@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics 2!!! Dude thats toooo much, you can’t put anything in that tiny tank😠 Hahaha nooo but this was an amazing project, I wanna do the same😍
Nice job buddy I have been watching this build since the beginning. I am a union carpenter of 20 years it just goes to show you anything you put your mind to as possible once again good job
Nice work mate, amazing that it only cost $2,500, I couldn't even begin to imagine how much it would cost if you got someone to build it, would have to be in $20,000's with the amount of labor required at the very minimum. looking forward to seeing the sump video
@@MultiTankAddiction i know I’ll have one before too much longer. Just got to remodel the kitchen first for the wife. I’m ready to see yours being built.
Thanks. I was hoping for 5 yrs. Going on 2 yrs now and although it hasn't leaked, it does need work. I plan to break it down and make some improvements that will hopefully make it last 10yrs
I hope you'll incorporate pothos or some floating plants into your filtration system to help get rid of nitrates and phosphates so that you can reduce water changes and save on your water bills. I'm so looking forward to seeing you fill up and stocking that beast!
just remember update us what time on saturday... im gonna lock my time for the youtube live (time zone sucks)... is a must to watch... and also to learn from you...
Good job, one of the best videos about the construction of a plywood aquarium. What interests me is the size of the glass windows: the thickness you said in the video, but I am interested in the dimensions of the sides because I plan to make a similar one (maybe a little smaller by 500 gallons) and the big problem for me is the price of the glass that was recommended to me by specialists (trilaminate from 12 mm sheets with two from tempered sheets) the price is exorbitant and if you can save something of that amount why not
There are a lot of forum discussions on this topic on Facebook. Mostly dependent on how tall the build will be. 1/2" tempered is fine for most builds as long as you're not exposing it to more than 30" height of water. It's hard to type it all and explain but this tank was too tall I had to use 3/4" (19mm)
Well done buddy get a live stream going with the fill up you have done well buddy I keep trying to get my friend to build one in his garage like yours I love the shape and I think you should be proud of what you have accomplished well done you 😀
I always dreamed of having two tanks, even bigger than that, one with 3-4 full size Muskies and the other, a salt tank, with 3-4 full size Great Barracuda.
Hey when you go live be sure to post in the community Tab and let everybody know when you're going to go live in advance that way we can join you I wouldn't miss it I have questions
Absolutely awesome! Great video and editing. I was noticing the 2 windows behind the tank up high, any way of building small filtration room outside and coming thru the wall into top of tank? Just an idea, never know. Tank that size is going to need some serious filtration, and with the new room, you'll have room....lol. Be sure to take a look at the multi-chamber system I have going on for the 1000 gallon in my build-out. Part 16 just released.
Yes bro I was originally going to go out the window into the ground and then up into a separate shed for filtration but I started worried about a power outage in the winter and problems heating it. Even with serious insulation im worried its not going to be efficient. Really good idea and apparently great minds think alike my friend! Its not out of the question still but looking for an easier way. I just watched the rescue video bro!
I take it you won't be aquascaping this thing. Amazing piece of work and art. I've seen some pretty cool DIY tanks but this takes it up a notch or 1000.
I was really hoping to see it finished with fish in it all that suspense to the end for nothing. Awesome tank I can't wait to see it when you have the fish the pumps installed and done
So I want to learn to professional make acrylic/glass aquariums from scratch but dont have a clue.is there a book, class or sometype of website that can teach me this???
Nice build my tank I’m upgrading to is a 1800 or so gallon Is that acrylic or glass panels ? My current tank i built is glass and most likely going with glass on my upgrade because it’s easier to seal. If it’s acrylic how you end up sealing it in the end ? If it’s glass what thickness you went with ?
Hey man in this video I did a cost break down I guess you didn't watch it all and if u search my channel I did another video on how much they cost to build.
Is there a specific resin that is safe to use with the fiber glass as far as the fish are concerned? And what did you paint over it with? Trying to build my own and want to be as safe for the fish as possible
@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics that 4" at the perimeter, who know what in the middle. Is it attached to the exterior wall block or just poured to it. Is there any pipes running through it. What size is the rebar. How much stone and size is underneath. Do you have a perimeter drain or a sump pump? I ask because I used to build homes and they cut corners where ever it's not seen. Standard concrete is 3000psi. with rebar. My 150gal. cracked the floor of my apartment the second day it was filled and dropped 1". You said your weakest point was the glass, that floor shifts and it's gone. It does look great, saw the other videos. Did a 12' octagonal, 16' tall on 4' or concrete with 1" rebar wesh under it. Left it cure for 3 months before construction.
If your 150 broke the floor you've got big issues dude. You shouldn't even have a family gathering lol. Probably an older house or has some type of drainage issues. That's not a lot of weight from a 150. I don't know the exact specs of how the house was built but it's fairly new construction. The weight is distributed over 60sf on the 1100 and approximately 70sf for the 1500. Its really not that much weight when u break it down. Even if they cut corners I had no doubt that it would be fine. We even had a decent size earthquake recently without any problems.
This will sound crazy but I need one of those in my basement...take out the carpet and put down plank flooring and turn on the lights in the morning when I do yoga down there and be able to look over and hundreds of fish living their best(in captivity) lives!
So are you going to do water changes on the other tanks to help fill this one up to kickstart it with some bacteria? Good luck with it, may it be awesome and not leak/break. :)
Bro this turned out awesome, you're inspiring me to do a build now 💪🏻

You know it Scott!!
How did you determine the thickness of the glass?
Yes mate good idea with the live, I'll be there
Sounds great Mike let's do this
How did you spec. the concrete to see if it would support that weight first?
Average basement floor is 4" thick concrete. Per lb psf this is nothing compared to what it can hold
@@OffTheDeepEndAquatics that 4" at the perimeter, who know what in the middle. Is it attached to the exterior wall block or just poured to it. Is there any pipes running through it. @@OffTheDeepEndAquatics moved it to the exterior wall of the apartment. Think they were built in the late 50s. Working ok now.
Think of it this way even if I over estimate the tank weight filled with water its still not even 220lbs psf. That's nothing.
I would love to build a huge tank, but am not sure how much weight my floor can support.
