- Some good, bad and ugly parts of DIY aquarium building.. Telling what has recently been done and showing how things look in real time. What works and what doesn't. Also, the Wife's Christmas present.
I always appreciate an aquarium big enough to climb into! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing some Cichlids in there soon!
Attention to detail, Sir. Keep up the good work.
Take care, Sir. 👍🙂👍❤️
Looks fine to me. It's going to look great when stocked.
Thanks.. Im gonna do all the little details to this one.. I wanta be proud of it.. About 6 weeks from finish..
It’s definitely coming along now.
Cool little Honda!
Awesome!!!
Love your builds
Thanks.. The tank is maturing nicely and algae is starting to give it the natural glow
Nice. Happy New Year.
Fantastic
Is it fiberglass reinforced or just paint with water proofing? Nice tank!
Thanks.. Its a very exact fit build, thats glued and screwed and sanded. A 6-7 coating of pond armor. It becomes an unbelievably tough and waterproof membrane. Roughly the thickness of a credit card. I tested a trim piece with 2 coating and a hammer, hitting screwdriver. didnt even make a dent.
Nice
How far does the pond armour go? Like is there a square footage? I know you have to put multiple coats on.
Hello. Yes, the kit tells how much coverage at said thickness. I like 2-3 extra layers and extra for touch up.. I actually experimented with 1st kit, many years ago. I laid 1 heavy coat on an unprepped plywood board. 8 inch x 8 inch. I let it cure for 24 hours and man was that tough. A screwdriver and hammer could barely dent it. I think it wouldve held water like that, just fine. Im just a 6 coating kinda guy.
@@FreeSwimmer oh okay awesome I didn't see it before. And that's great, thank you so much and especially thanks for sharing these vids!
What silicon did you use or what would you recommend please let me know
it was GE 1 Silicone 100% Silicone . 100% waterproof.. Ive used it in all of my builds and reseals. Works fine for me.. There are a few others, however be sure its fish and livestock safe.
Does it have other color than black?
If you are speaking of Pond Armor, yes, there are many colors. I use black on back and sides and tan on bottom.
What thickness is your glass and measurements of the glass
Hello. Its 13ml thick, float glass w/beveled edges. Its 8ft wide x 2ft high.
Thank you I just unsure what glass or size just in beginning planning stage researching info thank you
Could I get the full measurements of your tank???
What was the coast on that aquarium build? I’d appreciate it
I will do a cost breakdown asap. Tank and Stand. There are so many little costs, like pumps and lights and heaters and filter media and plumbing and glass tops and power strips. These are all needed for any aquarium, so I will detail the build costs..
@@FreeSwimmer alright thanks
Have you got rid of the big tank ?
No sir. A couple months back, I made a decision to reduce energy costs with the 1210g system and downsized the maintank by over half to 450g.. I have smaller return pump and less lights and waterchanges are only 100g every 2 weeks now. Still using 210g sump and all is well. Thanks for asking. I had this glass in spare room and decided to build the 300g to go back in dining room with South and Central that are more aggressive.. p.s. I surely like your Cubans.
@@FreeSwimmer thanks merry Christmas to you 🎉
maybe silicon if you use poliurentan ....
Thanks for dropp'n by. I have had great reliability with the pond armor and silicone applications. I have 1 build approaching 8 years of service flawlessly. I believe it will easily perform another 30+ years. I say 30 years, because I might retire from fishkeeping by then ?
