I love it. Clear instruction and love you played part of it first so the advancing beginner can tell right away if they're capable. Always liked this tune.
I remember watching this when I started playing like a year ago and thought I'd never be able to play something like this. Just came back to it and picked it up in minutes. Thanks!
Life goes on long after the thrill of livin’ is gone
you prolly dont care but if you're bored like me atm then you can stream all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my gf recently =)
@Maximilian Cassius yup, I've been watching on instaflixxer for since november myself :)
Funny how people are complaining about the way you taught this. If you really want to learn it you'll take the time to figure it out. Great video, thanks for taking the time brother!
+Carlos Maradiaga Ha! Boy don't I know it. People always are gonna be complainin', I just hope that they can take something from my lessons to brighten their day ;) Thanks Carlos and happy to put them out there! Keep Rockin' Brotha!
I am a new guitar player and I watch many videos from many different teachers to try to learn songs. I can tell you I think that is the best sounding guitar compared to all the other teachers. Actually, all of your audio is excellent. I worked in television for 23 years and I believe that you set the benchmark for the audio quality. Kudos.
Love it! very nice tutorial! I have started coming to you for just about everything because you lay everything out so easily, this is a super example. Play it like you have taught it, add vocals and you're done! Thank you thank you!
Thank you bro! I grew up playing so i can follow this just fine. People at the bars are going to love this one!
Great lesson man ... gonna give this a try ... you`re my new HERO
thanks for the tutorial. honestly when I play that song on the guitar I always use just the standard chords the D A & the e with standard fingering without using bars or Pinky's or anything like that. and sometimes I'll put a capo on the second fret and use the G which would be the A chord of course the D chord which would be of course like you should have without the Capo and then of course the C chord which of course would be the D when you Capo it but never have I tried it the way you showed it and I plan to get right to work on doing it the proper way because the way you showed us is exactly how John Mellencamp has actually recorded it. thanks again and like he says in the song Rock on.
Great lesson man ... gonna give this a try ... you`re my new HERO
This is so well explained, thank you very much!
Great tutorials! You are giving Marty Schwatrz a run for his money!
Just like the record NICE!!!
5 stars for this lesson! Hoping you take at look at doing Neil Diamond's Holly! Fantastic library of songs on your channel
Thanks buddy!! I’m so glad you found me. I really appreciate your comments. They keep me going and I wanna post more! Dig the screen name, one of my fav Who songs :) have a great weekend buddy!

The video and audio is meticulous. You are a gift to all that watch and follow this. Thank you.
Wow, thank you! I'm so glad you liked my video! Thanks Gary!
Awesome video bud. Thanks. That A into bar chord, slide progression is killing me.
No problem at all! Yeah its a killer. Just remember, practice it slow, get it right, then speed it up :)
Not the way I play it but it is and excellent version and I think I like it better then mine...I over complicated the chords for teaching. I like the fact that you are straight to the point and jump right into the thick of it...none of that shame less 2 to 3 minutes of explain why ...just hear it is now get to jamming. Great way to teach, good video.
If you can't learn from this young man, you might think about taking up fishing or paint by the numbers; mho.
Dude, great teaching and playing!
This is SOOO great...so very helpful 😊
This is so well explained, thank you very much!
quantiquefilms No problem! Thanks buddy! Keep Rockin'
This is so well explained, thank you very much!
your guitar looms really nice! I just want to touch it lol has that nice finih
I usually go to marty. but good job bruh.
Best lesson on this tune. Thanks again for your help
Thanks Buddy! Got more on the way!
thanks for sharing. just one kind criticism, you should really have dots on your guitar if you're going to teach beginners. I'm a novice/beginner & like your video because you play the song better than anyone else!
biggiesmalll Thanks! I agree... That Martin plays the best and I find when I use my cheaper Alvarez with the inlays, people keep asking to get the Martin back on there... ha! It's a lose-lose... I'll work it in ;)
Man, did I have it wrong. So obvious when you see it. So glad for RUclips video guitar lessons!! Thank you. : )
Good video... but you're missing some golden opportunities to teach chord inversions... for example, you refer to the "D on the 4th and 5th fret"... this is an E chord (with the root being on the B string and the 3rd (G#) being on the E string. Newbies will appreciate seeing these relationships between chords
Where is your video channel so you can show us ? He's obviously referring to D as the shape of the chord.
Don’t be a dick bro I’m not that good and would also appreciate knowing different note positions on my guitar and how they correlate, nonetheless still very good video !
hi there my friend, nice lesson i like your style. keep it up.
Thanks bryan! Glad you enjoyed it my friend :)
Great lesson, thank you!
I think yours is the first lesson I’ve seen where the low chords sound correct. Now, if you can just show us how to beat on the guitar to fill in the drum solo we’ll have it made!
Great tutorials! You are giving Marty Schwatrz a run for his money!
Thanks! That means alot
Fantastic lesson, thanks for what you do!
Awesome ! Perfect- great tutorial
Thanks Jeff!
It's about developing muscle memory... There're some "unusual" shapes in there, and the changes are quite quick... Nothing for it, but some repetitive "grunt work"! Good lesson.
This helped so much. Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks! Sounds great.
great tutorial, fun song
Thanks Bud!
Overall this is a good, valuable lesson...but one little correction if you don't mind...the lyric goes "Long after the THRILL is gone". It sounds like you're saying trill.
