The police will sometimes put a chalk outline around a dead person at a crime scene. Therefore we can assume the use of "floating chalk outlines" is a metaphor for a walking dead person or "zombie." A lot of people on major anti-depressant drugs refer to the experience as feeling zombie-like. At least that is how I interpret the song.

Thank you Zayyhan for this strong reaction. The song shows a bit of Rens medical history. When he was younger he search medical help for some issues but he was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis. So he was mistreatend with wrong drugs for years. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023). And for you I wish the best. Take care. I've liked and subscibed.

Fyi, Chinchilla references Sertraline which is an antidepressant. I interpret the song to be about the user of prescription medications to manage depression or other mental health issues, and the effects they have such as numbing us to the world around us, leaving us vague chalk outlines in place of the people we should be.

I take sertraline. Like any antidepressant, it’s not a cure, it’s a tool. It pulls me far enough out of the darkest places so I can focus on bettering myself through other means… therapy, yoga, writing, whatever. But for people with an actual imbalance beyond their control, getting to those other means without some help is absolutely overwhelming.

I believe this can apply to addiction, mental illness and I think this is also about his Lyme disease. It devastates your body. Even on good days in the back of his mind he knows it will only last until the next flair up. Thankfully he is getting treatment in Canada as we speak! Much love from TX!❤

He has so much soul in his voice.
The song is about the side effects of medication and the medical institutions habitual ways of just prescribing pills for anything.
And the feeling of being a floating chalk outline when you are on these pills, neither alive nor dead.
As someone who has lived with severe depression for 37 years this cuts deep into my soul.
It is a perfect depiction of this state and the emotion or lack of emotion.
Just know that you are not alone in this feeling Miss Zayyhan Bartis, and i feel with ya, i know what it is.

Chinchilla mentions Sertraline and Serotonin which are used to treat things like depression, PTSD, OCD, panic attacks, etc… so I think the song is about having to deal with depression and being told to just take another pill and you’ll be fine, but in doing so you disappear into just a chalk outline of your real self.

He speaks of many battles this one seems to be about the battle between addiction and over prescription. Also about how some fear accepting a good thing because it will trigger a bad thing to follow & maybe guilt for not being happy when things are good. Some feel guilt and ingratitude when they know they are fortunate but can't find joy in it.

As someone who has spent years sick, bedridden for days/ weeks/ months with physical illness (but not addiction ) I find it absolutely makes sense. When you do have a day without being woken up by pain and you are actually able to get out of bed it feels like a perfect day and you want to soak it in and enjoy it, BUT you know that it may just be that day, maybe two but you don’t know when you will be once again awoken in pain and held hostage to it in that bed.❤

You made me see the song through a different angle
About numbing ones feelings, thoughts and ultimately ones Self for fear of changes
And that includes not only medical treatment side effects, which was my first interpretation, but also drug addiction and self-sabotage behaviours
It opened my eyes to realize that even though I see myself as someone who won over depression and it's been clean for more than 12 years, I'm still "scared of being ok"

Ren has such a way of focusing the spotlight on the human side of humanity. All the struggles and strife we face but hide it away because we're ashamed to let people know we're hurting and need need help. And as much as we sometimes feel alone in our battles artists like Ren, NF, Jelly Roll let us know they go through it too, we're not alone!
The lyrics for this one can be about street drugs but it's also about the antidepressants the doctors love to throw at everyone. They literally take away all emotions. Like you feel nothing. You're basically the walking dead, hence the "floating chalk outlines" you're alive, but dead inside, feeling nothing.
Ren another song with Chinchilla called, "How To Be Me" It's dedicated to one of Ren's best friends that committed suicide. The live version is the one to react to though. They filmed it on the bridge his friend jumped from and just knowing that is so heart-wrenching. But it's also destroys me that song because of the lyrics and I've lost 27 friends and family members to suicide. Starting in Junior High, through my time in the military to especially these last three years it seems every two to three months someone I love and care about has enough and they take their light from us and as they do my world gets darker.
Sorry I went on a bit of a rant.
But hey if you ever need a Ren cleansing because these 3 songs you've reacted to are pretty heavy you should check out two if his more upbeat and positive rap songs, "Power" which the lyrics aren kind of dark but the hook is sooo freaking amazing and it's a damn good positive message that one.
And the other rap one to check out which is an ode to The Beastie Boys and is upbeat and a freaking time machine to the early 90's. The song is called, "What You Want" and he raps his ass off on both songs.

I get the impression they are talking about depression in general. That could be due to addiction, but in Ren's case I don't think he's an addict, but rather he's battled with mental illness due to prolonged misdiagnosis of his lime disease. He spent 10 years physically ill, and being constantly diagnosed for psychological disorders. The treatments didn't work, because they we for problems he didn't have. Untreated lime disease can lead to psychosis and other mental illnesses. And I think he's been battling those, now that they've at least figured out the root cause of his physical illness. I may not have that exactly right, but that's my understanding. The idea of a clinical medical system that just carelessly prescribes narcotics as a cure all is a reoccurring theme in his songs.

Enjoy your authenticity and wants you to go listen to chinchillas last
    Little girl gone
And fingers the artist in me loves both versions I think the video version 1st helps you understand how amazing the live version is and that extra line she added in rehearsal before the live... And the costumes and the artistry in the video is just mind-blowing SO clever

Addiction has many faces. Depression is one. you're not alone. Wake up swinging so you can also share your story.

This song is about coming to terms with the feeling that the medicine gives you that you take to not feel the way you would feel without taking the medicine. Sometimes medicine affects people in different ways. Makes some people feel like they have no emotions at all like they’re walking around and they’re just not themselves they’re outside themselves or they feel like they’ve got a big bubble around them. They’re like the walking dead.
The sertraline and a sip of serotonin line that chinchilla starts her verse with … sertraline is Zoloft and the sip of serotonin means when you wash it down with the water. That’s what starts the serotonin released in your brain.

You won’t know if your website is useable till you post it and get the feedback. Do it now so you won’t be disappointed by “feeling” like it’s ready then getting the negativity and all that.

what a moving reaction. you are not alone in the way rens music affects people, even though my experience doesn't seem as profound as yours, it hits me. why would a 78 year old man that has had a relatively charmed life spend 5 days doing nothing but listening to ren reactions. i can't explain it. I found the first reaction to hi ren when i was doing my usual morning pentatonix search- i am a pentaholic. and stumbled on him. ptx music goes into your soul Ren;s music GOES INTO YOUR SOUL
