Would some "expert" from Fish and Wildlife or the Department of the Interior please explain to me how being forced to wear a high tech tracking collar is allegedly supposed to benefit bears through the so called "scientific" knowledge gained from your multitudinous studies? Given the way man has degraded the environment why would we blindly trust that man's misguided tampering so far is suddenly going to do a 180 and that increasing the deployment of all manner of technology will save the day while we continue to blithely destroy everything we touch? Sounds like another scheme where the primary benefits will accrue mostly to corporate bank accounts playing ball with the government. I would like to knock the humanoid decision makers, movers and shakers upside the head and wrap tracking collars real tight around THEIR throats in the name of "following SCIENCE" so we can track their movements and behavior. See how they like it.

Rob Hallam - I was thinking the same thing! I’m sure you know that Simone has brought her babies to visit Patrick. Now THAT’S an honor!
Obviously, being so close to huge wild bears is never going to be 100 percent safe, but this is as safe as it gets in that situation. Patrick is REALLY good at empathizing with the bears. For example: when Simone visited with her babies, Patrick made sure to talk very softly, but consistently so Simone knew where he was at all times. He makes sure the bears are NEVER surprised to encounter him - even bears who know him (like Simone). Patrick knows that Simone is VERY protective of her babies, so, he made sure Simone could hear him frequently.
The amount of trust Simone has is amazing. She knows she is safe and welcome on his porch, and she ALSO knows she needs to give him a reasonable amount of space.
It is absolutely beautiful to watch the bears’ and Patrick’s friendship!

The bear came to say hi, hung out with you for a few minutes and left. What a sweet sweet bear. I think they get lonely too sometimes.

Debbie, she has already brought a set of twins to see Patrick. Black bear young often spend two summers with mom. So she could very well come next summer with two sets of twins.

Simone has excellent food hunting skills. It looks like she is ready for a long winter's nap in her den. When she dreams I think she sees your porch with a huge bird feeder full of seed just waiting for her. Happy dreams Simone!

It is amazing how an animal of that size and weight can move so elegantly and easily onto the porch, climb up and balance out its weight on the balcony...just for a quick protein snack...thank you for sharing this with us , lightens up ones mood these days 😊greetings from Germany ....where there no bears ...but as of Wednesday this week the entire country goes into full lockdown at very least until mid Jan....too many irresponsible people causing issues 😔....the government needs to intervene as our daily death toll is around 500 people a day ( not unlike some US presidents quote thousands a day..) but far far too high still 😔hope for us all that 2021 will be a healthier & happier year 🙏🏼Merry Christmas 🎅and stay safe everyone 😊

It's unintentional. Humans are a lot more picky with all that "correctness."
the Eurasian bear being re-introduced to the UK may walk on the other side. For safety at night, both should walk on the oncoming traffic shoulder. Signage has not altered behavior however.

I guess that Patrick didn't know Simone was pregnant at the time. She now has the two cubs visiting with her every day. I admire that she could be so graceful with both winter weight and pregnancy. She probably had cravings and remembered she'd never explored that bird feeder.

I just recently " found you" and do so enjoy your shares . Such beautiful creatures we have been given , and I hate that so many of our species choose to , and take an evil delight in , barbaric behavior toward them. We were all ( people and animals) given responsibilities and privileges on this Earth , no matter the Creator we acknowledge respect worthy. Our Earth and it's creatures need and must demand respect and thoughtful behavior, and far too often , we we take a neglectful, self centered, attitude towards it. Dominion to me is not spelled " right to destroy", rather " wise , healthy, respectful , intelligent , caring govern " there of.
What a privilege and delight to have these " friends" come by. They can be vicious ..... Yes,.... But in the right situation... So can I.

I live in north florida , have a lotta bears , bobcats & many other critters ❤ Its really amazing that, even though the black bears get big , they are very sure footed & agile ❤

How lovely, if I had a Bear coming to visit me I would leave it food on the table. It must be amazing to see these in real life, you are truly blessed. The only bears we have in the UK live in Zoos or the Yorkshire Wildlife Sanctuary who rescue abused caged animals from all over the World.
We were lucky when visiting Lake Cameron in Alberta a huge black bear walked or should I say ambled casually past our parked car. This was in August a few years ago, it looked so healthy we were so privileged to see that, I thought black bears were smaller but this was a bit taller than our car. Loved bearsever since😃
