    6:00 this is FACTS. I've seen TikTokers have 100's of thousands of followers and come to youtube and barely crack 100 views per video. As well as them not be able to sell 30 t-shirts to 100,000 fans. TikTok (to me) is easy to go viral but tough to build an audience. I've also seen a youtuber with 1000 subscribers sell 200 Tshirts every time they drop something. I just think youtube is easier and more relatable when building a brand.

    so refreshing to hear this from someone like you, the other danger of shorts is that it is super easy to get views on shorts, all you have to do is get a popular thing that is already made and modify it a bit, anyone can do it! i think that thats what youtube wants, GET RID OF CREATORS, commoditize the thing, everyone is equal no one is famous, no one makes money, but THATS A HUGE MISTAKE RUclips! you will lose your creators, im already thinking of doing more amazon and fb than youtube.

    Thanks for sharing your insight. The reality is, shorts are not for every RUclips creator. My channel is about real estate and is meant to inform. Therefore, it would be very difficult for me to share any meaningful information in 1 minute or less. So, just as it is important to identify the best niche for you, as a creator , you also need to decide on the best video form, long or short for your channel, especially for the channel's long term growth . Also, if Ad Sense revenue is important to you, I think it is a no brainer that long form videos should be your choice.

    This happened to me. I had a video go viral in Turkey, Syria, and Spain because, in their opinion, I had cleaned a room in the wrong order. And they thought I was a maid and worried that I wasn’t being paid well - all sorts of random things like that. Lots of engagement and they were loving all of my shorts. Then there was an earthquake. What are the odds? But they were the wrong audience anyway and messed up my longs. I’ve been trying to recover ever since. I am now shorts-shy. (My shorts are all on-topic for my channel, but they still hurt me because I was releasing too many too quickly.)

Part of me says to just upload and if people follow you great. I’m not looking for fame but I am building my channel now to have something to fall back on if something happens to my job or I retire eventually. Yes. Community is the key. Interaction is great and you need to be active in your community otherwise people will leave if they feel they are getting no value from your content.

    Back in 2021 I noticed channels that gained a ton of subscribers from shorts, wouldn't get any views on long form content. For example, the channel would have 1 million subs and only get 5K views on a 10 minute video vs 500k views on a short. So I decided that shorts weren't for me, unless I created a channel dedicated to shorts.

    Very interesting toping and great points. I used shorts in the last 20 days or so to reach 1K subscribers. It was also easy to see what topics come across well with the audience and which don't work so well. It's very true that the audience is much different from shorts vs. long-form content, but it was surprising to me to see that the same type of content did well for both content types. It's a confirmation of the type of content I need to focus on in the future. The shorts just gave me an easier way to confirm what I already saw in the analytics in the last months. :) Thanks again. I'll have to check out more of your videos for sure.

    I’ve been through this exactly as well, my main videos are long form content and I had several shorts blowing up. I loved your video. I watched the livestream you had I believe couple weeks ago about this topic. I was very much pulled into the idea of creating shorts by so many other "RUclips advisers" but I simply don't have time for those. I put out few, I didn't see anything magnificent happening in fact I feel that it is taking my time away from creating what matters on my channel... in depth search based tutorials. I see the most financial and subs growth with those. I know this video is about shorts however I feel the same way currently about "viral videos" vs "search based videos". I see a huge thing happening with my channel. If I don't create a viral video which most of my subs watch... if the video is not performing well withing 48hours, YT is suddenly pushing back my entire library... if I create a viral video which goes amazing with views, suddenly all my other videos are doing amazing... I am being pushed to a corner... either deliver what we want.... or sorry....

    I think shorts hurt my channel. I understand that the algorithm uses our personal top ten in how it promotes videos. Since shorts tend to get 3 to 5 times more views, and are grouped in the top ten with the long form, it forces the long form videos into taking a back seat to the shorts. I may be misunderstanding, but I think I'm done with them. I've even thought of 'unlisting' a few that are still in my last 10 videos.

