If you are looking for a good and beautiful Honda CX 500 Cafe Racer, but without major changes on the rear of the frame, this video will be perfect for you.
This project made me realize, that there's a subtle thing, that makes a huge difference in this model.
It was built by "Classic Way Atelier", in Portugal.

I don't even ride motorcycles and I find that Honda just beautiful. That example has done, what no other motorcycle has done, inspired me to want to learn how to ride.

CX500 was my first street bike. Loved it. It had cam chain tensioner problems, but was fun to ride. Water cooled, shaft drive was considered exotic at the time.

Just the way it has to be, no exagerations.. just perfection
I really love the motor on the CX500, Especially when it's painted all black with some color on the head.
I think most of us do.
You have to give it to them, it is a compact complete power unit. I have to admit I am geeking out this was one of my favorite bikes it is a very good design. I do wish it was a ubber rare 650T though trick out the cylinder heads with fire rings, oh for the want of a three valve head here.
doing away with the air box and side covers was a nice touch I thought.
I do wonder where they are hiding the battery. My buddy frakenferderd his CX with a GL mono shock. He did a super nice job on it. Well in all honesty he had to after the job he did on it and himself. REMEMBER watch for the changes yeash I'd rather have seen those Olin dampeners on it.

but now considering this Suzuki front fork assembly !
Much less expensive, and relatively available !

Great cafe bike and video. One of a kind. I have also noticed, or rather did not :), the exhausts. Very well hidden, following the line of the frame and painted black. Magnificent design...

Wow beautiful.... bike's good too
I owned one back in '82 and it's a great handling, and well balanced bike: a good compromise between a street racer and a mountain scrambler. Very light as is, the design using the engine as a frame member was quite innovative for it's day not to mention it being water cooled and shaft drive. The only drawback was the tendency of the engine to torque the bike left and right depending on throttling up or down. For that reason I wouldn't recommend it as a serious racing bike.
This is a good looking makeover, but I'm not a fan of bare rear tires with no fender, nor of an inadequate front fender. I like to able to ride in the rain when I get caught in it without the tires soaking me with water coming off the street. Looking good is one thing, but having a bike you're afraid to get caught in the rain on is a deal breaker for me.
I will make note however that this bike fits the true cafe' racer spirit: notice the foot pegs for the passenger. To me a cafe' racer is a bike you jump on with your "bird" behind you and race to the next cafe'. Not having a girl on the bike with you DISQUALIFIES YOU.

I rode a cx500 custom from late 70’s to mid 80’ s , loved that bike. Now I ride a BMW, would love to build a cx500 inspired by this project. Superb styling and workmanship, congrats !

Agora você tocou num ponto importante no design de uma moto: A robustez das suspensões. Particularmente o conjunto suspensão-freio-roda, quanto mais imponente melhor, parece transparecer a "capacidade de briga" da moto rsrs.. nesse ponto, o motor em V transversal da CX 500 ajuda na sensação de robustez também.
Por necessidade, minha atual moto é uma big trail, mas em 2008 quando comprei minha primeira moto grande, foi esse fator que me levou optar pela CB 1300 e não pela Bandit, que era a opção mais em conta.. simplesmente ao ver os enormes amortecedores, foi paixão instantânea rs..
Isso talvez explica o fato de gostarmos dos mais variados designs de motos quando se tem o conjunto dianteiro e traseiro Ohlins, e um exemplo é a Thruxton 1200 R.
E explica também o fato de eu ter gostado muito mais desse projeto do que a Twister da Wena Customs, que é muito mais exclusiva, exótica e cara, apresentada por você no começo do ano. Esse farol também é um show a parte e gostaria de dar os parabéns ao pessoal da Classic Way Atelier pelo bom gosto em tudo nessa moto.

Like you, I saw this bike about a month ago when that fine lady caught my eye :). The pictures don't seem to do the it justice for once, and the live action shots seem to bring out more of the bike. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

Sure is.. . . a beautiful bike. I owned A CX 500, back in the day, and thought it was a pig. Very heavy bike, but surprisingly punchy despite the weight. A good stable touring bike.
My thoughts exactly. Still reckon it was a slug though. Fuel capacity/consumption too, was an issue for me.

Nice bike. Such a great variety with this bike. This one looks so much more powerful (Muscle motorcycle) than the Honda CX 500 by Auto Fabrica, which has a lighter look. Personally, I prefer what Auto Fabrica did with this bike. But that´s just me.

Não sabia que em Portugal se fazia estes projetos desta qualidade! Dá-me vontade trocar a minha Yamaha MT09 por uma XSR900 e transformá-la num autêntico cafe racer :) Parabéns!
Curiosamente, na próxima sexta vou publicar um video com uma XSR900. Sim, Portugal é até um daqueles pequeníssimos(Em tamanho claro) Países que sobressai bastante no que diz respeito a Cafe Racers. Tente procurar no Google por Ton-up garage e por Itrocks Bikes, Capêlos Garage. Vai ver que também vai gostar, embora existam mais cá em Portugal. :) Um abraço.

mystic1754, amongst other stuff I've had a number of these through out the years and I've never had a real problem with any of them, and I've ridden them just as hard as everything else I've owned, like my hair was on fire. Not the best bike in the world, and certainly not the fastest, but certainly not a death trap.

They should have used a Honda CX 500 like this one (they would have needed 2) in The Girl with Dragon Tatoo movie, instead of CB350 twin.

I know it's one of the stock tanks, but it's awful compared to the C-type. I'm pretty sure a vote would be about 95% for the C tank.

I am not sure, but i believe it is a 140. But i know that you can fit a rear tire up to 15cm wide. Cheers.