He's probably Irish :P
My all-time favorite john mellencamp song
Great lesson! What model guitar are you using in this video? It sounds great!
Very nice lesson. On the quick mutes you're using, are they right or left hand mutes?
Excellent...Great job...Thank you.
Thanks John! Keep watching my friend, any requests?
your guitar looms really nice! I just want to touch it lol has that nice finih
finish
Good lesson
Yes. You said trill. Hello from CA.
Nice lesson.. Thank you..
Pre chorus(?) = Bridge...
Great lesson. Don't forget the intro if you have an electric:
Play first position A, E , E raise 3rd, pull off raised 3rd, D....then the single note D, (da da) while playing the E chord , you don't really want to hear the fifth normally fingered , so mute it or don't even finger string 5.
There are 3 or four cool ways to do this intro , this is
the easiest way, not quite the coolest but ok considering difficulty levels.
Geee Wzzz Thanks Geee Wzzzz! Gld you liked it and thanks for checkin' it out. I got more to come so keep watching Partna! Thanks
That was a TRILLING lesson! Just kidding, man. Well done. 👏
Great lesson! I like how you broke it down and I am going to add this to my repertoire of songs.
Just like the record NICE!!!

Can't believe your comment is the first mention of this!
"...Long after the THRILL of living is done..."
Otherwise a very thorough and accurate tutorial. I thought that it catered to both beginners and the more experienced ( with the help of fast forward )
Any chance on some Jack Johnson tunes? i.e.Better Together, Bubble Toes?
Thanx. Kinda hard to figure out by myself.
Happy to help ya Ronald!
Awesome mate.. don't listen to the haters.. this is an advanced lesson, so I picked it up really quick. Beginners will hate. They should go play Lego instead.
Lol, Thanks buddy, I appreciate the props :) I'm glad you liked my lesson and plz checkout my other lessons as well
so you say beginners should play lego? i guess you were never a beginner,, glad you are not the teacher
David Adkins No beginners should search "Jack and Diane EASY VERSION!" rather than come to this well put together video and HATE ON IT!!!!! Once they've master the basics, then come back. Whilst they play lego.. Lego is fun for all ages.
David Adkins No, you should learn chords so your fingers are used to playing and you don't sound asinine when you say that this isn't well explained due to being a beginner
We were beginners, but knew enough not to do this song before you understood what was going on. You can actually play A E D on this song. (Mellencamp could do TONS with just 3 chords). This is a more advanced version.... And more correct compared to the recording.
Good lesson but I wish you instructors would call the strings by number one through six and not by letter. Because it’s more thinking involved when you have to think about the strings when you called them by letter instead of numbers
Here is another instruction on how to play it. ruclips.net/video/-yck4ZOIbAs/видео.html
Ya I seen alot of ur lessons...I was gonna pass on ya lol but honestly this one's fairly accurate .
It's hard to find good lessons bud...its frustrating to take time to learn them only to find out...it ain't....so thanks I mean no offense...just sayin
I hit like btw
I usually go to marty. but good job bruh.
+Tizzle Tee Ah... My arch nemesis ;) Ha, Its all good, who cares who you go to as long as you can learn it the way you want ;)
Trill of living? You mean thrill, maybe?
yeah, that made me cringe xp
Good thing I didn't come here to learn the lyrics lol. Still a good instructional vid for the guitar part.
Use a guitar with fret markers
my guitar and drum teacher is the former drummer of John meloncamp
jedimaster jesse Which drummer. Who is he ?
I hear ya...slowing it down is diff.
How about if you show a lesson next time have your guitar with the dots. Just saying for people in RUclips land
GUITARMADEEZ.COM READ THS!!!!!!!!!!!! this was cool! i was always getting on you tube for this lesson id like to learn cocaine by Eirc Clapton!! Throw up another great teachable video.Im a beginner and i have played the song for more experienced friends and family, a lot of people have comment on how well the cords were placed throughout the song and i was able to show how you demonstrated them and have a great time. i have already subscribed you. Im a fan trying to learn. thanks for your time.
Someone stole your fret dots!
shoulda showed the order.. no1 does and it would save ppl so much Time ..
Without fail most guys posting these spend 20 minutes describing strokes only learned by hearing and playing. Stop over thinking it.
When you teach people to play don't use a guitar with no frets
Yeah. I thought the same thing. I know you meant fret markings instead of frets.
You need to learn it before trying to teach it.
MegaGuitarpicker He knows it just fine. Sometimes it's hard to teach something you naturally do. Tip for you: Don't be so quick to criticize people who are just trying to help. He's doing a FREE video on RUclips to help people learn their instrument. That's a lot better than trolling comments and complaining for no reason. In short: Shut up.
Trill?? It's "Long after the THRILL is gone" Good lesson though!
Thanks Jeff!!! Gotta love cougars... I mean John Cougar Mellencamp... What'd you think I meant?... ;)
I wanted to learn this song but I couldn't see your fat fingers for all the ad's popping up. Sorry can't say if it's good or not. Went to other video's.
For cryin out loud dude just play the whole song all the way thru, you over explain, it makes it harder than it should be to follow
John said he hated this song...😂😂⚓️🇺🇸
if i had a dollar for every time you said ok or alright
LOL
Really great tutorial. TY
Thank you so much!
