I have done a tour at their plant in North Carolina and was not sold on using it. I think their siding looks way better than Hardie for sure, but that's it. I have seen in person what happens if you DONT gap smart side. Walls with direct sun will be fucked if you dont. The planks will expand and the joints buckle if no gap is left.

Can u help me out. I'm going to do some siding and some of the videos say its a must to do a rainguard, but I notice that you are not. Does it very by the type of siding? The location? or what? Thanks
I've done Hardy Board siding, the only bad was that I had to paint it and repaint it after 2 years. I highly recommend Sherwin Williams paint btw. For those reason I will use Vinyl siding but I am curious on the Price cost on the LP siding. Not everyone has that $250sqft budget. I know it cost more but by how much? 20%, 50%, 200%?

I don't understand how a gap between two pieces of siding will acclimate and close up if there is a nail at the end of each board which, I believe, would keep the two boards from stretching to fill in that gap. Please explain.
Rob J most of the movement will be within the frame structure of the building itself, especially if it’s stick frame. The CSB siding doesn’t expand and contract as much as the wood frame. So, when I read your comment, “ ...keep the two boards from stretching to fill in that gap.” I believe you are making a logical comment but may have not considered the movement of the underlying structure.
How thick does that board is? I'm trying to use this type of Siding for my house but the one I found is 3/8 x 8 x 12. Is what they have. Is it a good one or should it be thicker?
I thought LP explicitly states u can’t just pull a piece of the siding off and re-mail it, I was going to do that but was informed u can’t do that because it will void the warranty. Also I thought on your cut edges only have to paint the cut end but also have to apply it several inches up the back of the siding as well?
So is this product the same composition as LP CanExel Composition siding who’s wood fibers are completely coated with industrial-grade resin binders and special water-resistant waxes ?
You would think LP would sell a corner piece that butts up to the wall so it keeps you long runs at the exact spacing. It could also have a quad finishing piece that clips onto the top then you only have to carry one of those gauge sticks to keep the correct spacing in centre joins it could also have build in weep holes for drainage.....
After using lp siding those butt joints never close, I highly recommend using the h- clips for butt joints. And no matter what the caulking says always tool your caulking it looks a lot better than a bead!
The most efficient way to install lp lap siding is to make a story pole and mark every corner of the building then snap lines before the windows and doors are set.
The special screws are made for the PVC : It's very pro . and ya get the rubber mallet hole fillers, nice and if you can get them in correctly it's covered with warranty. PVC and screws both.
