The stereo separation in this song is so atmospheric. Lyrics and snare front and centre, echoed whispers and bass on the left, high hats on the right... the guitar is really a number of fragments that move around, and then the toms have a slight delay so they are huge and omnipresent.
The cure recorded 3 albums in this style, dark and doomed between 1980 and 1982 check some tracks for album Faith (The drowning man, All cats are Grey, Funeral Party) or Pornography album (one hundred years, The figurehead, a strange day or Cold)
I often wondered whether Curtis was describing his own funeral in a sense. I prefer this to In A Lonely Place but both are astoundingly sad and beautiful at the same time.
@@InsignificantNick I know, I've cried to that song too many times. If you can get it where you are I'd recommend watching the film, 'Control'. Sam Riley does a great job and all the actors in the band actually leaned to play all the songs themselves.
Also I would like to see your reaction to the song Twenty For Hours by JD, it's from Closer as well, to me it's like Ian's goodbye.. very weird, once again veryy dark and really sad but well.. that's the beauty in their music, even though it's tragic, if you know what I mean
I have my vinyl sleeve of Closer NOW signed by legendary bassist Peter Hook 🪝! he also signed Transmission for me and sent me a free t-shirt too! Beautiful song off a beautiful album. C 19 - 05 - 2023
That drum riff has been rattling around in my head for 40 years
Thank you!! This album is so dark.. for sure he was already telling everyone, his lyrics.. no one took them seriously and it's such a shame :(
Passover is one of Joy Division's Best Songs.
I agree but it seems to be the most neglected of their songs which I find somewhat bizarre
Twenty four hours 🎉
All their songs are great 👍
My favorite Joy Division song. Thanks for reviewing.

Both amazing albums - I loved them!
JD is transcendental

Yes, the foreshadowing from Ian is sad as hell.

This is the most grim, bleak and depressive song ever. Good reaction!!!
I have it signed by original bassist Peter Hook!
Decades and The Eternal are bleaker.
You should react to Don't fall by The Chameleons, Be brave by The Comsat Angels and Silent Air by The Sound.

You've got all of the pronunciations right, except for Bernard Sumner (pronounced BER-nard rather than Ber-NARD).

I think he was also talking about his epilepsy, as he used to have a lot of seizures..
