I’ve enjoyed his music over the years. Never heard this one though. Glad I clicked on your guys reaction!
“Ticking” is little known but superb. Also “Have Mercy on the Criminal”. And the live version of “Sixty Years On”. Incredible depth in these.
" Burn down the Mission" another masterful deep cut Elton.
Really hoping they do this or Amoreena from Tumbleweed Connection
Another hard rock guy here, but Elton's music has been a constant through my life. Went out dressed as him for Halloween as a kid around 1972. Seen him live several times. Loads of talent.
“Tumbleweed Connection” and “Madman Across the Water” are his best albums. IMHO
Phenomenal song. In fact the whole album is. In his prime!
Early Elton John albums were incredible with Bernie Taupin, an unbelievable song writer
One of his best, and earliest songs. The early 70s Elton John music was the best.
In my humble opinion, this is THE Elton John album. Perfection ❤
"LEVON" & "TINY DANCER"
Both of this same album!!
(Loved your reactions!)

Our favorite Elton John song. Masterpiece.
Best whole album front and back still have my personal copy from the 70s...my priszed possession
My kind of music is a wall of Marshalls and a Les Paul cranked to ten screaming out power chords. Yet this is my favorite song ever.
I'd probably put Tiny Dancer at the top of my personal list of best Elton John songs. It doesn't hurt that it was part of the best scene in Almost Famous.

Live version at the Royal Albert Hall in early 70s. It's worth a listen and is on RUclips.
I'm a hard core hard rock guy, but Elton John is just pure talent. He's a very deep rabbit hole. Keep it going.
He did the music to The Lion King along with Tim Rice. That's where the Oscar came from.
But the dude has a ton of hits. Tons. And the early to mid 70s was the most epic period of his career. He got more "pop" as time went on.
