    My cockatiel is 15 years old and the only word he's learned, despite my huge effort, is "no", which he repeats when he's hungry (or wants some of my food). But he's a fantastic whistler and can copy my laugh. I love him to bits.

    I studied the information on how to teach parrots to talk, but I didn't have the patience to follow these tips (repeat one word for thirty minutes, every day).
    And I decided that the best thing I could do was to talk to him. As with a person. Entering the room, I said hello to him, when he flew to me, I asked how he was doing, always addressed him by name. etc. A month later, I heard that he was making strange noises. And at that moment, I intuitively began to repeat the word hello to him. Voila! He spoke.
    And after that he began to learn new words faster and faster. A new day is a new word (sometimes a couple of days). I admire the intelligence of birds, although their empathy is a subject of even greater admiration.
    Thank you for the information you share!❤

      Thats amazing! Yes I dont like that 30min thing. Imagine someone saying hello to you for 30min straight 😭 id lose my mind! Im happy you used the other method and saw results ☺️ the association is incredible too!

      Yea I also tried to teach Bruno by repeating this word I wanted to teach him, but we both got bored by that very quickly :D When you just talk to them, they start to pick up some words and sounds like Bruno picking up my UPS battery backup loud beeeep sound, he now associate that sound with every machine in the house :D And he beeps like a crazy when it took me to long to turn that UPS on. He also loves vacuum cleaner sound and coffee grinder sound and mimics grinder;s sound when you stop it, it makes that harsh, loud noise when stopping, and Bruno love it.

      You could play a video saying a word or phrase on a phone and leaving it near your bird on repeat too!

    Learning by association is the best method. When I tried just repeating word, Bruno lost interest in very short time, when he actually was able to learn something with it, he started to pick up words and noises. Now he is 2 years old and can say " good, shoo, kiss, can kinda say his name (when i say bruno he say uno :D or something like that), when I say "not good!" he say "good!" :D , but for now those are the words he know, now when it comes to sounds, that is totaly different story. he can whistle that well known part of Queen of the night aria, can whistle "If You Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands" but instead of clapping he makes perfect number of kiss sounds or klicks kinda hard to describe, he can perfectly whistle for a dog, to the point that my dog comes unsure what happened. Bruno can also imitate water sound, car alarm, dog ball squeaking, cabinet door squeaking, knocking, hawk noise, UPS battery backup turning on sound, laughter, cat meow and more. Buuut even if he wouldn't do all of that he would still be very amazing, him being such talented boy is just a bonus.

      @@mimisbirdhouse But luza can talk way better than he can :D They all have their talents. Also I have a question, does Luza or maybe Kiwi was doing that. Bruno has a days - or few days in a row - hen he is soo, so angry at my hands or one hand that he tries to kill them, he is biting like a crazy. Then fe hours ago it is 100 % fine. I assume it is quaker parrot thing but wanted to ask.

    I tried to teach my bird I’ll be right back to let her know when I’m only leaving the room for a minute at most….the only thing I taught her was to start flying out of the room when I look at her and say I’ll

      Ahaha 😂 this happened to me when I taught Luza bye bye. I started giving her her absolutely favourite treats and would say bye bye and it would keep her busy to let me leave. Slowly she understood and now when i say bye bye she just says bye bye and lets me leave

    Do you think it is easier to own and maintain a bird or a 200 gallon fish tank??

    • @mimisbirdhouse
      @mimisbirdhouse  Год назад +1

      The fishes for sure. Birds are THE hardest pet to own.

    What happens if you just play what you want the parrots to say on repeat 24/7? Will the parrots learn to talk that way?

    • @mimisbirdhouse
      @mimisbirdhouse  Год назад

      That would torment the parrot that it would be an anxiety response. Please please dont do that. Theres no guarantee it would learn it. Please think about how you would feel listening to something on repeat 24/7
