What a fantastic video! Rudi makes it look so easy. Anyone that's taken a stab at siliconing a tank together can attest as to the art and skill needed to create functional and clean seams. Love the content my friend!
I have never seen a bulkhead installation like that but its the best one I have ever seen. But it would make transporting an assembled tank much more complex.
Great 👍 video Tobias, not often do you see a tank being siliconed together, never mind drilling holes in the floor for to connect to the sump, amazing 😉 look 👀 forward to future updates. 👍🏴
@@powerfool650 Maybe true for smaller tanks but with large tanks like these that have thick glass sides the weight of the panes is too great to place them safely on top op the bottom.
@@martijnvanbeek4387 my 215 gallon was@ built at the factory sides on top of the bottom. It was six feet long, 2 feet wide, and 28 inches tall, 1/2 inch thick glass.

Awesome video! Planning on building something similar myself (~8'). I get the concept of using 2 sections of glass for the floating base. But, I'd rather have a double thickness base myself, so I think I'll have a bottom layer in 2 sections and an upper layer in 3 sections. Hopefully, that'll help add a little flex/shock-absorption if it's required... I just wondered about what type of bracing you added afterwards? And did you brace the bottom of the tank too? Many Thanks!
Isn't it worth making a V shaped jig (like a saw horse) to hold the glass sides.? When you place the glass in the V jig they should sit together in the bottom of the V without you holding them until they are set.glued. If you make the jig V more than 90degs you can shim up the glass plates until they are perfectly 90 degs. this seems a better technique esp if you are on your own.
I have a question, why did he use two panels for the bottom of the aquarium? Creating a seam in the center... is this considered a false bottom and then another sheet of glass the entire length of the aquarium is added on top? I know ELOS aquariums are double glazed/bottom sheets of glass.
I have to ask Rudi again but I think the tank has much more stability this way. For aquariums over a certain size, this is often done to prevent the weight from breaking the glass.
Hi bro. Very good job. I wanted to ask you what is the type of silicon sealant (black coloured one) you use for this type of big tanks. I ask this because i have a similar big tank in my home which is right now leaking from the bottom panels. Presently the tank can hold only half the tank. if i make it full, it starts to leak. The tank have a height of 4-5 feer approx. what you recommend. Thanks in advance.
exactly what im about to go through. sadly having to take down my current 3yo reef 150g dt and move half way across the world to setup a 500g dt. Its hard letting go all my prized coral and fish. damn hard.... :-(
I was surprised seeing the side glasses rest on the base and the side panels siliconed the from their sides. But I guess it makes sense since with the water pressure there're less shearing forces if the sides were attached on top of the bottom glass.
The bottom glass was installed after the rear glass and 1 end was installed. The sides and end glass where not sitting on the base, the base glass was installed inside the 4 glass walls

hi. i live in germany and get a tank from a friend that i need to take apart in order to transport it. how could i contact Rudi to see if he could help me reseal it. thx
Tobias, your friend Rudi did an excellent job in glueing that tank. He was methodical and it shows by the glue joints.
He is a real pro.Incredible craftsmanship it's a joy watching him work.
Really awesome build. Looking forward to the rest of this series
Love the details you showed during the build as not many videos do, great tank!
Thank you so much Scott! :D

Thank you so much! :D
Great insight into how a large tank is made!
Much different content than usual, refreshing to say the least :)
Yess thank you!
That was pretty cool to watch. Always amazes me that a little silicone has enough strength to hold all that glass, let alone water together.
Thank you so much! Unbelievable isn't it? :D
Rudi is a master craftsman. Fantastic video, thank you.
Thank you so much and yes he is haha
Very cool. Would have been interesting to have a closer look on the gluing process.
Can’t wait to see the plumbing and filling 👍
Nice Pete! Thank you so much!
This is one masterclass😳😍 cant wait to see more!!
Thank you so much for your feedback Armin! :D
It is nice to see carftman at work that he loves to do keep it up 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much for that!
Wow! Great work! Love the channel! Cheers from San Diego, California! 😎
Awesome! Thank you so much and much love to California from the cold Germany! :D

Than you so much! And yes transporting a tank like that is not that easy haha
Sure would love to see more on the sump!
Yes gonna create a second video of that tank when everything is ready ;)
Excellent work performed. I like it very much.
Thank you so much!

Great job Tobi. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much!! :D
Great Content as usual Tobi!
Thank you so much!
Always enjoy and learning how to.
Nice! Thank you so much!
Did you use a brace? And was the construction seal the same silicon as the internal seal?
great, excelent job
Very interesting assamble 😃👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Super interessant mal zu sehen. Ich wünschte, ich würde mich sowas auch mal trauen.
Awesome video, how the top part is holding together? Is any frame is suppose to be used ?
What is the brand name of the silicone being used
Why is the bottom made of two parts? Did you add a small piece of glass at the bottom where the two sides meet?
I have the same question
@@raveensm same, never seen that before.
Me too! Around here the bottom is first and the sides sit on top.

Very nice! Question, why 2 pieces for the base piece of glass?
This reduces the pressure on the pannel and maximises the flexibility :)

I have a 12 foot long aquarium with 1 inch thickness. It stood for yrs without any problems.
Can you tell me what type of silicone he was using and does it come into clear?
What silicone you used here
Great video and nice work. Looking forward to the next video. How are the bottom panes of glass bridged together?
Thank you so much Senan! Rudi also glued the bottom panes together but without a bridge :)
great..!

Hello Brother why bottom 2 glass joint...any reason?
What were name of bricks please? do you cement together?
What silicone was used?
yes!
Rudi is a boss, does he have a youtube channel where we can follow his amazing work💪🏾🙏🏽
Haha no he has not :D But if you want to I can create some more videos together with him ;)
Why was the bottom glass in 2 pieces and why you do not put a double floor??

That was impressive to see the tank getting glued together. Does it get braced at all while curing? Looking forward to seeing more on this build.

I want to do this !!
Do you know what brand is the silicone that he uses?
I don’t want to use the wrong one and make a big mess in the apartment 😂
why the double bottom panels of glass?
How about something to hold the tank together in the middle so it doesn't bulge and crack+
Do you have the next video of this tank?
This was great 👍 please give us a link to the exact silicone that Rudi uses
I have to ask him! :)
Did you ever find out the exact silicone used?
Whacker silicone
👍👍
👍👍
👍
✌🏼🇧🇷
Why two bottom glass, how it will effect the strength then a single piece, please explain???
Because the tank has much more stability this way :) There is a danger that the glas breaks if the whole tank stands only on one glas piece :)
😱😱😱😍😍😍👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I will try to make an aquarium 😉.
Is it a rimless tank?
No, thank you for that question! The glued the frame after the whole tank was glued.
My I know the type of silicon you use ?
why this video is so small ? .... loved it