    Yea I’ve decided to stop uploading as many shorts because it is hurting my channel as well even though they’ve brought in more views and subscribers.
    If you’re going to post shorts, make sure the reason it would go viral is also congruent with your channel’s theme.
    For example, I make travel videos but I’ve gotten half of my subscribers from posting random cliff jumping shorts. These subscribers only subscribed to me to see more Cliff jumps, so when they see that I’ve uploaded a travel video, they don’t click on it.
    When they don’t click on it, RUclips takes that as it being a not worthy video and therefore doesn’t push it out to more people. I mean, if even my own subscribers don’t watch my video, why would anyone else?
    So it may seem that since I have more subscribers that it is a good thing but it’s actually keeping my longer form videos from gaining traction.
    If you’re uploading a short, make sure that for people to get even more of that content, they need to go to your long form videos to get it. Don’t just post a random video just because it’ll go viral.
    This will make sure that your subscribers are the same people that would be interested in watching your long form content and not subscribers that subscribed for some random clip you posted.
    At the end of the day, when a piece of content goes viral and people subscribe, they are subscribing because they want to see more of that content, so always keep that in mind.

    My shorts videos are harming my channel. While some of my shorts have gone viral with millions of views, they seem to have a negative impact on the impressions of my long-format videos. After much consideration, today, I have decided to delete all of my shorts. I hope this will resolve the issue.

    So would you recommend stopping shorts and only post long form? Does it hurt the channel to do both? Does RUclips show the shorts and long form videos to the same audience?

  • @FramebyFrameFigures

    I think Shorts are a great way to market your regular videos. Kinda like advertising for yourself. That way the people who see your Shorts may like your regular videos too.

      I don't see the benefits. You would expect at least a solid % of people who arrive in the shorts to flock to long form and explore more videos. They don't. In my case and many many others, long form views actually get worse. Even with a link in the viral short to long form, I see no view increase.

    • @FramebyFrameFigures
      @FramebyFrameFigures Год назад +1

      @@DiskiDomain Interesting. I've also heard this from others. My channel is very small and overall I see an increase in the views and engagement I have been getting recently. A lot of my shorts that went "viral for me" told people to subscribe to watch my animated series when it premieres. Many of them did and my series has gained quite a bit of views so I'm hoping subscribers from shorts are part of that, even if a very small %

    Great video. We struggle with this. We try to supplement our long form with Shorts but shorts is where we actually get subs?!?! We need to better converting and creating community with our long form! Trying to get better everyday. Thanks for what you do.

    • @TheInBetweenTales
      @TheInBetweenTales 11 месяцев назад +1

      The problem with getting subs from shorts is that they have the attention-span of a gnat. So when you drop a new video, YT tests it on your subscribers. If you have a lot of Shorts subs, they aren't as into longform video or don';t watch at all, which tanks your CTR, AVD and APV metrics.
      We're a storytelling channel. Our longform viewers are typically aged 45-65. Subs that we get on Shorts are typically 18-25... We stopped making Shorts because it's adversely affecting our metrics. 📉

    I realised when I started shorts, it's skyrocketed my subs and views on shorts are also high. But since then my long form videos are harder to get views. Before then, it's not that hard to get 1k - 2k views.
    So should I delete all my shorts? Or just stop and let it be? 😅

  • @DiskiDomain
    @DiskiDomain Год назад

    Where are the heroes from a few months ago that said Shorts would bridge the gap to long form on channels? Total lies. Shorts have ruined my long format views even more now. All I find are channels with millions of shorts and views and 100k plus subs and when I look at their longer videos I see 500 views etc. If RUclips made Shorts rpm 10c it would have been worth it. But 5 million short views got me 100$, it really hurts to see an 8000% increase on my channel after 1 month and my take home is 100$. Sub numbers mean nothing liked they used to.

    Mistakes leading to engagement is the counterpart of enrage-ment leading to engagement...
    But they do not come from the same origin. One can be very constructive while the other can be very destructive.
    Looking back 25 years ago this mechanism resembles things that occurred with hypercard and subsequently wiki wiki. When you construct content that your audience adheres value to and perceives as good information then any error or mistakes weigh in much more. The more valued the content overall the more engagement you have when mistakes are made.
    Your audience becomes engaged to correct that error. Almost as if that mistake made by the content creator reflects on them. The audience finds connection with the content creator by correcting the mistake
